21 That '70s Show That '70s Show That '70s Show is an American television period sitcom that originally aired on Fox from August 23, 1998, to May 18, 2006. The series focused on the lives of a group of teenage friends living in the fictional suburban town of Point Place, Wisconsin, from May 17, 1976, to December 31, 1979.

My All time favorite sitcom. This is one of the most underestimated tv shows around. Seasons 1-4 were the best. The cast made this series more than the decade did. I really loved this show. It was endearing, cutting edge, heartbreaking, crude and FUNNY all at the same time. Well rounded, ensemble cast, but in my opinion Topher Grace was the backbone of the seies. - danalana

You can tell a lot of heart and effort was put into the production of this show. It's a show you can watch at anytime, in any state of mind. I remember it being a popular show back in the mid 00's but not many people tend to recognize its greatness today.
The show definitely declined after Ashton Kutcher and Topher Grace left, but to me this doesn't detract from the overall quality of the 8-season run.

Deffinatly one of the most underrated sitcoms and tv shows of all time. Not just funny, but it also takes a truely great idea and writing in order to take a cast with only a couple experienced actors, and turn them all into popular icons, and actors, as well as turning the show into a show loved by mostly everyone whos ever watched it.

No black people in that whole world

22 House

The most well written show and character that I have ever seen on television! It also peeked my interest on a constant basis. The fact he is a genius among doctors means this guy is super smart. Of course the show touts him as the best diagnostician in the world, figuring out medical issues that even the best specialist can not remedy. His quips and sarcastic persona are extremely entertaining. Someone mentioned "House" was the best character ever on television. He is one of my favorites but that distinction belongs to "Archie Bunker"!

He's a terrible influence, but he's awesome. I didn't even know Laurie was British until I saw an interview on the news! Great acting by all the peeps. I feel kind of bad for Wilson, because he has to basically be House's dad or brother and monitor his actions.

Sherlock Holmes (House) reworked and expanded wonderfully. A bit of irony getting a Brit to play an American. Gotta love it. The American accent is perfect. - mgenet

23 Prison Break Prison Break Prison Break is an American television serial drama created by Paul Scheuring, that was broadcast on Fox for four seasons, from 2005 to 2009. The series revolves around two brothers.

This show is so addicting and gripping. Has me on the edge of my seat every episode. And Wentworth Miller is an absolute heartthrob

So awesome! Extremely gripping... At the end of every episode, you just have to find out what happens in the next. Once I watched this show from 10 in the night to 6 in the morning..

You can stop watching if you start one episode, really addicting and gripping, awesome, I watched all the 4 seasons in 3 weeks!

It's the best show, love you ❤ Michael Scofield, you are exceptionally talented and extremely handsome... should be in the number 1 spot

How is the greatest show ever way down here!? By the way, they finally have some funny people on now. C'mon, vote for SNL. - drpeppersnapple

People think differently about life because of this show.

funniest show ever should at least be in the top 30. how the hell is hannah montana higher than this!? - russian

Sneaking in just ahead of "Vampire Diaries"... unbelievable. Top 5 at least

V 14 Comments
25 Vampire Diaries

GOD! This show is in the 43rd place?! Doesn't make sense! Like, at all! 5 reasons The Vampire Diaries should be on the top of the list;

1. The actors and actresses are not just hot, but also talented, and funny.
Ex; Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Matt Davis, Nina Dobrev, Kat Graham,
Steven R. McQueen, Candice Accola, Zach Roerig, Sara Canning, Michael
Michael Trevino... Phew! Plus most of them are musicians!
2. They make cute and sweet couples too!
3. The most important, it gets you thrilled, curious, melts your heart
With sweet scenes, gets you grieving... I feel like it's real... When
Jenna died, it took me days to stop crying, months to think why that
Happened...
4. The plot is always interesting and surprising...
5. You can't resist vampires... Even without being compelled by them, hehe.
Werewolves melt you, too!

