Top 10 Video Games, Movies and Shows That Are Greatly Overrated Due to Their Nostalgia Factors

The Top Ten

1 Titanic (Film)

Think its overrated check out Titanic: The Legend Goes on, The Legend of the Titanic, Tentacolino (In Search of the Titanic). The first in the American dub had a rapping dog, the second had an octopus that saved everyones life and the sequel to the second had them in Atlantis!

If you thought that Titanic was a disgrace to the Titanic, wait until you see the animated Titanic trilogy.

This film doesn't relate to the book that much

More overrated than Frozen. More overrated than Avatar if that is even possible. - 445956

2 Final Fantasy VII

What, one of the best games - PeeledBanana

Final Fantasy VII is overrated across the board, and a colossal spit in the face to RPG fans. It shed the quintessential elements that made is predecessors great in favor of neurotic melodrama that doesn't work well by any standard, anime tropes, and character types presented as if to appeal to weeaboos and aspies. The overall plot had potential, but basically turned into an emo kid's "emotional struggle." The characters can easily be defined: edgy kid protagonist, black guy replete with stereotypes, pretty boy supervillain to appease the fangirls, and chick we're supposed to care about later because she dies. The sci-fi concepts presented are a joke, and don't hold a candle to that of Chrono Trigger. The battle system is a let down, and the cutscenes make The Joy of Painting seem entertaining. There's also some political crap later on, but it's not
particularly captivating because somebody at Square back in the day forgot to write a script. It's practically West Side Story with an ...more - TruthProphet

3 Pokémon Red

Pokemon red is extremely adorable and great!

Very little replay value. Also, Charizard isn't that powerful. - TruthProphet

A perfect example of how nostalgia clouds judgement - Frouze

Regular Charizard sucks. I can defeat him with Stone Edge in one hit and then Charizard dies bye bye.

Seriously though, this game is boring now. Why would you play this when there are tons of other Pokemon Games.

4 Super Smash Bros. Melee

Say the stupid reason that annoye everybody whit me guy: IT NOT MELEE!

Brawl is better because of Project M.

I 100% agree. Melee fans will insult SSBB and SSB4 because it was made afer them. The fans are the kind of people who leave ranting bad reviews at the day of release that are basically there to say that Melee is better. Yes, Brawl wouldn't exist without Melee, but that does not automatically mean it is better. Besides, SSBM was secret (hence the 'Project M' a visitor put), so Nintendo didn't know what fans wanted, unlike later SSB titles. Any time I see a crazy Melee fan I just want to leave. - BlueTopazIceVanilla

5 The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time

Ocarina Of Time is NOT overrated! I played it for the first time last year, and I can say it's one of the greatest video games of all time. - MaxPap

Compared to Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, as well as other fantasy games like Final Fantasy XII, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Xenoblade Chronicles, this game just doesn't hold up anymore.

I didn't even know this game existed until I started watching video game YouTubers years back. I thought, "Why does this always have the best gameplay, the best graphics, or the best storyline? " I think people are blinded by nostalgia. Kinda like a food/drink you used to love as a kid, but when you try it as a teen it's okay or you maybe even hate it. The people who worship this game do not have that thought process, it is only good because they grew up with it. The first Zelda game isn't even as popular as this one! I have sadly never played a Zelda game, but even I know this is overrated.
Get The Legend Of Zelda: Overrated Of All Time to #1! - BlueTopazIceVanilla

Heck, in retrospect, I would say that Undertale actually kind of deserved to beat Ocarina Of Time in that stupid GameFaqs poll.

Or maybe that stupid poll shouldn't have even existed in the first place because there is really no such thing as THE best game ever, regardless of Undertale being a goddamned phenomenal and beautiful storytelling experience of a game.

I guess what I'm really trying to say here is that it really doesn't take much of a game to beat Ocarina Of Time by today's standards, you know? :/ - xandermartin98

6 Mega Man Legends

More overrated than Mega Man 2 and Mega Man X in my opinion. - PerfectImpulseX

7 Star Wars

"Space opera." How do those two words make any sense when you put them side by side? - TruthProphet

The most overrated franchise in existence but I still respect it's special place in history. - PerfectImpulseX

Yes. But I can't say the same for Empire Strikes Back. - BeatlesFan1964

Gundam is better. - PerfectImpulseX

8 Dragon Ball Z Dragon Ball Z Dragon Ball Z is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. Dragon Ball Z follows the adventures of Goku who, along with the Z Warriors, defends the Earth against evil. The action adventures are entertaining and reinforce the concept of good versus evil. Dragon Ball Z teaches valuable more.

The battles are too drawn out and the plot is contrived. On top of that, it seems like Akira Toriyama needs to give every character a power that will enable them to blow up the universe 50 times. - TruthProphet

9 Street Fighter II
10 Shrek

How did this amazing anime make it on here? - FirelordZuko

A really dumb, gross movie about butts, poop, as farts. Older people say ALL T.V. shows have toilet humor, but this is the worst kind. The plot was generic, I guessed who the love interest was the second Fiona was introduced, and the meme is not even funny. AT ALL.
Then they spam this garbage to no end, and they're on their what, FOURTH Shrek?!?!?! This movie series is milked more than Ice Age and Alpha and Omega COMBINED!

How did this get here?

This is stealing, A lot of stealing!

The Contenders

11 Pokémon Gold/Silver
12 As Told by Ginger As Told by Ginger As Told by Ginger is an American animated television series aimed at teenagers, produced by Klasky-Csupo and aired on Nickelodeon.

