Top Ten Very Unlikely Ways to Die

Ever asked, “How bad can my luck get?”, well, if your demise ends up being any of these, pretty bad. Thankfully, the odds of these happening range from pretty rare to plain zero.

The Top Ten

1 Black Holes

Scary cause there is one 14 lightyears away

Black Holes are terrifying. They are some of the most massive objects in the known universe and even one the size of a planet can destroy entire star systems, and they seem to be in the center of every single galaxy. But don’t worry, the nearest black hole is 27,000 light years away. Which sounds terrifyingly close, but that means the fastest thing in our universe would take 27,000 years to get to, in other words, not in your lifetime. - Whywhat

2 Gamma Ray Burst

Gamma rays are the smallest wavelength of light known to man. But when a huge star explodes, it releases a ton of these, which makes a lot of energy. These are gamma ray bursts, the brightest events in the universe, if you were standing next to one,
1. You would die
2. You would go blind
Sounds scary, right? Well, it’s not. There are a few massive stars not way too far away from us, but now, they’re fairly stable. - Whywhat

3 Meteor Impacts

Thousands of meteors the size of dust particles hit earth every single day, note the size. Even a meteor the size of a golf ball is quite rare. And what are the odds of a meteor hitting you when most of the planet isn’t even land? I would think very low. - Whywhat

4 Firework accident

Fireworks are plain incredible things, they’re plentiful on July the 4th if you’re American, and the sight is just awe-inspiring. But they are also used by normal citizens alike, and can cause some damage, but death is super rare. In 2013, just 8 deaths occurred, although common sense can increase your chances. - Whywhat

5 Shark Attack The tiger shark is a species of requiem shark and the only extant member of the genus Galeocerdo. It is a large macropredator, capable of attaining a length over 5 m. Populations are found in many tropical and temperate waters, especially around central Pacific islands.

Sharks are some of the most feared animals in the ocean. And that really isn’t a surprise, they’re apex predators, capable of swimming much faster than Michael Phelps ever could, ripping apart seals and fish with their replaceable teeth. But humans? Nah. Sharks are also some of the most misunderstood animals in the ocean. Your odds of even being attack are low, and even then, it most likely wasn’t with malicious or predatory intent, rather, it just bites to see if you’d make a good meal. And us, having not a high enough fat content (ironically), aren’t a good meal. And even then, the odds of a fatal encounter are EVEN LOWER. Instead, you do have good reason to fear the pufferfish or box jellyfish. - Whywhat

6 Falling coconuts

Apparently, this is a real thing that actually happens, your odds are 1 in 250,000,000. Even though it’s so rare, still, people fatally wounded from falling coconuts. Actually, they kill around 150 people every single year! - Whywhat

7 Vending Machine

Most of the time, vending machines are places to get a snack or soda. But playing around with them is strongly unadvised. While it is rare, getting crushed by a vending machine does happen, but your odds are around 1 in 112 million. So unless you’re trying to win a Darwin Award, don’t tip over vending machines.

Side Note: Don’t try to win a Darwin Award (Dying in the dumbest way possible) - Whywhat

8 Lightning Bolt

€You’re more likely to be struck by lightning than”, well basically everything on this list, but it still is a rare occurrence. Even if you get hit, your most likely either temporarily burned or paralyzed. Death is quite the rare case, in fact, the record holder, Roy C. Sullivan, got struck 7 times and survived! - Whywhat

9 Terrorism

The media absolutely freaks out about terrorism, but it isn’t as terrifying as it seems, well, it is, but it’s not as common and as big of a threat as the media makes it seem. You’re far more likely to commit suicide than being killed by someone else, let alone a terrorist organization. - Whywhat

10 Scalding by Hot Water

This is by one of the more common demises on this list of unlikely deaths, wether it be via appliances at home or geysers at Yellowstone, this is also certainly one of the more unpleasant ways to go. - Whywhat