My favourite couples of TVD:
1. Jenna Sommers Alaric Saltzman= Sommersaltz
2. Damon Salvatore Elena Gilbert= ...more

It's too scary and has no comedy or peaceful scenes, it's nothing but violence, disturbing images and death, the disturbing images include vampires, it can scar you for life and have a negative impact on you or ANYONE who watches it, the best shows shouldn't be the ones that are dark, gory and overly-dramatic, the best shows should be the ones that have comedy, magic, a bit of suspense and a mix of adults and children as well as those that are geared towards all ages, This doesn't take the cake and this comment doesn't deserve a thumbs down when you read it.

Its the best show ever seen on tv...
Love you ian...
And also sexy car and cat makes this show a very tempting...
I'm shocked why its on 39th place it must be on first place...
Whatever for me its on always FIRST position...

Nah not bad as a teenage girl mystery/supernatural series but that's all. As you see from the comments, most watchers care about how hot the characters look and not really about the story line. I generally avoid the kind of series that hire only top model looking actors/actresses because it shows that the show is mainly about looks not content. Again, nice chick-flick show, but that's it.

Best of all

26 The Sopranos The Sopranos

This is the best show ever to grace the T.V. Screen, the fact that things like Hannah Montana and Sweet life on deck are even higher is just insulting

This is one BAD top-ten list. It's deplorable that Friends is at number two and this is 94. - Virtuoso

I was expecting this to be at least on the first page, but, 28? Really? For one of the most beloved shows of all time that gives such a detailed insight into mob life? Apparently "Doctor Who", "Spongebob Squarepants" and "Friends", 3 family friendly shows which are just there for entertainment and not for intricate story-telling, are considered better than this masterpiece.

I'm guessing that the people who vote on this list are 9 years old.

27 Modern Family Modern Family

Modern Family has been to date one of the best shows I have seen, not just based on its hilarious comedy, but also because of the characters and what they go trough together. Feel-good show.

This show is hilarious, with something for almost everybody. It won all of its Emmy's for a reason, you know. It has most (if not, all) forms of humor. All of the actors are great, even if sometimes it feels like things are over exaggerated. I love how the plot lines connect through the families. Everybody should watch this show at some point. Even you, person who scrolls down past this category. - TheWiseOne

Ahh, I love this show. It never fails to put a smile on my face. It's humorous, funny and entertaining. You become so in love with the characters, you feel like they're your second family. Got to love Modern Family.

Great Show!

28 American Dad American Dad American Dad! is an American adult animated sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt Weitzman for the Fox Broadcasting Company.

There is more characters that are funny than Family Guy also the show doesn't try so hard because they do not have to show a cringe worthy flashback every 5 seconds that is starting to become boring and not laughable.

One of the funniest animated shows of all time.

Love it, Family Guy try to hard and sometimes goes to far, but not this. Roger is the funniest character

29 Twilight Zone

X-file would have never existed without Twilight Zone. Original, allegoric, scary, and entertaining. Training ground for actors that went on to TV and movies. Rod Serling used Twilight Zone to illuminate our society; religious, political, sociological and always with a twist of irony.. - mgenet

it is unbelievable that there were 38 shows on this list and none of them was the Twilight Zone. Shame on you voters! -

This show gives me nightmares. When I was 6 years old I went on the ride for it in Disneyland. It is called "the tower of terror" It is the scariest ride off all time. I am not joking. When ever I hear the theme I literally start screaming. I don't know how good or bad the show is but listen to me right now! DO NOT GO ON THAT RIDE!

30 Futurama Futurama Futurama is an American animated science fiction sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company.

I like a couple show better, but I voted this one cause it deserves to be MUCH higher. At the very least, in the top 20.

definitely a classic that's for sure, Dr. Zoidberg and Bender are just funny as hell!

It's Geniusly written, imposibly funny, great concept art and is way better then SpongeBob, family guy, and of course the simpsons it should be 1# - nightblazer534

Must agree with nightblazer534. genius writing and just way too funny.

