Deus Ex is a hard game to get into in the Modern Age, no doubt. But if you push past the Older aspects, you'll be absorbed into a world where your decisions really matter and not from some button prompt, from actual gameplay. If you do play it though, don't play it as an FPS. It is more of an RPG and if you run in shooting, you'll end up dying straight away.
One of only a handful of games that I've truly felt immersed within it's digital world; the others being Metroid Prime, Shadow Of The Colossus, Ocarina Of Time and (oddly) Donkey Kong Country (it was the music! ). It doesn't take fancy graphics or even an open world for a game to feel immersive; it takes a perceived notion of freedom and a whole lot of atmosphere. This game's artistic and technical achievements were stunning for it's day.
a fine classic, but very underrated.
the last grand work of ion storm.
really addictive and active gameplay.
what should a geek wants more?
Despite being 16 year old this is one of the best game ever made among my top 5 at least. A fantastic written game, with good choices, a brilliant story, great atmosphere, great characters, good setting and fantastic hybrid between stealth, fps, and rpg. Must playV 4 Comments
It's a beautiful, sprawling, and open-ended game that lets you play pretty much however you like as long as you're willing to fill in a few blanks using your imagination. One of the best RPG games ever.
As the years passed, the importance of these kind games are getting forgotten. I always get upset about this fact. - xanjr
What the hell is this game doing at #90?!? The best experience I, and countless others, have ever had was with this game. It's unique and engaging world, with amazing dungeons and characters to meet with plenty of enemies, quest, and place to find and explore, and its amazing storyline.
I wearno nostalgia glasses, and I am talking Morrowind Vanilla. This game is beat, even today. Kids of this generation might never understand...
It's sad see that a masterpiece like this is so low in this list. I don't even born in the time of the old school games.
Don't worry, they may well remake it in time.V 9 Comments
The, without a doubt, best video game of all time. The story is INCREDIBLE, the enemies are well thought out, the script is actually funny, the free roam to do your own thing is just so fun(crimson guards, hijacking vehicles, randomly assaulting people in the street- assassin's creed style, but better, and more stuff to do. Eat THAT, Ubisoft! )and overall just an epic experience. The way Jak suddenly turns into an angry menace from a silent hero is a little strange, but that's the only, MINUSCULE blip. The ideas, such as dark Jak, the weapons(peacemaker for the win, baby! ) and daxter missions are unique. COMPLETELY outshines R&C, the levels are epic (if you've played this, you'll remember the tank level. GOD, that was fun! Hard, but the greatest level on a game ever made. ) and overall, no other game can touch Jak and Daxter for story, action, free roam and excitement.
By the way all of them are good, Jak 3 and the precursor legacy are still 10/10 games, but Jak and Daxter is ...more
Incredible! Extremely fun and challenging! There's too much to say about this game. This is one of the best games I've ever played before. If you like a challenge, this game is good for you! If only I still had my ps2 so I could play this game all over again!
So fun I played it 2 days straight and beat it!
Amazing but SO hardV 1 Comment
Absolutely gorgeous, well executed, and a game that needs no words. It is timeless, and it touches you, seeing these massive beasts die by your hand. Seeing Aggro fall was an Old Yeller moment, a gaming moment that will live with me.
In my opinion, this is the best game ever made (with all due respect to The Legend of Zelda).
As you dig further into the game, your actions aren't met with an emotional feel of triumph. When you finally drive your sword in for the killing blow, there's a sense of sadness. You've ended something beautiful, something without Malice or rage.
Shadow of the Colossus is definitely one of the best games ever. I can't think of any game that has this epic and involving story without a single spoken word from the hero. Shadow of the Colossus deserves to be called video game art.
One the the best games ever!
This is not a game... this is ART! gorgeous graphics, music that grasp your spine and a unforgettable history... this must be in number 1 in the ART list!V 15 Comments
This is an amazing game single payer makes it my top 3 game but with coop and multiplayer makes it just under fallout 3 witch is the game with the most meaning and best story but I only have played like 10% of far cry 3 so I don't know if it is even better than I thought
Holy crap 100 place this is surprising! I expected to see this at a reasonable 20th place, for a video games of ALL TIME list, but 100th? That's kind of crazy, and now I feel like I didn't accomplish much... But, hey! I beat #13 and #14!
Yep. The best Far Cry - which is saying something considering how good the whole series is. Roll on Primal (which looks like Ark).
What...this game is insanely good and way better than assassins creed games...i just love the moment when jason and vaas share the screen together...this list is wrongV 5 Comments
Lets face it, Sega's awesome and this game actually became the BESTSELLING SEGA game of all time, since then, Sonic games have gone downhill with all these new characters - TammieRD
A first video game for many gamers, myself included.

