Top 10 Websites That Were Good But Went Downhill

This is a list of sites that were once good, but went downhill.
The Top Ten
1 YouTube YouTube is a global video-sharing website headquartered in San Bruno, California, United States. The service was created by three former PayPal employees on February 14, 2005. In November 2006, it was acquired by Google for US$1.65 billion. YouTube is ranked as one of the most visited websites, securing the 2nd place, only surpassed by Google Search. As of 2024, the CEO of YouTube is Neal Mohan... read more

Shane Dawson was the first person to put horrible videos on YouTube, and back then that was a minority, but nowadays, many more people are making these disgusting, pornographic, violent, and drug related videos just to get more views from fans and more money, they're so greedy, this is not an opinion, this is true.

Once you go on YouTube, you'll find all these disgusting videos made by disgusting people, and even the original and funny people we once had on YouTube became disgusting narcissists, they only want money, not fans, they don't even care about them, YouTube is dead, no joke/opinion.

People hare are getting right for once, YouTube was once great to go on, but now it's repetitive and nasty, stupid pranks, reactions, games and most of all, porn.

People like to show their bodies and talk about them to get more viewers and make money.

YouTube doesn't give a whatever to anyone anymore because those people think life is all about them and money, and that the world only revolves around them.

Even the best YouTubers and videos are gone and replaced with the worst things in the world.

YouTube is just one hopless waste to society and so many sites like DeviantArt went downhill, and so has YouTube, YouTube went REALLY downhill.

2 MySpace

It was a great site, until it lost quality, and underwent prostitution, like YouTube is undergoing, YouTube will end up like MySpace soon and will be gone forever.

Used to be fun. Now it's a *potentially awesome* site for music & bands... IF one could still sign-in.

Me and my friends were on here 24/7 in middle and hs. It was way better than FB! It could've went bigger!

I can't believe MySpace still exists.

3 Facebook

Facebook deliberately makes certain things (all of which - In my OWN experience - involve account settings & privacy issues re: the escalation of problems towards effecting tolerable resolutions/solutions) nearly impossible to accomplish. Even when administration is (inevitably & ineffectively) involved, the problems aren't "solved" at ALL.

Rather, they're addressed and then promptly invalidated, citing the "found to not violate our community standards".

Of course, when one merely glances over the said standards, the problems certainly DO violate them. This is then dismissed as interpretation.

You don't like Facebook because of bullies? I don't like my boss, but I don't quit my job because of that. You get your feelings hurt by someone you don't know over the Internet? That you don't even know? Maybe those bullies are right, you are not strong. I'm sorry if this sounds mean but you need to hear this. Why not block them or even just get off the internet for a while. Learn to just ignore these people and find happiness in your life. Then you will be strong. Keep your chin up and keep going through.

You really can't compare your job to Facebook, man. Your boss is your boss; he's just doing his job and maintaining his authority. If he was nicer, you'd be walking all over him. Facebook is not a place where people need authority, they just like being rude for no apparent reason. Nelson might have worded it like a child, but he sure as heck wasn't wrong; cruelty has, is, and always will be a problem. At least Nelson wants to slow it down before it gets out of hand instead of just ignoring it.

Facebook is going downhill mainly because a lot of cyber-bullying goes around especially on this site. You can argue about what I think as literally every other site has cyber-bullying involved as well.

4 Snapchat Snapchat is an American multimedia instant messaging app and service developed by Snap Inc., originally Snapchat Inc. One of the principal features of Snapchat is that pictures and messages are usually only available for a short time before they become inaccessible to their recipients. The app has evolved from originally focusing on person-to-person photo sharing to presently featuring users' "Stories" of 24 hours of chronological content, along with "Discover", letting brands show ad-supported short-form content. It also allows users to keep photos in the "my eyes only" which lets them keep their photos in a password-protected space. It has also reportedly incorporated limited use of end-to-end ...read more.

Useless app, you post photos and they kill themselves 10 seconds later. Complete opposite of what a photo really means.

Snapchat is awful people kill themselves because of people who hate the picture or are jealous because they are ugly.

