Best Ancient Civilizations
Everything we have today and everything we achieved today we own it to the Greeks. There is nothing, absolutely nothing the Greeks hadn't master. Today's architecture is based on the Ancient Greece architecture. Literature started in Greece. Homer wrote Iliad and Odyssey thousands years ago that are still read today because of the special Homer style of writing. Ancient Greek mythology is awesome. Their gods, their heroes, their monsters... Everything has its root in Ancient Greece. Even the computer! Wherever you search, whatever topic it is, definitely an Ancient Greek philosopher has written about it or even master it... Ancient Greece is undoubtedly the best civilization on the planet that ever lived...
I say that Greece is the best Ancient Civilization. Although it was taken down by Rome and afterward, the Byzantine Empire, Greece gave Rome most of their ideas in education, learning, and logic. The Greeks, although they are not the most powerful civilization, not ranking up to Rome and the Mongols, Greece forged a vast empire, taking down the Persian Empire (Which IS conquered a whole lot), Egypt, and Bactria. Greece also invented philosophy, arts, Olympics, a military tactic called the phalanx, and more countless ideas. Luckily, these ideas were saved by the Islamic Empire that existed hundreds of years after the Greeks.
In reading the comments below it is more than obvious that the Ancient Greeks gave us so many things it can truly be said that without them we would not have our civilization.
BUT, their greatest contribution to us (in my humble opinion) was their attitude towards educating all their citizens. They realized that the more fellow Greeks contributed to a topic I.e. Math, philosophy, engineering, etc. the greater the advancement of the culture.
They did not fear competition or criticism they embraced it for the greater good. In the words of Aristotle..."The whole is greater than the sum of the parts"
Hope this make sense.
No other civilization has ever been more Influential then Ancient Greece. All of the greatest countries in history are influenced by Greece even Thousands of years later. America, the most powerful country in the world, has it's own government fixed on that of Athens. Even though the Roman Empire absorbed pretty much every place they conquered, Greece was the source of their culture. Eventually, The Byzantium Empire came along and they were Greek in every way possible. Then the renaissance came and if it was't for the Idea's that came along with it, the modern world would have been a lot more different.
If you want to see breathtaking scenery, a rich history and ancient culture, traditional cuisine and etc. then Georgia is the right place to visit. Moreover, you will get a chance to see and visit spectacular examples of stalactites, stalagmites, curtains, petrified waterfalls, cave pearls, underground rivers, lakes, and mountains. There are lots of places where you tourists need to discover and visit.
One more issue you have to remember, when you come to Georgia and after a while you will return to your homeland you will understand that you have left something in Georgia. What is that? Hospitality, new friends and acquaintances, new adventures and new feelings that you will never forget.
One among ancient but still alive civilisations in the world. Most of ancient civilisations are gone, unfortunately. As for Georgians, genetic studies approved that modern population of Georgia has very high genetic similarity to people who were living on the territory of modern Georgia 8000 and 13000 years ago. It's amazing how this ancient civilisation, I mean Georgians, could stay alive until now. Also interesting, that despite the fact of many invasions during a long history of Georgians, genetically we stayed isolated and saved our population.
One of the 14 unique alphabets, acknowledged as one of the 5 most beautiful alphabets in the world.
Cradle of wine, medicine, gold mining.
One of the oldest currencies from VI century because made of silver.
The first hominids in Europe 1.8 million years ago discovered in Dmanisi, Georgia.
Full of remnants of castles and Christian churches from many different ages. Went through a lot of wars since everyone wanted to take over the best place.
A small country with everything - modern civilization, villages with old traditional families and wild, uninhabited landmarks. Sea resorts, beautiful valleys, mountains and peaks. Climate for every taste.
Since ancient times Georgia has been known as a country of grapes and wine. Traditional Georgian wine is hardly imaginable without a qvevri. The history of making wine in traditional qvevri vessels has existed at least 8000 years and is till practiced today. Qvevri wine is unique for its rich chemical composition, its distinctive bouquet and taste and for its nutritional and curative qualities. The ancient Georgian traditional qvevri winemaking method is one of country's cultural achievements and treasures. Wine has a crucial place in social interactions in Georgia, playing a role in the traditional hospitality of the country and facilitating friendship and good will.
Nothing in the ancient world tops the pyramids. If it wasn't for the hellish weather and droughts causing them major setbacks they probably would have conquered the entire world.