Just the thrill of going through loops at the speed of sound in chemical plant zone is JUST SO AWESOME.V 11 Comments
There's a lot of problems with the endings, such as 'since when could a cain kill a reaper', 'why don't we use the conduit to get on the citadel', why does the red ending kill the Geth (that's making a gray decision black and white) and why does the green and of corse the ghost by one even exist but since the extended cut 'lack of choice' isn't one of them. I don't understand why people complain about that.
Great game! Horrible ending, worst ending ever in gaming history! Amazing til the last 10 min though!
Choose your colour lights for ending.
Shouldn't even be in the top 100.
I refused to play it till I received the patched ending.V 1 Comment
One of my favorite games of all-time. This game terrific. I recommend it to anyone. Go BATMAN! - FootballDog61
This my favorite of the arkham games
My favorite story out of any game.V 1 Comment
This game doesn't deserve to be top 5, but definitely top 10. It isn't one of those nostalgia-preying indie piles of crap, but it's a simple-looking game with a deeper meaning.
Personally, I feel as if it's a game with something for everybody. The characters are deep, and killing them is unthinkable to most. Instead, it encourages you to find other ways to defeat them through pacifism, pleasing the story fans. It's got horror, and quite a bit of it in the form of the Amalgamates and Omega Flowey, making it very interesting and appealing to fans of horror. It even has comedy and a bright atmosphere that most children would love, and they wouldn't even think about the other parts of the story. It's a true kids-to-adults game, having none of the gore and innapropriate stuff, being bright and bubbly, but still sad and deep enough that older crowds are drawn in.
One of the things I can't get over with this game is the fact that it was hand-designed by one guy- the musical ...more
Undertale is a truly beautiful game that I would consider a masterpiece and it definitely deserves a higher place place on this list.
Undertale may not have incredible graphics like some other games on this list, but it definitely makes up for it with an incredible, original, beautiful and deep plot. One of my favourite things about Undertale (Papyrus has the top spot) is the morality. Fight or Mercy? This is the big question that will decide everything within the game, from the music to the characters, and OH BOY DO I LOVE IT! Undertale's morality system is amazing! And there's no way I can explain why I love it so you'll just have to play the game to understand ;)
You may be a bit cynical of its soundtrack due to the intense positive raving that surrounds it but consider that almost every song in the soundtrack has its own unique style and that these songs are capable of conveying very complex and beautiful emotions, not even mentioning the fact that every song is ...more
Come on guys! This game deserves better than 93! I've only played like 20 minutes of ocorina of time but I'm willing to take people's word that it deserves the number 1 spot. THIS GAME DESERVES NUMBER 2! It is my all time favorite video game that I've ever played! (except mabye it's tied with minecraft, I'm not sure) The characters and characters development is so well done, the story is really really good, the gameplay always feels fresh and is really fun, the choice weather to attack or spare your enemies is not only genius, but it changes the way you think about the characters and your actions in the game, and the soundtrack, MY GOD THE SOUNDTRACK IS AMAZING! This is a perfect game if I've ever seen one! The only bad thing I can say about this game is the fan base, but as long as you ignore that, you'll have an amazing experience. Now let's work to get this game higher on the list because it deserves it.
The only bad part is the Sans fight.
top 10 CHARActers
1. Chara Dreemurr
4. Undyne the Undying
5. Mettaton EX
7. The Amalgams
(Sorry Asriel isn't on the list)
This game sucks! It's also overrated.
The first shooting game I ever played was Call of Duty the big red one
It's waaay overrated dudes
That isn't even a GAME! it's a franchise - Gamefreak23788
This game was amazing. It had likable characters, a good story line, and the ending was extremely emotional. I will not spoil it but if you played the game and got through the ending without shedding at least a tear well congratulations you psychopath. It also shows how jut a point and click game can be very enjoyable to play. Over all, just an amazing game. Two thumbs up over here.
The walking dead was, at its worst, amazing. It showed how simple gameplay can be fun with a great and emotional story, and you actually felt for the characters. It deserves higher on this list and deserved game of the year
100! Really? This game deserves to be #1. The story is hands down the best of all video games ever made. I understand some people want repetitive shooting games but not even in top 10?
Legendary Game, great story! I'm giving it a vote just for Lee two. R.i.pV 30 Comments
The Gods of Olymus may have abandones Kratos, but not this game! - moonflash
38?! Is it possible that the game with the best graphics of all time is top 38? Impossible! Kratos, your revenge ends! Kill all the people who didn't voted for you!
