Top 10 Most Typical Things Americans Think of When Thinking of Australia

From my experience as an American these are the things typical Americans think of when you mention Australia.
The Top Ten
1 Kangaroos The kangaroo is a marsupial from the family Macropodidae. In common use the term is used to describe the largest species from this family, especially those of the genus Macropus: the red kangaroo, antilopine kangaroo, eastern grey kangaroo, and western grey kangaroo.
2 Steve Irwin Stephen Robert "Steve" Irwin, nicknamed "The Crocodile Hunter", was an Australian wildlife expert, television personality, and conservationist.

The funny thing is he was the epitome of an Americanised Australian. The majority of us are nothing like him or Crocodile Dundee. We're mostly city or beach dwellers.

3 Koala Bears The koala is an arboreal herbivorous marsupial native to Australia. It is the only extant representative of the family Phascolarctidae and its closest living relatives are the wombats.

Why do people from the USA call a koala a bear it's not it's a marsupial

They're not bears, they're marsupials. It makes me cringe every time.

4 The Great Barrier Reef
5 Crocodiles Crocodiles (family Crocodylidae) or true crocodiles are large semiaquatic reptiles that live throughout the tropics in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australia. The term crocodile is sometimes used even more loosely to include all extant members of the order Crocodilia, which includes the alligators and caimans (family Alligatoridae), the gharial and false gharial (family Gavialidae) among other extinct taxa. ...read more.

23 Inland Taipan The Inland Taipan, is a venomous snake of the taipan genus commonly found in semi-arid regions of central east Australia. The inland taipan is not just a venomous snake it's considered the most venomous snake in the world by many people. When compared drop for drop and based on the median lethal dose value in mice, its venom is by far the most toxic of any land snake or even sea snakes. Although extremely venomous and a very capable striker, contrary to the rather aggressive nature of its relative the coastal taipan, this serpent is usually quite a shy and reclusive snake species. With its placid disposition it prefers to escape from trouble, but it will defend itself and strike if mishandled, ...read more.
24 "A Dingo Ate My Baby!"
25 Sydney Funnel-Web Spiders

I feel this is a bit specific considering most people think of large spiders in general when Australia comes to mind. That's just me though.