What a boring, teen-pandering rip-off of Arthur. - PerfectImpulseX

13 Spongebob Squarepants
14 Voltron
15 Will & Grace Will & Grace Will & Grace is an American sitcom created by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan about the relationship between best friends Will Truman (Eric McCormack), a gay lawyer, and Grace Adler (Debra Messing), a straight interior designer. It was broadcast on NBC from September 21, 1998 to May 18, 2006, for a total more.

Not funny.

If you take your nostalgia goggles off, you'll find out it's pretty unfunny and offensive to gay people. - PerfectImpulseX

16 Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs

What is that - PeeledBanana

17 Monty Python and the Holy Grail
18 Banjo-Kazooie
19 Harry Potter

I had no reason to read past the fifth book; only did read the last two out of a sense of obligation. Over time, I've realized that they're really not that well-written and we all probably were too blinded by the author's sob story if not her gender to see that.

The first four books were excellent, don't get me wrong, but good luck finding anyone who will admit that the latter half of the series was even one iota less good.

Nope I read them for the first time this year at age 12 and finished at age 13 and still loved them

20 Pokémon (Anime)
21 The Legend of Zelda: a Link to the Past
22 Battle of the Planets
23 The Lion King

It gave spotted hyenas a bad rap!

Better than The Black Cauldron. - TruthProphet

I watched it recently. It still holds up. - BeatlesFan1964

24 Lord Of The Rings

Boring, too long,i can"t tell the battle scenes in two towers and ROTK apart honestly feels like the same movie, it's a good trilogy but people really think it's the best franchise ever made even more than the iconic SW? What is wrong with you people?

Oh god my room is roasting,a movie should distract me from the heat...
...oh,the entire trilogy is over 5 hours...I might get warm of boredom.

25 The Dark Knight
26 Johnny Bravo Johnny Bravo Johnny Bravo is an American animated television series created by Van Partible for Cartoon Network, and the second of the network's Cartoon Cartoons.
27 Full House Full House Full House is an American sitcom created by Jeff Franklin for ABC. The show chronicles a widowed father, Danny Tanner, who enlists his best friend and brother-in-law to help raise his three daughters.

My little sisters are obsessed over this show along with its sequel Fuller House even though they weren't born in the 1980's-1990's. - PerfectImpulseX

28 Sonic The Hedgehog Sonic The Hedgehog Sonic the Hedgehog, trademarked Sonic The Hedgehog, is the title character and protagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog series released by SEGA, as well as numerous spin-off comics, five animated shows, and an animated OVA.

Nostalgia for the first three or four games and the two animated series are the only reason this very much product of the '90s hasn't faded away like puka shells and Giga Pets.

Modern Amy Rose is one of the main reasons why Sonic the Hedgehog is loved too much. I actually do not hate the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise like the so-called Sonic fanbase, but there are more than ten characters that make me ill by the fact that they are so one-dimensional from Omochao to Hope Kintobar to Antoine D'Coolette. >:(

29 Barney & Friends Barney & Friends Barney & Friends is an American children's television series aimed at children from ages 1 to 8, created by Sheryl Leach and produced by HIT Entertainment. It premiered on PBS on April 6, 1992. The series features the title character Barney, a purple anthropomorphic tyrannosaurus rex who conveys educational more.

Overhated, with Teletubbies, Dora, Boohbahs.

32 Tiny Toon Adventures Tiny Toon Adventures Tiny Toon Adventures is an American animated comedy television series that was broadcast from September 14, 1990 through May 28, 1995 as the first collaborative effort of Warner Bros.
33 Mean Girls

Seriously, this movie is overrated by every teenage girl/young woman on Tumblr who grew up in the 2000's! What a mean-spirited movie! - PerfectImpulseX

34 Power Rangers Zeo
35 The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker
36 Earthbound

Why would you vote for Earthbound it is actually amazing still to this day and it is really good - TheThomasThomas

Yeh this games is just AWESOME!

37 Pokémon Go

I've never played this video game before and all but how the hell is it nostalgia? Hasn't it been out for less than a year? Or no? - HeavyDonkeyKong

38 Yu-Gi-Oh! Yu-Gi-Oh! Yu-Gi-Oh! was aired from 2000 to 2004 in Japan, and 2002 to 2006 in the US. It continues where the Toei Anime Left off. When 10th grader Yugi Muto solves the Millenium Puzzle, Yami Yugi emerges, taking control of him to help his friends. In Duel Monsters, they mostly played children's card games because more.

Should be WAY higher than Pokemon. At least Pokemon doesn't have constant reformation to the point of boredom.

For the record, this only applies to the original arc. And mabye also, GX. But 5ds, Zexal, and Arc-5, those are modern. And Zexal and Arc-5 are actually underrated.

39 Teen Titans Teen Titans Teen Titans is an American animated television series created by Glen Murakami, based on the DC Comics characters of the same name.

I bet ten years from now people will be saying this was the golden age of Cartoon Network, even if there would be better shows in the future. Nostalgia.

This series used to be light-hearted, but eventually became a narrative about liberalism. Also, the fanbase is psychotic beyond all recognition. - TruthProphet

Seriously, THIS is the best Cartoon Network show of all time? Courage the Cowardly Dog, The Powerpuff Girls (1998), Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, etc. were much better shows than this and the other modern CN shows. - PerfectImpulseX

A crappy SJW T.V. show. However, I have to agree it hasn't been out long enough for there to be a nostalgia factor. - BlueTopazIceVanilla
