Currently active members include Anders Fridén (vocalist), Björn Gelotte (guitarist, formerly drummer), Niclas Engelin (guitarist), and Peter Iwers (bassist). Currently, they are without a drummer; their most recent one was Daniel Svensson.

3 Arch Enemy Arch Enemy is a Swedish melodic death metal band, originally a supergroup, from Halmstad, formed in 1996. Its members were in bands such as Carcass, Armageddon, Carnage, Mercyful Fate, Spiritual Beggars, and Eucharist.

They had two female and one male vocalists and for this genre this is very unique.

4 Amon Amarth Amon Amarth is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Tumba, formed in 1992. The band takes its name from the Sindarin name of Mount Doom.

They sing about vikings and aren't a Pagan or a Folk Metal band.

5 Kataklysm Kataklysm is a Canadian death metal band. They call their musical style "northern hyperblast" after an advertisement in M.E.A.T.

9 Soilwork Soilwork is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Helsingborg. They are signed to Nuclear Blast. Formed in late 1995 by Björn Strid and Peter Wichers, originally under the name Inferior Breed, the band changed their name in late 1996 to Soilwork.

Listen to their songs and you can sometimes hear the vocalist actually sing "normally".

These Canadians combined Melodic Death Metal and Technical Death Metal, which is a rare combination. Their music was called Technical Melodic Death Metal. This blend sounds awesome to me because my favorite death metal subgenre is actually Technical Death Metal.
