Top 10 Wins Against the New York Yankees

The New York Yankees are perhaps the most despised franchise in all of sports. So any time a team wins a big series against them, it makes everyone's day. Here are the top 10 victories against the Yankees
The Top Ten
1 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates

The only walk-off home run to win Game 7 of the World Series was from Bill Mazeroski. The final score was 10-9 as the Pirates won the World Series.

2 2004 Boston Red Sox

Down 3-0 in the ALCS, the Red Sox rallied to become the first MLB team in history to win four straight games after losing the first three to the Yankees. This propelled them to win it all in the World Series.

3 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers

After seven failed attempts to beat New York in the Fall Classic, the Dodgers won their first and only World Series in Brooklyn against the Yankees in 1955. It was a complete-game shutout in Game 7 from Johnny Podres that did the trick.

4 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks

Despite losing three straight games in Yankee Stadium to fall behind 3-2, the Diamondbacks won Game 6 to force a Game 7. There, they rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning against Mariano Rivera to end New York's chances of a four-peat.

5 1995 Seattle Mariners

Down 2-0 in the ALDS to the Yankees, Seattle rallied back with two home wins to force a Game 5. Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the eleventh, Edgar Martinez delivered the biggest hit in franchise history with a double to score two runs and send the Mariners to the ALCS.

6 2017 Houston Astros

In one of the best series in recent memory, the Astros overcame a 3-2 deficit to the Yankees by winning Games 6 and 7 to reach the World Series.

7 2006 Detroit Tigers

After dropping Game 1, the Tigers answered back with three straight wins to upset the Yankees in the ALDS.

8 2010 Texas Rangers

Despite blowing Game 1, the Rangers defeated the Yankees in six games in the 2010 ALCS. This ended years of previous playoff losses to the Bronx Bombers.

9 1964 St. Louis Cardinals

In the final year before they would slump, the Yankees lost to Bob Gibson and the St. Louis Cardinals in a seven-game World Series.

10 1997 Cleveland Indians

Trailing 2-1 in the series and in Game 4, the Indians tied the score on a Sandy Alomar home run. Then, after completing the comeback with a win, the Indians finished off the defending champs in Game 5.

The Contenders
11 1980 Kansas City Royals

It was the revenge series for the Royals. When they beat the Yankees in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series, Yankee Stadium went silent, and the Royals loved it.
