Top Ten Weirdest Songs of the 1960s

The 60's was a decade where novelty songs were all the rage. Any topic, no matter how strange, could be used in songwriting. Believe it or not, a song about a three-legged donkey in space had just about as good a chance of being a hit as the latest Simon & Garfunkel love song (and to be honest, with music where it is today, I'd take a three-legged space donkey song over whatever's on the radio nowadays - at least there wouldn't be any "whoa oh oh's" plaguing the chorus of that song). Please note that the names listed beside the items on this list are the names of the individuals/groups that originally performed the songs (not necessarily the ones who wrote them).
The Top Ten
1 Surfin' Bird - The Trashmen
2 They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa! - Napoleon XIV

For some reason all eyes focused on me whenever this was played on the radio. And now I'm typing and and sending this from the asylum...
I actually still like this song!

Creepiest song ever written. But I still love it.

Now if you want to talk about sheer weirdness... this song belongs at number one.

3 Harry the Hairy Ape - Ray Stevens
4 Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour (On the Bedpost Overnight?) - Lonnie Donegan

I believe this is a cover version of a song from the 1920's, but is that or the song's question really important?

5 Martian Hop - The Ran-Dells
6 The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins - Leonard Nimoy
7 Hello Muddah, Hello Fudduh (A Letter from Camp) - Allan Sherman

Spelled wrong, possibly why there is no link to a sample.
Fadduh.

8 Jeremiah Peabody's Poly Unsaturated Quick Dissolving Fast Acting Pleasant Tasting Green and Purple Pills - Ray Stevens
9 Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da - The Beatles
10 Revolution 9 - The Beatles

Weirdest song ever, period.

The Contenders
11 Monster Mash - Bobby "Boris" Pickett
12 Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow - The Rivingtons
13 In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida - Iron Butterfly

Not a novelty song, but a 60's heavy-rock anthem. The title was a drunken corruption of "in the Garden of Eden."

14 I Am the Walrus - The Beatles

The definition of weirdness

15 Caledonia - Cromagnon

It’s the very definition of weirdness. Just go check it out for yourself (WARNING: extremely spooky)
