1 Dahvie Vanity Dahvie Vanity David Jesus Torres, better known by his stage name Dahvie Vanity, is an American singer-songwriter and rapper born on September 5, 1984, who is best known as one half of Crunkcore duo Blood on the Dance Floor and as the face and creative mind behind Industrial project Sinners are Winners. He is also ...read more.

The major problem was that for some time he was not aware of his limitations as a singer that's why on early records he often doesn't hit the right note and couldn't stay in tune. I think he realized his voice was pretty thin and on the last records he stayed within his vocal range, and leaves the more difficult parts to his band mates (e.g. Jayy von Monroe sings the chorus of "I am Not in Love Anymore", and Fallon Vendetta performs the more sentimental parts on their last album). However, his screaming/more aggressive vocals are pretty good, he seems to only have problems with quieter or poppier singing. - Martin_Canine

I looked at their genre, it's neither Rock or Metal. It's $#%€. - Gehenna

He's really improved since Sinners are Winners. "I Hate Every F***ing One" is a good example. - EliHbk

2 Lou Reed Lou Reed Lewis Allan "Lou" Reed (March 2, 1942 – October 27, 2013) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He was the guitarist, vocalist, and principal songwriter of the Velvet Underground, and his solo career spanned five decades. ...read more.

Very often he just speaks (Dave Mustaine of Megadeth does the same but at least Dave sounds powerful when he snarls) - Metal_Treasure

Yes, he often speaks, and it makes me wonder, how can so many people like this kind of music...

@somekindofaguy: like with several artists on the list, their approach is all about artistic vision and songwriting rather than their singing ability. Also, I think the lack of a strong singing voice can still make you a good vocalist if you know your limitations and use your voice fitting to the music. - Martin_Canine

3 Mick Jagger Mick Jagger Sir Michael Philip "Mick" Jagger is an English singer, songwriter, and actor, best known as the lead vocalist and a co-founder of the Rolling Stones.

No this guy has one of the greatest voices in the world

It's not that great, but just like Dylan, who doesn't like the Stones? His voice isn't that bad actually, not as bad as Bob Dylan's.

"No this guy has one of the greatest voices in the world"
If he has one of the greatest voices according to you then how would you describe Michael Kiske/Bruce Dickinson/Hansi Kürsch/Tobias Sammet/Ronnie James Dio/FReddy Mercury/Ian Gillan's voice?

4 Geddy Lee Geddy Lee Geddy Lee Weinrib, known professionally as Geddy Lee, is a Canadian musician, singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist, bassist, and keyboardist for the Canadian rock group Rush.

No thanks, not the best. - EliHbk

I wish Rush had a different singer. Because everything else this band does is more than perfect.
But Geddy's got very good singing instincts and musicality - he doesn't sing off-key and he moves properly from note to note even when he sings fast. The guy just wasn't born with a good singing voice. - Metal_Treasure

5 Bob Dylan Bob Dylan Bob Dylan is an American singer-songwriter, author, and artist who has been an influential figure in popular music and culture for more than five decades.
6 Dave Mustaine Dave Mustaine David Scott "Dave" Mustaine (born September 13, 1961) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, actor and author. Mustaine is best known as a pioneer in Thrash Metal, being the former lead guitarist of Metallica before his dismissal in 1983, leading to finding and becoming the front man of his own ...read more.

Example - when he sings the line "Just like the Pied Piper..." (Symphony of Destruction).
But his voice's got power when he snarls/growls. - Metal_Treasure

7 Kurt Cobain Kurt Cobain Kurt Cobain was born February 20, 1967, in Aberdeen, Washington. In 1987, he started the grunge band Nirvana, which became one of the most successful bands ever. He was a talented yet troubled grunge performer. Kurt Cobain became a rock legend in the 1990s with his band. He committed suicide at his ...read more.