Snapchat, a photo interacting site, lost it's quality with "junk", which explains how much the world is messed up.

Only useful for teenage girls who want their faces to have some sort of dog effect on them.

5 Twitter X (formerly known as Twitter) is an online news and social networking service where users post and interact with messages, also known as "tweets", restricted to 280 characters.

It went downhill once Elon Musk bought it. Now there's more bullying and too many accounts are getting taken. Plus there have been a bunch of death hoaxes ver since then.

Twitter was once good, it's still useful in some ways, but it went downhill really fast, people are harassing each other and talking about cr@p, yet they can't seem to be careful.

It's good, but I hate the bullying and the use of profanity.

6 Instagram

It's basically just sharing pictures. Ummm
.. we have a Facebook and Twitter! Twitter is NOTHING like Facebook. But why do we need Instagram? It's a combination of Facebook and Twitter.

It's a website where you show pointless stuff. The only way to get far on it is to be rich and "hot". Anyone who is unluckily ugly are hated. Sad site.

A photo interacting site like Snapchat, like others, went downhill, there are graphic pictures nowadays.

I was okay with Instagram until they introduced the current comment system.

7 Netflix Netflix is an American entertainment company founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph on August 29, 1997, in Scotts Valley, California.

Netflix is really a mixed bag and sometimes, it depends on the country you live in, because sometimes your content in one country can be really good, whereas the content in another country just isn't good. Netflix in the UK (where I live) really sucks. There's almost nothing interesting to watch these days, most new and trendy content either is crap or doesn't catch my attention, they've been taking out a plethora of good content for a while and they're continuously becoming more expensive. I kid you not when I was in Pakistan and Dubai and the Netflix selection there was a whole lot better than what the UK offered.

It's bad enough that I find myself jumping ship on other streaming sites, hoping I could just fetch something good that I can watch and enjoy.

Aside from Netflix not having all the shows I want to watch, let alone all the shows everyone else wants to watch, one thing that's been really bugging me with Netflix in regards to its anime distribution is solely the way they've been distributing it. Earlier this year in 2017, Netflix announced they would stream Fate/Apocrypha somewhere in November... MONTHS after the first episode of the show already aired in Japan. SERIOUSLY?! Why can't they just simulcast the show as it airs instead of waiting to stream it months after Japan airs it? There's a good reason why people rely more on Crunchyroll and Funimation than Netflix and Anime Strike: those two former streaming services have more shows in their catalog, have cheaper prices for membership, and simulcast their shows. Netflix may have its exclusives, but that doesn't mean the way they're distributing those exclusives is efficient. Plus, I've been watching episodes of Fate/Apocrypha off some obscure anime streaming websites that are ...more

Netflix is a cesspool of terrible, knock off kids cartoons and movies that are probably here just to find ways on how they can milk out even more money since they can't get them to air on other programs like Cartoon Network or maybe even Nickelodeon for that matter. Basically, Netflix is the easy way out for lowbrow, low quality garbage to make its way on here since they couldn't make enough money on their own, while at the same time never bringing in ANY good quality programs. Out of all the kid shows on Netflix, I can only find about 4 or 5 good ones, which says a lot since netflix is supposedly the website you should go to find all your favorite shows, if that were the case then why can't I find any good shows I want to watch? Why can't I find any good 90s shows like Cat-Dog or Hey Arnold, or any 2000s shows like Dexter's laboratory or Ed, Edd, and Eddie? Those kinds of shows would probably boost viewers by a TON, and yet netflix denies any of those shows.

Besides terrible ...more

You can't find all the awesome T.V. Shows! It is so annoying even though it costs hardly anything, they need to read their reviews and respect their thoughts. It seems that the Netflix creators have chosen their favorites and not anyone else's.

8 TheTopTens TheTopTens is a countdown-based website founded and created in 2005 which consists of user-generated content. Visitors can vote, comment, like other comments, and view user-created remixes. Registered users can use the additional features of the site - such as creating lists, remixes, posts, messaging, and following users to have content in the personal feed. It has over 200,000 lists as of 2022.

