1 Crimson Glory Crimson Glory is an American progressive metal band that formed in 1979 under the name Pierced Arrow.

They were the first Progressive Metal band ever and nobody cares! Astronomica is one of the best Prog albums ever! They came first, and Fates Warning and Queensryche followed them, they are basically the foundation of Progressive Metal.

One of the first prog metal bands with one of metal's greatest vocalists - Midnight (RIP)

Transcendence is still one of the most unique sounding albums in metal.

2 Voivod Voivod is a Canadian heavy metal band from Jonquière, Québec. Their musical style has changed several times since the band's origin in the early 1980s. The band's current line-up consists of Denis "Snake" Bélanger, Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain, Dominique "Rocky" Laroche and Michel "Away" Langevin.
3 The Ocean

What do you know about these guys? Being on #2 without any comment proves that they are not only underrated but also somewhat unknown commodity.
The is a collective from Germany with some of their albums simply instrumental. They already have 7 albums, but the last one is my personal favourite (the one from 2018)

These guys are way too overrated for the uninspiring and artificial music that they've produced so far. I also disagree that they are unnoticed as I keep hearing metalheads rambling on about them and their so-called greatness.

They are more unnoticed than underrated but they are great, yeah.

6 Neurosis Neurosis is a post-metal band, based in Oakland, California. They formed in 1985 as a hardcore punk band, and their sound progressed towards a doom metal style that also included influences from dark ambient and industrial music as well as incorporating elements of folk music.
7 Queensryche Queensrÿche is an American progressive heavy metal band formed in 1982 in Bellevue, Washington, out of the local band the Mob. They released their self titled EP in 1984, but didn’t gain notoriety until the release of their critically acclaimed album Operation: Mindcrime in 1988. As of now, they have one EP, and 15 studio albums.

Not really underrated. They were the Dream Theater before Dream Theater.

No, this is very well known already, In fact Queensryche is a bit overrated.

Queensryche isn't really underrated. They're quite famous like Symphony X.

8 Fates Warning Fates Warning is an American progressive metal band, formed in 1982 by vocalist John Arch, guitarists Jim Matheos and Victor Arduini, bassist Joe DiBiase, and drummer Steve Zimmerman in Hartford, Connecticut.

Underrated by popularity, but at the same time a bit overpraised by critics

Fabulous prog band. They have two albums, one of which is in my top 25 of all time.

Matt Smith is simply a genius and a true dedicated musician who is committed to giving honor, yes to God the best way he knows how, but also committed to giving honor to old school metal.
Kudos Theocracy!

They are underrated and they will be underrated for that Christian thing in their lyrics.
But they are really good and consistent, and maybe one day the quality of their music will eventually win.

While some people may be turned off by the christian themed lyrics (I don't understand why but okay) This band is not something you want to skip out on.

13 Cult of Luna Cult of Luna is a Swedish post-metal band from Umeå founded in 1998. They often perform post-metal music similar to the contemporary bands Neurosis and Isis.