31 Pokemon Pokemon Pokémon, abbreviated from the Japanese title of Pocket Monsters and currently advertised in English as Pokémon: The Series, is a Japanese anime television series, which has been adapted for the international television markets.

Like it a LOT.
I don't understand the people that hate pokemon.
What is there to hate?
SERIOUSLY!
How do they think of an episode on EVERY SINGLE Pokemon?
Really good show. - 2234

Best Show on T.V. my eyes didn't want to leave the screen. Its awesome and if you never saw it what are you wating for!

Pokemon must be the bet show ever I love this show I am mostly talking about the original series because some o the new ones aren't that good like black and white though the first through dp are very well made.

Never forget why I love this show which is why I'm in part of the fandom. I am a huge Pokemon fangirl. Some of the episodes are so emotional and it brings back to my childhood memories when I first watch it when I was a kid. The battles throughout the anime are awesome. The XYZ and Sun and Moon series are personally my favorites seasons so far.

And not only that, the best Pokemon character that ever to be seen in episodes is Sawyer, who is cute, adorable and handsome! - EllyMacaroni

Dang, I'm so surprised this show isn't higher, it's got a 9.1 on imdb, and that already sets it up in the top ten shows of all time. It's a storytelling, world-building masterpiece, and it knows how to deal with heavy topics without condescending to children (like death without yelling "i'm okay! ", genocide, spirituality, and political corruption). I never laughed so much as a viewer than when Sokka got high off of cactus juice, and even thinking about "Leaves From Vine" tears me up. This show basically raised me - it wasn't the kind of show I started watching when I was bored and commercials are on, it was a show where I memorized the run schedule and tuned in/ran to the television every day with the family. The animation and atmosphere is basically Miyazaki-level (well, considering it's a running show and not a feature), with great action and great heart. And yes, I'm marathoning it right now: - keycha1n

It's hard to explain it all in one comment, but the show is well balanced in everything. Great animation, epic music, awesome actions, well-developed characters, amazing actors and actresses, et cetera. Though what's nice is the fact that the show can balance out serious moments and funny moments, and it's not at all inappropriate or so kid-friendly that it's corny. Also the show touches on concepts that most kid's shows wouldn't even think about and yet they explain it in a way that kids won't be completely bored by it. Either way everything about the show is perfect and has obvious effort and pure optimism put into it. Both adults and children can find something to enjoy in this beautiful masterpiece of a show. Avatar: The Last Airbender is a one of a kind show and honestly I don't know if anything else will ever be like it. So for me it is my favorite show of all time, for others maybe not but my experience with the show has been completely positive. Rating: Infinity points/10. - Anonymousxcxc

Being able to watch this series again and again and still loving it. Deserves to be higher up the list.

Some of the greatest and lovable characters ever, placed in a rich universe. I need to watch it every year, just to see those awesome characters again. The one responsible for their greatness is Aaron Ehasz, who was sorely missed on the uhm... 'sequel' to Avatar.

I have problems with a lot of modern television shows, they all try to be edgy, smart, unique, it's not a complete bad thing but it's easy to see and becomes ridiculous, 24 doesn't try to be any of that because it already is, how people can rate Supernatural and Vampire Diaries over this is beyond me. Maybe it's because I'm an anime fan, most things I see on T.V. , I've already seen in anime, people praise Breaking Bad and Dexter, I've already seen something similar to those shows, it's called Death Note, 24 is something special, you can't do a concept similar to that and get away with it. Game of Thrones? Seen it on Lord of the Rings. The Sopranos? Go watch the Godfather movies. Back in it's time, 24 was groundbreaking and it still is, but nowadays, people would rather watch demons and other emo or hipster stuff.