The Norse were evolved from the barbarians who sapped away at Rome. Rome stole from Greece when it came to culture, architecture, and even land. Greece, of course, stole from Egypt- which was been a continually habitable nation for nearly six thousand years. While each of these peoples have drawn inspiration from others, only Egypt stands by itself- it is the foundation that holds up all Western civilization. It is a civilization that made unparalleled progress in a land that was not even able to provide any wood, let alone provide nourishment to a civilization that would stand for millennia. The last of the standing Wonders of the World belong to Egypt- and, it is considerably older than all of the ones that rose and fell after it. Most of their achievements are a mystery to people even today, to attest to their creativity and unending ingenuity.
Oh and Ancient Egypt was not a slave based society like Ancient Greece. The pyramids were built by PAID WORKERS who were citizens. Also, Ancient Greece was VERY sexist. Ancient Egypt was the first civilization to give women the same rights as men! Vikings would follow suit many millennia later. Please vote for Ancient Egypt because this civilization is the pinnacle of all civilizations. This Jewel of the Sahara built the ONLY remaining wonder of the ancient world. All the Ancient Greek wonders are I don't know, GONE! Thanks!
Ancient Egyptians were by far one of the best civilizations. They created their own writing system, hieroglyphics, built the first finished stone building (Zoser's Step Pyramid), and excelled in art, medicine, architecture, and painting. The ancient Egyptians also conquered many nations and gained wealth from trading partners. Ancient Egyptians were polytheistic and believed in an eternal afterlife. Their religion was very important in daily life. The Nile river supported Ancient Egypt. Without it there would have been no Egypt.
The Romans were way ahead of their time. While most citizens of the world were out and about living in huts and eating wild animals and stuff, the city of Rome was already dealing with building height regulations (buildings had to be limited to 6 floors), traffic jams, and problems with indoor plumbing. Instead of a feudalist like society found anywhere else in the world, where you would die in the same status you were born in, you could be a simple soldier in Rome and become a Senator, a simple baker and become filthy rich. You could live in modern day Spain or Egypt or Bulgaria and still be a Roman citizen. They had an advanced highway system, the likes of which are comparable to the interstate system, war machines in use even 1,000 years after Rome, and after the fall of Rome Europe couldn't recover for another millennia. The effects of this civilization are felt today all over the Western World.
I think Rome should be 1st. I am part Italian, myself, and I consider this civilization very interesting. Sure they were influenced by the Greeks, but the Roman Empire was almost one of the biggest empires back then, expanding from Britain to the Red Sea! Talking about the Byzantine Empire, they were alright. I am an American citizen and they have inspired us to build the US Capitol from the Parthenon with its big dome. Rome has lasted for about 400-500 years, almost like the Han dynasty in China (Han Dynasty: 206 because to 220 AD to Roman Empire: 27 because to 476 AD). Their republic was also interesting to study, from 509 to 27 because. I am also Christian and liked how later during the empire Rome converted into Christianity!
With all due respect, after c.550 AD the Byzantine Empire was all Greek. Latin was no longer spoken, all religious icons, liturgies, writings were Greek and there after the dominating culture for over 800 years was the Greek Byzantine Empire.
So much so that the city Naples was still speaking Greek up to the 1600's.
To further emphasize this issue, the Council of Nicaea 325 AD, which Constantine I called for, had close to 500 Bishops and Archbishops attend. Rome saw fit to only send 8 low level Bishops the rest were what we today refer to as Eastern Orthodox.
I am not trying to offend but you may want to read the four Byzantine books written by John Julius Norwich and I'm not being derogatory when I say 'that they are a good start on the topic' since there are many books on the topic.
All the best.
The roots of Western Civilization developed from histories longest lived civilization (500BC-1493AD). The decline and fall of the western part of the empire in 476AD, and the 1000 year chaos which followed (I.E. the dark ages) exemplify the importance of this once great empire. The Romans adapted foreign customs, ideas and people into their own. The were the first republic, and model for every republic to follow. With Rome lay the roots of western language, government, architecture and religion.
The history of modern nations such as the United States, mirrors Rome to a "T". Rome was founded as a result of resistance to the opposition and tyranny of their Etruscan overlords. The Roman's in founding their new nation swore never again to have a king. The government they established for their fledgling nation was named SPQR (latin translation: The Senate of the People for the People of Rome) was to serve that purpose. Sound familiar?

Before China fall to the hand of Japan during World War II, China was used to be a great civilized empires which lead by many king dynasties. They create a lot of wonders in China such like Great Wall, Forbidden City, Terracotta Army. They were created a lot of valuable antiques such as ceramics products, painting, bronze statue etc. Ancient Chinese have their own Chinese musical instrumental such as Guzheng, Erhu, Chinese Lute, Chinese flute etc. They create a lot of Chinese folk songs that lead these kind of culture should inherit to the next generations.
