The Top Ten
I don't like that we tiptoe around this issue. Maybe if we faced it head on, we could stop pretending like it doesn't exist. - keycha1n
If you're not a young, white, rich, Christian male...you're gonna get hated. And now you've got police brutality playing into this, with these racist cops killing unarmed, innocent black teens. The rich stand on the poor. Men are misogynists, and women are misandrists. Religion is playing into politics - which it really shouldn't - causing a lot of bias. I really wish people would just get to know each other before judging. - ThatStrangeKid42
Maybe in the USA but in the Netherlands we don't have these problems yet we still are a Western society.
Do we have to go over the Civil War all over again? - Ihaskitty1234
Corporations runs this country. You can't go anywhere without seeing some big-time company's logo with a registered trademark symbol to go with it. Nothing is publicly owned. Groups of people become brainwashed by the idea of money, and begin to swallow up all that is original and progressive. It just takes away so much variety and texture away from us. - ThatStrangeKid42
Almost nothing is made local today... Most of the companies we all know and love outsource to countries like Indonesia or Honduras (I have nothing against people living there) and pay their workers less than the average American worker. Why? GREED. Greed is a thing where if you have enough of it, you'll have lots of trouble stopping it. The majority of countries in the world follow either side of the philosophy, the corporates or the sweatshop workers. There are very few exceptions to this. - Turkeyasylum
"Nothing is publicly owned."
The depth and consistency of ignorance displayed on these lists borders on alarming.
Do you understand the concept of "shareholders," of a company being "publicly offered? "
Further, do you have any regard for the principle of PRIVATE property?
You have to wear the hottest clothes. You have to see the newest movie. You have to own the latest technology. People managed to live without such materialism 50 years ago...they were fine! Nobody is innocent - we're all guilty of this in some way. There is no such thing as a non-superficial person. We all have our weaknesses. Understandable. But the attraction towards superficial attributes just makes it worse. - ThatStrangeKid42
Kinda similar to discrimination. This is a huge problem among our American teens - the alphas and the omegas. The top and bottom. Let's lay down another issue here - BULLYING. Do you remember Amanda Todd? I bet you all cared when she was gone! Did you care when she posted that video? Huh? Be honest. - ThatStrangeKid42
Many, many, many problems here. If you're straight, sex runs your whole life. It's a good thing! But if you're LGBT, it's your worst nightmare. Homophobia is real. Don't deny it. If a celebrity says, "I'm gay", it's a whole-big to-do. When Bruce became Caitlin, it's "controversial". When Taylor Swift gets a new boyfriend, it's "normal". Think to yourself: does that actually make any sense? And I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE RELIGIOUS VIEWS ABOUT THIS. I can be tolerant of you if for religious reasons, you don't support gay marriage, transgenders, or abortion. But don't let that get in the way of other people's happiness. - ThatStrangeKid42
1 of The main problems with western culture is that it promotes sex, everything is sexualized from A music video & lyrics in a song, to fashion like the "if you got it flaunt it" attitude. They'll find a way of making food commercials sexual next. There seems to be lack of moral consequence. Society promotes the method of thought that sex is a completely natural thing between 2 people male or female even of the same sex & you should just have sex with whoever you like, casual hook ups, 1 night stands and casual relationships are fine, Saving yourself for marriage or 1 life partner isn't important anymore. Every1 is just sleeping about spreading diseases & throwing there integrity out the window. Morals are not important anymore, and then they wonder why the youth is so messed up? You got little immature girls who are barley 14 fully sexually active & dressing like sluts as society see's it as dressing in revealing clothes as apparently a good way of "empowering" ...more
Recent Harvard/Berkeley study identified single parenthood as the #1 reason for poverty and the inability for children born into it to raise social class. Men, quit abandoning your children; stay with them and raise them right.
Child abuse: check
Letting their children consume inappropriate media: check
Teaching them bad morals: check
Not knowing anything about being a parent: check
Sibling Equality as well. The little sibling gets spoilt. The older sibling doesn't want to talk to you. The middle sibling is left alone. - Harri666
America's media policy: Marilyn Manson is a horrible role model for the country. Pay attention to Miley Cyrus instead. She's a way better role model!