It is the best tv show I have ever seen on tv I don't think if any show can ever be better than that to me it is the most addicting because it always keeps you concentrated and the plot for saving America from the terrorist attacks is unbelievable

NOTHING SHORT OF GENIUS! Truly the best show on tele, or was. So glad it's coming back for another season. Smart move! Sutherland has such an amazing gift for making this action packed show-which is scripted and staged-look and feel so real. You love to hate some of the characters because they are so realistic, vulnerable, and relatable. Love, love, love the action sequences. Every single episode is like watching a film or riding a roller coaster. The thriller plots and larger than life action creates breath taking cliffhangers that you can barely stand but keep you watching. Like I said... BEST SHOW EVER!

My opinions tend to very closely mirror these lists, except in this case. 24 is to me, hands down the best show ever. Only rated 32 currently!

Okay what the hell? Arrow the greatest live action superhero television series ever and possibly on of the best T.V. series of all time is at 83? Come on what the hell! It deserves better each episode is intriguing and everyone on the show are awesome actors. This should at least be in the top 10.

35 Looney Tunes Looney Tunes Looney Tunes is an American animated series of comedy short films produced by Warner Bros. from 1930 to 1969 during the golden age of American animation, alongside its sister series Merrie Melodies.

Best show for all ages and it's better than shows like family guy and American dad etc. Because in those shows all they do is curse and screw around with drugs enough said.

Good clean cartoons unlike the junk they have today

It is ridiculous that Looney Tunes is number thirty-five. I mean, the best moment of my life are watching Looney Tunes! This should be in the top fifteen!

DEFINITELY MY FAVORITE SHOW OF ALL TIME GREAT CAST SUPER FUNNY AND JUST REALLY UNIQUE ITS JUST REALLY special and I don't think anything can really surpass it, It's my favorite sitcom and definitely underrated I binge watched this in just 20 days on Netflix I also think they should make a cast reunion spin off show like they did with full house.

37 The Wire The Wire

This is an outrage, it shows how dumb your average person is, I was SHOCKED when this wasn't in the top 10, then it just sort of got comical from there, SERIOUSLY! This is hands down the GREATEST thing ever put on film aside from things that record historical events like the moon landing

More people should see this series. It shows the system drug underworld that isn't even really hidden that so many people in our society bury their heads in the sand about. Each season focuses primarily on a different facet of the drug trade.
Season 1 - Streets
2 - Docks (Bulk Import)
3 - Leadership
4 - Schools
5 - Media
Each season offers its own unique perspective on the woes of society in a drug riddled, low-income, urban community that envelopes everything around it and with no end in sight. I started watching it about 6 months ago on demand and it just sucked me in and never disappointed, only leaving me wanting more, while at the same time, when I finished the series, I realized it was, as a whole show from season 1 episode 1 to the last episode of season 5, one full cycle that just keeps being repeated.

The Wire should AT LEAST be in the top 5 - aruizpr

This show deserves to be in the top 5 positions. It's a rich story with far more
realistic depictions of both sides.I was really surprised the show never won a emmy or other awards

38 Buffy the Vampire Slayer Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Absolutely Fantastic.
It's a perfect balance of comedy, adventure, romance and catharsys.
I started to watch this show when I was 12 and now, at 25 I started to watch it over again. I guess it's got a lot of facts that makes a common kid to feel it as something close to you mixed with all the things we allways dreamed about, fantasy, heroes and highschool. Lovely

By far the greatest show of all time. Doesn't get the credit it deserves because a lot of people haven't seen it because it wasn't on a big time network, they don't even consider watching it because of its name, and because the movie was not good at all. It's funny, exiting, scary, dramatic, and it's got a major life metaphor. If you haven't seen it, go to your video store and rent the first season, if you can get past the cheesiness of the first season you will fall in love with it during the second season. - james1999

This show was amazing. I don't know how this isn't at least in the top 5, but it should really be number 1. I have all of the seasons on DVD, and might even consider watching them again! I do believe that there could have been a better ending to the series however. Sometimes I would watch at least 5-6 episodes of Buffy in a row, just because I could not wait at all to see what would happen next.

NEEDS TO BE HIGHER - citizenerased