Although China was lagging behind of Europe and America in a few of recent centuries, China was far ahead of other civilizations in term of science, economy and social management. They invested the paper and languages to record the history, the silk for covering our bodies, china and chop-stickers to eat our meals properly, and cultivate so many of plants to feed our human, and hundreds of inventions, most important, they gave their knowledge free to the rest of world.
Zhou Dynasty: Under the Zhou Dynasty, their greatest achievement was the flourishing of Philosophy and ideas. Taoism, Confucianism, and Sun Tzu's The Art of War laid the foundation of China's future. Many technological advances, invented Kite. Set the framework for effective governance, and social harmony. Ideas such as the Mandate of Heaven came about.
Han Dynasty: Rivaled the Roman Empire, their technology and wealth was sophisticated. China accounted for 25% of the world's wealth, and about 1/3 of its population. Imperial examination system, and a meritocratic governance based system established. Expanded territory to greatest extent. Notable inventions include, crossbow, repeating crossbow, and seismometer. Vietnam and Korea, conquered and given Chinese civilisation.
Tang Dynasty: Considered a Golden Age of China, some scholars insist that it held around 50% of world wealth. It was home to the Silk Road, at this time, the Tang was a dream country. Japan, willingly ...more
I am Indonesian of Chinese ethnic and I would say that I am proud of Chinese civilization. It is true that China during the old days undergone several downturns (Mongol invasion, Manchurian invasion, civil wars) but the Chinese at the end became stronger than ever. And not only that, there are so many stories could be told about ancient China (thanks to the good historical record and good administration during that time).
While Europeans were still in their stone age, Indian kids were learning to read Sanskrit texts, the numbers we use today, were developed in India. Without these number the machines we use today wouldn't be even possible to make. Also in culture, India is very diverse, and warfare, kung-fu has its origins from India and kerelas martial arts is the oldest martial arts in the world. In conclusion India is the worlds most diverse country, we people from every religion and ethnicity here that settled here since medieval or later times. I personally believe that Greek is so overrated not trying to hate... But just because their culture is similar to that of Europe and the Americas, they I believe get way to much importance.
India has always been one of most tolerant civilizations. India never attacked any other civilization but rather others always tried to attack India and steal her wealth. As much Indians believe in non violence when it comes to defending our homeland all Indians stood on the borders of India to defend her.
Other then this India has contributed a lot to our present society. The problem is that India never got credit. A couple of important Indian inventions are the numeral system we use today but sadly credit is given to Arabs but Arabs them self's call these Hindu numbers meaning Indian numbers. India also invented the number 0, 1st plastic surgery, medicine, and influenced many parts of trigonometry and algebra. These are just a couple of things that I remember quickly there are many other thibgs India invented.
Other then these things India I would say is one of the most diverse and spiritual countries. In ancient India many philosophies were created such as early ...more
India was one of the two major ancient Asian civilizations, along with China. The city of Mohenjo Daro was one of the most innovative in ancient times, with plumbing and was comparable to the cities of the Fertile Crescent. Later on, Aryan migrations brought their beliefs, combining with traditional Indian religions. Two of the major world religions, Hinduism and Buddhism, were developed. Large empires such as the Maruyan and Gupta Empires were established. There were also achievements such as Arabic numerals, the understanding of zinc, better quality medicine, the works of Kalidasa, yoga, knowledge of orbits in the solar system, algebra, the oldest dam in the world, snakes and ladders, chess, stupas, and more.
I've done a good online research and came to the conclusion that Vedas are full of description of technology and other civilization which Scientists and Historians are still debating on. Be it a way of traveling between two planets or lost civilization of Atlantis, Vedas has some thing or other for each topic. Hence we can strongly imply that People of Ancient India were Guardians of this world. And not to forget, as per scientist Sanskrit is/was the most advanced language ever spoken which is also said to be the mother of other Greek languages.
Persians started the worlds first largest empire which was founded by morals. Persian kings did not believe in slavery and created the first declaration of human rights. They contributed so much to our world by creating the worlds first gardens, inventing wine, alcohol for medical use, and was the main influence for mediterranean food. They invented the kabob, birthday parties, the first monotheistic religion, the first feasts, domestication of horses, backgammon, their architectural influences spread to Europe, and etc. They have a history that dates back to almost 9, 000 years!