America's media policy: graphic, extreme, bloody violence is OKAY - just as long as you don't say a curse word or show a naked person. - ThatStrangeKid42
Adam Lanza shot up Sandy hook becasue he was mentally insane, not because of violent video games, you incompetent twits.
"But he played violent video games and watched violent movies! " Yeah, so did most of his fellow classmates around the same age, so why was Adam the only one that shot up a school? BECAUSE HE WAS NUTS.
Also, he didn't get a license for the gun, he stole it from his mother, then shot her.
Adam shot up the school because he was neglected by people around him, and he developed sociopathic tendencies because of it. It has nothing to do with video games.
Agreed; violent video games, and for that matter all video games are destroying the brains of youth everywhere today. Adam Lanza would have been completely harmless if he had not been allowed to be a gamer. Get rid of all of them.
"Adam Lanza...someone sold him guns and a license."
A "license? "
What sort of "license? "
No one "sold him guns."
His foolish mother allowed her lunatic son access to her lawfully-owned firearms, and paid for it with her life.
While you've made some salient points regarding cultural decay, you've damaged your credibility with the misinformation you've promulgated.
Specifically school shootings. Our society is to blame. Seriously! If we didn't glorify violence in movies and T.V., give guns to teens, and have so little work on mental health issues, these things wouldn't happen! Sandy Hook. Adam Lanza. Someone let him play violent video games all day. Someone sold him guns and a license. Someone didn't get him into therapy. Whether a school is under attack, or domestic violence - wifebeating and child abuse - takes place, or some movie with R-rated violence gets a PG-13 so "the kids won't be disappointed" - this is a society that lives and breathes violence. It's disgusting. Sometimes, our violence has a sexual energy to it. That's when it gets really bad. Rapists are constantly getting away with their actions. Domestic abuse of women is common. Then there's Isla Vista Shooting-type bad. I know it seems like I'm hating on men a lot here. But let's be HONEST - women don't rape men. Wives don't abuse husbands. If you can't understand that, then ...more - ThatStrangeKid42
We Americans love our money, our food on the table every night, our roofs above our heads...we consume. We dispose, and replace. That's a lovely $60 shirt you're wearing! It matches your Italian leather wallet, and your shine-up shoes. Did you know 1 in 6 American children go to bed hungry every night? Yet the rich people don't seem to care! Suburban resident rules: always avoid the "bad" part of town. Those aren't bad people. Those are LESS FORTUNATE people. Poverty is a horrible thing. Those homeless people don't rob you for money or greed. They want to feed their families. They want to live through the next day. - ThatStrangeKid42
"We Americans love our money, our food on the table every night, our roofs above our heads...we consume."
Such sick, perverted GREED!
Tell ya what, then. Give away all your stuff, then go live outdoors and starve yourself...if you don't freeze first.
It's both sad and irritating that someone so foolish and ungrateful was blessed to live in this, the most charitable and self-sacrificing country on Earth, and is too ignorant to recognize or appreciate it.
Are you white? The police don't have a problem with you. Are you black? Doesn't matter what you're doing or where you're going - that cop standing over there is focused on you. He'll find some abstract reason to question you. Search you without a warrant. Detain you. The truth is, many policemen have just a little too much time on their hands, and an overflow of poor judgment. The good cops don't get recognition because the racist ones are always stirring up controversy. Our prison systems are of out control. Over half of the world's prison population is in America. The death penalty is given out to people who did nothing wrong. Law enforcement is NOT there to help us. It is there to control us. Add the NSA on top of that. I'm afraid to go on the internet and research current events! If I even just Google words like "shooting", or "terrorist", or "Isis"...it's all paranoia. It's nerve-racking to know that we're all being constantly monitored. - ThatStrangeKid42
It's what I like to call the "Mass Mentality". If you don't THINK, ACT, and LOOK just like everybody else, you're "weird", or something worse. Conformist blindly follow. The entire society is a machine, as clone after clone is produced. There is no variety in our American citizens. 99% of us are the same as the next. Doing or saying anything different or off-beat is immediately frowned upon. Subcultures such as the hipster community or the alternative scene are ridiculed and rejected from everywhere and everyone. - ThatStrangeKid42
Agreed; the government should monitor exactly what and how much people eat, especially children, to help prevent obesity.