I think of Kurt Cobain had the voice of an angel it would kind of destroy what his artistic visions were all along. Same with his work on the guitar. He's no virtuoso. The sound was all about apathy and rage, and he embodied all of this with extraordinary honesty. - Martin_Canine

The power of his voice is OK but the voice often cracks even on studio recordings - Metal_Treasure

That's what I like about his voice. It's honest and raw. It may not be vocally impressive but it isn't fake sounding or weak. - cjWriter1997

8 Chris Martin Chris Martin Christopher Anthony John "Chris" Martin is an English singer, songwriter and musician. He is best known as the lead singer of rock band Coldplay.

His voice is so weak. He sounds board when he sings. I know this might kinda sound like a childish insult to some people, but he honestly sounds kinda like a woman (which can't sing) to me sometimes, and this is not just a blind insult just because I don't like Coldplay, that's my honest thought. He also has a hard time expressing emotions in his singing. - RogerWatersfan1999

9 David Bowie David Bowie David Robert Jones, known professionally as David Bowie, was an English singer born in London on January 8, 1947, and was the son of a fundraiser and a waitress. He died in New York on January 10, 2016 at the age of 69, a hero to millions. ...read more.

These are his most popular songs and his voice fails to impress me - Space Oddity, Ziggy Stardust - Metal_Treasure

Ozzy is an English singer, songwriter, and television personality. He rose to prominence in the early 1970s as the lead vocalist of the band Black Sabbath. Not the weakest and not the worst voice but metal music needs different types of singers - singers that offer more than his voice can offer. Actually most of his songs aren't metal songs. - Metal_Treasure

The Contenders

11 Dan Reynolds Dan Reynolds Daniel Coulter "Dan" Reynolds is an American musician, most famous as frontman of the Las Vegas-based rock band Imagine Dragons. He has also released an Extended Play titled Egyptian - EP as a duo with Aja Volkman under the moniker Egyptian.

Not very good. - EliHbk

13 Billie Joe Armstrong Billie Joe Armstrong Billie Joe Armstrong is an American musician, singer, songwriter and actor who is best known as the lead vocalist, primary songwriter, and guitarist of the punk rock band Green Day, which he co-founded with Mike Dirnt.

He's a OK singer with OK power - his problems are due mostly to lack of vocal technique which makes his voice sound weak at times (he can't hold a note properly, and similar). - Metal_Treasure

14 Liz Phair Liz Phair Elizabeth Clark Phair is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and pianist born on April 17, 1967 in Connecticut. ...read more.

Like many of the singers on here, the greatness of her music and voice lies not in her singing ability, which is pretty thin, but in it coming off as honest and completely authentic. On songs as rough and minimalistic as hers, a powerful soul voice wouldn't fit at all. I don't think Christina Aguilera or Aretha Franklin should record songs such as "The Divorce Song", although they are better vocalists, because their flawlessness would ruin the song's mood. - Martin_Canine

I feel like Liz Phair is the creative type. She may not be the most skilled, but she has a lot of creativity and originality in her music, music artists like Kurt Cobain and her belong in this category. - AnimeDrawer

15 Liam Gallagher Liam Gallagher William John Paul "Liam" Gallagher is an English musician, singer, and songwriter. He rose to fame as the lead singer of the rock band Oasis, and later as the singer of Beady Eye.
16 Chester Bennington Chester Bennington Chester Charles Bennington (March 20th, 1976 - July 20th, 2017) was an American musician, singer, songwriter and actor, best known for being the lead singer of Linkin Park. He also participated in side projects like Julien K and Dead By Sunrise. He committed suicide in 2017 after a period of depression. ...read more.

I wouldn't call his voice weak it's very powerful not as powerful as Mercury or Ronnie James Dio but still powerful. - SomePersonYouHate

17 Yoko Ono Yoko Ono Yoko Ono is a Japanese multimedia artist, singer, songwriter, and peace activist who is also known for her work in performance art, music, and filmmaking.