Persia is an important part of history, this civilization is one of the main reasons were as evolved in human rights and equality as we are. History isn't just the countries still existing, its about who and what has impacted our past and researching and acknowledging it. I can't believe more people voted for GEORGIA! they were probably just looking that it was American and that it made a lot of money, but what about culture, tradition and impact.Persia has made the human race better and if you just look around you, you can obviously just see its effect on us, without places like that we would be heartless caveman, do you really want that, GEORGIA (I don't like Georgia as you can tell).
The concept of loving the motherland in a multiracial country was started in Persia. Persian ancient patriot myths are outstanding. People from different ethnic groups who get together and scarify themselves for each other are seen in Persian stories. But regardless of these things, Persian poetry is outstanding. Just do some research about it...
No wonder Persia is at 7th place. They took dead, they had the bronze, not really and no brains. They took how many years to plan against the greeks? No that was a real empire, no wonder they are at number 2 which should be number 1. They were anything but civilized and Xerxes didn't know what he was doing. 500, 00 Persians against 300 spartans. The Persian army were a bunch of farmers with sword, they could have never won the Persian wars. They shouldn't even call it the Persian wars, the greeks won! The greeks fight till their last breath and the Persians only violently slaughtered them.
European disease practically wiped out all the grandeur of this highly civilized society which had not reached its peak when the Spaniard invaders destroyed it. Many criticize it for its practice of human sacrifice but the truth is most countries in Europe were killing more of their own people on a statistical level. Tenochtitlan was an enormous city that stunned the Europeans when they first saw it. It had public schools, universities, hospitals, a high level of social structure, education was free, it was bigger than any European city of its time. It was filled with botanical gardens none existing in Europe. Streets were clean unlike European cities with ankle deep sewage. Aztec poetry and philosophy was even more abundant than the better know Greek productions. It is also a myth that it was European superior technology that defeated the Mexica Empire. It was disease. 95 percent of the 80 million natives people of the Americas were wiped out in a few years after the arrival of the ...more
The Aztec empire had are among some of the most advanced native american civilizations they were particularly good in the fields of Architecture and Agriculture. Their capital city, Tenochtitlan, had a population of approximately 200,000 and was much cleaner and healthier than most European cities of the time. They also didn't have rivers of feces running through their streets like that of London.
Good but bad too. They invented canal system, I also heard that they used vanilla. But there are lots of cons of their's. What did they do? Used to rip of people's hearts. Why? Because they though so. Even their own people helped Cortés. So when people will disobey their own king and help forefingers? You can see how much hatred they had in them.
The Spanish conquistadors destroyed what could have become one of the most incredible empires of all time, actually they did that with a few, damn them classless conquistadors!
Just imagine how amazing central america could look today...
I like Greece. I have been there few years ago during the Christmas. It was really amazing there. Even though people were in winter clothes I was walking in only my suits. The air, the place, just amazing. And I have seen Acropolis. But for me, the place where it was built was more interesting than the temple itself. But my points is that they managed to do something that many great civilizations wanted to do but couldn't. Even though they have bad reputation but they contributed many things to human history. Also they left traces of their culture all over Eurasia. So I vote for Mongols and the Huns.
Although Mongols and Huns are considered by some to be barbaric without influential cultural artifacts etc. they should be considered VERY INFLUENTIAL in world history by the fact that they had huge impact on the forming of nowadays Great Nations (Such as China, Russia and so on. ) Also if we consider Military to be a achievement, the military of Mongols and Huns should be considered the "Tour de force" of Human kind.
And Yes they were mass killers, they threatened the So called Cultured civilizations
But it was what they did to survive with their land of harsh, the leftover lands of cold and hot. Seriously People been choosing to live in Hawaii rather than anchorage.
Under the rule of Attila the Hun the Barbarian group called the Huns could quickly sweep through towns in just a matter of minutes. Attila and the Huns conquered most of Europe and weakened Rome. Genghis Khan the ruler of the Mongols conquered more than twice as much land as Rome in only a few decades. Rome on the other hand took almost 1000 years to conquer only a fraction of the land the Mongols could.
Mongols is also called Mughals. They have done much to subcontinent. They learned much from the indians and spread it to the whole world such as the concept of zero(0). My favourite Mughal(mongol) emperor is AKBAR. He rule for 49 years! Shah jahan built the famous taj mahal. Do you know TAJ means CROWN and MAHAL means PALACE. TAJ MAHAL means CROWN PALACE. I know it because I am a pakistani. I speaak urdu. Taj mahal was named in hindi, and urdu and hindi are mostly the same.