If anyone knows me well enough, then as of writing this in 2022, I'm a semi-retired user on this site, mainly coming back just to check up on messages, responses, and updates.

The reason is pretty simple; the site has simply lost what made it good in the first place and I'm not fond of its established rules, regulations, and restrictions. Most of it just hampers my ability to perform and contribute to my fullest potential and when some of your content is deleted simply because of the chance of having one bad word, then there's an issue, considering there are a number of alternatives to dealing with that, like just rewording said bad word. The administration of the site has been criticized by nearly everyone I've known here and I can see why; apathy and not being willing to properly communicate and/or encourage other users makes for poor leadership. That, and I don't think the administration knows their target audience that well.

Lastly, I think the social groups, norms, and cliques here were also not all that good. I don't expect rainbows and sunshine every day, but when a big deal of the community ends up opposing one another because of different ideals + most users have their interests stagnated to just what's the most popular in a medium (Lowest Common Denominators, as I'd like to call it), then there's nothing really engaging, interesting, or commendable to involve myself in.

It's really a shame. This site used to be good and had a thriving community, alongside great content. Buch that was back in pre-2016, 6 years from now, as of writing this. Now, it's just a shell of it's former self and hardly anyone I've known actively contributes here either. It's no wonder why I'm semi-retired here.

9 iTunes

ITunes used to be useful, but now it's messing up, it forces people to pay, and even if they pay, they won't get their items (songs) on time, and they have to have a discount and charge back, and then they lose money, iTunes stinks, people need to start focusing less on money and more on entertainment, education, families and friendship.

10 Club Penguin

It used to be fun, but Disney bought it. I pretty much have to pay to become a member in order to do anything. Then, each member-only thing costs more real money. And I still get ads. Also, it used to work on Android, now it doesn't.

It was shut down and was replaced with Club Penguin Island, JUST look at negative reviews at Play Store on Android devices.

There are the Nintendo games, so Club Penguin can live on unless every copy of all of these games are destroyed.

I didn't think this site still existed. Never ever played it. Never wanted to.

The Contenders
11 Roblox

The Inappropriate games have been becoming dangerous to younger players. I have joined that video game in early 2018 by creating my own main account, and what is with Bizarre Updates. there's amount of girls doing perverted stuff in front of boys is perverted and nasty. there are children playing Inappropriate Games and wanted to have sex with others, there's 3-year-olds asking their moms to wipe their butt in videos. there are Youtubers posting video about how to get free Robux which is a scamming, imagine not understanding roleplay or making your avatar look Inappropriate, there's Youtubers becoming boring and not uploading for longer, there are bizarre Roblox routines on YouTube.

The community on ROBLOX is cancerous and even occasionally dangerous to younger players. I'm unhappy that I never knew the real ROBLOX. I just joined last year in 2017, and am somewhat of a ROBLOX "noob". It's insane to see the amount of "online daters" that are influencing other players to become "daters" as well. You can't join a single server without it being full of profanity and other inappropriate things such as violence. The games do not have creativity within them. I must have seen at least one-hundred ROBLOX high-school games and I'm not exaggerating. Not to mention the violent games. Sure, maybe for some people it's laughable to see blood spurt from an exploding avatar, but to me t's cruel and offensive. Online daters are another thing that drive me crazy. To see people perform sexual acts in a kids' game is disgusting and immature. On top of that, it's probably six to eight year old kids that are performing those actions and you can only blame bad parenting and the Internet ...more

The community is the worst thing on Roblox that I would like to talk about. It has been getting worse and worse, especially on the forums. Sure, there are people who can be nice, but the majority of people are really horrible to others. They attack people for liking/disliking certain things (have no respect for others with different opinions to them), call people online daters for dressing up in certain things from the catalog (just because you like 2 hairs, being thin (2.0 body), or even having a 6-pack (because not everyone is fat or wants to be a fat lego person on Roblox) doesn't mean that you're an online dater) and the community would find any reason to moan at people who aren't extremely politically correct. Sure I'm a bit of a liberal, but I'm far from being as lib as these other members of Roblox.