The most baddas game ever very good plot awesome combat and great character make this game and franchise best ever
I really loved this game as a kid, it should be high up but I mean its voters, haters gunna hate right?V 5 Comments
One of the best Mario games. Great mechanics beautiful landscapes and an amazing sound track. So many levels...but today Call of Duty and grand theft auto are over this. Those games have about as much creativity as a bag of hammers. This game is a master piece
Why didn't Princess Daisy replace Princess Peach's role?! WHY?! Is this most likely because of no Luigi in it?
Very fun and entertaining to play when bored.
The only bad thing is the plot but besides that this game is my 3rd favorite gamecube game aka 3rd favorite video games cause the other 2 are gamecube games. - spodermanfan1000V 4 Comments
I think the only Pokemon game above it is Emerald at 38. Other than Emerald, why is there no Pokemon game in a high ranking?!
I loved this took about a week to beat though (not all at once)
It is the latest and is really fun there are lods of pokemon in it and its a massive game.
I think some people who hate pokemon are a big dingus. POKEON the BESTV 5 Comments
This is, in short, my favorite video game of all time. I know the phrase gets thrown around a lot, but Half-Life was one of the first computer games I played and it's still my favorite. It's not perfect by any means, but it put Valve on the map and was a milestone for first person shooters. This game was way ahead of its time, and spawned many mods that became full-fledged franchises, such as Day of Defeat and Counter-Strike.
I simply don't understand why Half-Life 2 is so much higher on the list than the original game. They're both incredible, and deserve the same amount of respect. Valve knew what they were doing when they entered the video game industry, and their Half-Life series remains one of the most well-crafted franchises on the market.
The mods ALONE for this game make it #1 for me. Counter Strike? Team Fortress Classic? Day of Defeat? Natural Selection? Firearms? Digital Paintball? Just some of the awesome mods made possibly BY THIS GAME.
I remember playing it when it had just came out, the interactive cut scenes were so novel and creative for the time - the train ride in the beginning and the AI behavior of the human enemies and everything else. It was immersive and the headcrabs were actually a bit scary
I would rate Half-Life as the Best Video Game Ever.
Compared to our time, terrible graphics; but in my eyes graphics don't complete the game, I feel that this gave valve a head start into a company that produces many games to come.
Easily best game, look at any professional game rater and it will be top 5.It is so stupid its at 91.V 10 Comments
My family and I enjoy this game a lot, having currently invested over 350 hours into it. I know that civ 6 is out, but still, this is still a really good game. At least 30 different civilizations and leaders, each with unique units and troops, natural wonders, and in depth gameplay, it serves as a game I really enjoy.
My favorite part of this game are the city states, which I think, pardon me if I'm wrong, are new to civilization iin this game. You have to gain influence in the city states by assisting them with tasks they give you, such as clearing a barbarian encampment or donating gold. In return, depending on what kind of city state they are such as militaristic or religious, they will give you gifts or support. At 30 influence, they will become friends and give you half of their potential help. At 60 influence, they will become your ally, unless someone else is already, then you'll have to beat them in terms of influence, but, as allies you will get the full potential of ...more
Pretty good if you want to learn about history - RandomGuy456
A fun game to play by yourself or with friends.
As a major fan-boy of the Metal Gear Series, I was disappointed to see this title so low on the list. I understand why people put Metal Gear higher up, but starting an amazing series doesn't make it the best in the series. As an American, I got shafted on the Metal Gear game, so I can't honestly vote for that with a clear conscious.. But this game is a masterpiece. The visuals are amazing, the game play mechanics are smooth, and the story wraps everything so nicely. It's always going to be one of me favorite games of all time. - Strokavich
Please you can't trust the internet all the time. I stuck with thinking if this is better than halo 3 or not just say what you think, I'll count the votes and whoever has more will win. yell out your own opinion
This game is AWESOME, but my CD is broken and when the 2nd ending starts, there is like a CD icon on the top left of the T.V. , if anyone knows how to fix this, please reply to this comment
Hands down the best story telling and visuals of the last 20 years. How is Halo anything above this. Halo is so shallow and single mindedV 2 Comments
Dragon Age Origins will probably never top a best games list since it has such a limited appeal, however; DAO is still an incredible game with smart combat, an epic story, and a completely fleshed out fantasy world. DAO has some of the best companions I've ever seen in any game. The companions all have fleshed out backstories and personalities and really help you get immersed in the game. The combat is probably what puts a lot of faint-of-heart out of the game (since it requires constant attention and careful planning in dangerous situations. ) The combat is actually very well balanced and if you play on higher difficulties can certainly challenge the genre's veterans. Finally the game has a very well thought out and written story which helps tie the whole game together to be my favorite. Just don't mention Dragon Age 2 which sucks in comparison.V 2 Comments