The Roblox community is also full of sheep. To get a friend on Roblox, you must follow how other people behave and act exactly like how the person you want to be friends with ...more

It was much better community and the people who worked there actually cared about you and your thoughts.
Then eric died
Then the community became to rot along with the creativity of games
Then they realized these horrible updates modernizing it. After 2012 the roblox community really started to die off and what filled the space was cancerous internet warriors, Grammar natzis, ODers

They stopped caring about the customers and how happy they we're and then the kept adding crappy updates
Today roblox only cares about your money and it's the reason why tix is removed and why game developers have officially packed their bags and left. The moderation is horrible the community is completely toxic. So sad that this game sight had to become so uninhabitable.

12 Pandora.com

Pandora was once a great site to listen to music, it still is, but not as great as before, nowadays, modern culture music is being played, including music from Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, and not only that, it checks the users' politics, what's wrong with people?

13 BuzzFeed BuzzFeed, Inc. is an American Internet media, news and entertainment company with a focus on digital media. Based in New York City, BuzzFeed was founded in 2006 by Jonah Peretti and John S. Johnson III to focus on tracking viral content. Kenneth Lerer, co-founder and chairman of The Huffington Post, ...read more.

Buzzfeed used to not be SJW. It had funny quizzes on the site and random cute animal articles along with other cool stuff. The YouTube channel went downhill the same way - The videos on there used to be informative and not very political. My favourite series is still the 'Misheard lyrics' one, and that ended a year ago last time I saw. Now, while good, informative, unbiased videos do sometimes come out, an example being the one showing examples of how different living generations are different, they're being drowned by the sea of SJW political stuff. It's a shame.

Buzzfeed was always bad they would spread out lies and they still do! Plus they are feminists and they love blacks and hate whites. It's literally just stupid! Also, their most successful thing on their YouTube channel is where people go around and eat food. This website was never good.

A place to go if you like journalism and ads.

This site used to be good?. Really?.

14 Cartoonnetwork.com

Man, I remember back in the day when Cartoon Network's official website was actually worth going on. The web games were good old-fashioned classics, I could actually watch full episodes and ALL the episodes of a show I liked even without having to buy some stupid app, and the layout and design of the site was easy to navigate through and represented both old and new shows equally. Heck, this actually rings true for me during the days of Stuart Snyder's presidency. As for Christina Miller's presidency, even the website has become a hollow shell of itself like the network has. While the games aren't that bad (I haven't played any of them, so I can't really judge), now it's even more complicated to navigate the website (though, it's still easier compared to how harder it is to navigate Nickelodeon's website). In addition, what with the rise of the Cartoon Network streaming app, said app has essentially become a rip-off since you can only stream a few full episodes of a certain show ...more

I hate the new layout! Especially the games based off crappy shows like Uncle Grandpa and Clarence!

ModernSpongeBobSucks, I really like your response. It was funny when you mentioned the crappy show games!

I used to frequent this site around 14 years ago. No idea what it's like now.

15 Scratch.mit.edu

I still go on the site and I must admit that it has gone pretty downhill. The main things that went downhill are the projects getting featured and having lots of attention. The majority of them are art. Scratch is a programming website, not an art website, yet people who make art and publish it on the site get much more attention than the people who actually deserve that attention that is being wasted. I thought that Scratch was meant to be a programming site at least, but the only programmed thing in those projects is the audio! That's just a really basic script! What about projects with lots of programming getting popular, instead of the art? I share art, but I don't expect or want them to be popular, and I make decent projects as well as the art. Scratch is just "Warrior Cat" art and animal art. I love animals too, but at least I'm not a furry.

I've never personally seen anyone acting in a depressed manner, so that's very interesting for people to mention. Maybe I haven't looked deep enough yet. However, the main problem is that, things like art and comedy are things that depressed people do to get their minds off their depression. This means that, Scratch basically being an art website now, would have loads of depressed people in the community.

I like scratch a lot but people left because of 3.0. Things like F4F are big and noob coders advertise there crap games that arnt even considered a game probs something that has been done millions of times and assigned by there teacher. But the Ogs are really nice and so are the peeps who are famous (check me out, the names yee_toes)

I liked it, until the moderators kept banning me for absolutely no reason.

16 DeviantART DeviantArt is an online artwork, videography and photography community. The website was launched on August 7, 2000, by Angelo Sotira, Scott Jarkoff, Matthew Stephens, and others.

I came back to the after a year.

The first thing I saw on the front page was inflation fetish porn drawn with crayons.

Only a small percentage of the "art" that gets posted is presentable.

I used to love this site that was meant for ART ONLY but over the 5 years I was a member so many religious freaks came after me just because I was not a Christian! Plus all of the horrid art, sonic fans, and MLP fans...

This was once a good website. But it was ruined by bronies, furries, shall I go on?

Yeah, there are some really messed up people on there...

17 Tumblr Tumblr is a microblogging and social networking website founded by David Karp in 2007, and owned by Oath Inc.

Guys, forums and blog sites have always had porn on them okay? You guys just now become old enough to notice them more often

Used to be great, but now it's full of feminist landwhales getting triggered by every single thing.

The place where dark sides of fandoms gather.

Social justice warriors. Enough said.

18 Reddit Reddit (stylized in all lowercase as reddit) is an American social news aggregation, content rating, and discussion website. Registered users (commonly referred to as "Redditors") submit content to the site such as links, text posts, images, and videos, which are then voted up or down by other members. ...read more.

It is what it is, Its basically built by the users so you have to blame them, there are too many subs run by dick heads that will remove anything they don't like.

19 4chan 4chan is an anonymous English-language imageboard website. Launched by Christopher "moot" Poole in October 2003, the site hosts boards dedicated to a wide variety of topics, from anime and manga to video games, cooking, weapons, television, music, literature, history, fitness, politics, and sports, among others. Registration is not available and users typically post anonymously. As of 2022, 4chan receives more than 22 million unique monthly visitors, of which approximately half are from the United States.

It was once a cool meme site. Now it is a site for murderers to gather.

This is one of the oldest forum sites around, burned hot then, burning hot now

20 Nick.com

I hate the new layout! I don't even go on it anymore now that they replaced it with random "Don't Touch" stuff and stupid buttons. Is this what Nickelodeon thinks kids want these days?! And why are Sanjay and Craig and Breadwinners heavily advertised on the website?

Stupid shows on Nick nowadays, and there are advertisements that include violence, Kids should stay away from that.

This website is terrible now a days. It doesn't have games anymore and is just advertising for phone apps.

I didn't know it was physically possible for a website to be so bad.

21 Poptropica Poptropica is an online role-playing game, developed in 2007 by Pearson Education's Family Education Network, and targeted towards children aged 6 to 15. Poptropica was primarily the creation of Jeff Kinney, the author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. As of 2015, he remains at the company as the ...read more.

The game has gone downhill recently, making you pay for membership to complete the islands after spy island, when a couple years ago I remember completing both Nabooti island and Big Nate island, whereas today when I tried to go to another part of Africa on Nabooti island, and was greeted with something saying end of the demo, buy the membership to complete the island and future islands as well. Same goes for Big Nate island. I attempted to complete it and got pretty far, getting up to completing the comic and doing every other thing possible before getting the gum from the comic guy, and the same thing popping up and saying I needed to buy membership to complete the island, even though I was almost finished with the island anyway. In the end, I decided to go to a newer island and went into the common room where you can see other players, and no one was there, so I can understand why they did that, but at the same time, it's not the right way to go and can actually remove more people ...more

Some of the new islands are getting boring. But I still love this game!

THANK YOU TO WHOEVER PUT THIS ON HERE! In class it just popped into my head and got me thinking of this game and I was like "What is it called again? " Then I was roaming around this website and saw the name of it. Oh my gosh, THANK YOU SO MUCH! It's good, it hasn't gone downhill. Well... I haven't played it in a few years, so...

And I meant in class today.

2001-2005 the best. Oh remember The Cunning Fox Game Hall. The purse which if you didn't have any credits then it had three flies. The CAMERA! The Hobba's, the giant hand for the furni. Urgh if you wanted to change you had to leave the room.