A culturally rich empire because assimilated many cultures, their socioeconomically and political system was very developed making the Inca empire very organize for their time. In times where in other parts of world suffered from starvation, the Incas had food reserves for the bad times making their population virtually impervious to hunger or famine. They had a tax system called the "mita" which was a labor tax system. The Inca empire covered a very large geographical area, in fact the largest in the Americas and included countries such Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. They had a very develop system of canals and aqueducts that provided with irrigation and filtered water to their population. They probably were one of a very few develop ancient civilizations that did not communicate with writing (because they did not know it) but an alternative way to store communication called the "Quipus". Their constructions are (still standing) are out fo this world.
Often overlooked, as most of the empire was consumed by the jungle (which is a wonder, how did they cultivate and build in the harshest jungles in the world in the first place? ). We still have much to learn from them.
Great engineering advances. The intercommunication between their principal cities it's quite admirible even today. They could unite different cultures under one empire, and they had an interesting method for that.
Despite being several thousand years behind Spain in technology they managed to hold them off for quite a while even defeating the Spanish in several battles.
Small yet mighty, no warriors in history ever did or ever will outmatch the men of Sparta. Having trained since the age of seven, their military career ended either when they reached an old enough age that they could not fight too well (most likely their mid-sixties), or it simply ended when they died. In their daily lives, they took up no other work except being soldiers everything they did was geared towards warfare, even the music they listened too. They trained every day from when the sun rose in the East to when it set in the West, and the training was the harshest known to man to this day from he youngest of ages, the boys were beaten near to death, flogged to test endurance and in most cases were killed during training. Once training was complete (after some 15 years of none-stop surviving) only then would they be given citizenship. And then there's the legacy of Leonidas and the 300 at Thermopylae which has become legend, an almost unbelievable story of courage, duty and ...more
In Sparta, if a human did not seem fit to be a warrior or deformed they were thrown off a mountain. In Sparta you had to be perfect. These soldiers were almost invincible. The went through rigorous training women and men at a young age to prepare them to fight anything. Men, women, and children all had to be able to fight for their nation. At the battle of Thermopylae the Spartans were greatly outnumbered. The Persians fought with almost 100,000 men but there were only a few hundred Spartans. Though the Spartans lost, the Persians suffered great losses as well.
This is the most awesome civilization ever! Constantly striving for military excellence and their women enjoyed some of the best rights of any ancient civilization as well! I wish I could have seen what it was like!
This world was forged upon warfare, and who else to better represent the title "Best Ancient Civilization" than the greatest ancient military minded civilization? SPARTA
Ancient Macedonia was not Ancient Greece - it was hellenistic, or an imitation of Greek culture. Alexander the Great led the Macedonian empire, and was able to claim the largest empire in history, spanning from Greece, all the way to India. If Alexander's soldiers hadn't grown tired of war, and hadn't wanted to go back to their families, Alexander would probably have been able to conquer even more.
Ancient Greeks were Macedonians, not the other way. There should be people who has studyed history to tell everything right. Nobody can change the history! Everyone can predict anything, everyone can change said words, or tales, stories, but nobody, nobody can change the written evidence! Alexander the Great, was Macedonian, and, the greeks were Macedonians, except those who lived near Athens. You should read first, educate yourselves, than you shour dare yourself to speak about history!
There is no Ancient Macedonia as a civilization, there is Ancient Greece. Great Alexander was Macedonian his father Philip the second united all ancient Greek states to one. so Macedonian and sparta are parts from Greece
Under the rule of Alexander the Great the Macedonians were able to conquer the greatest empire of their time, The Persians. It also took them very little time to conquer so much land.
The birth place of the oldest hero in history, Gilgamesh. Honestly, it's the best civilization in history. They were the first to invent lots of important things which proved how smart and amazing people they were, such as the wheel, the chariot, the sailboat, the time, the map, writing, mathematics and, astronomy and astrology. It's really overwhelming to stand next to Ishtar gate and think it was built by the very hands of those creative people. It really deserves the name of The Cradle of Civilization.
Babylonia was nothing compared to the Persian empires. Cyrus the great king of Persia was named the king of babylonia by the people. after he took charge of the city he freed the slaves and didn't kill even one civilian he didn't even kill the king.
In no way should the Babylonian empire be ranked higher than Persian. Persian ruled over this country for 1700 years and you'll find that babylonia developed richer during this 1700 years
Absolutely most influential. Babylonian ideals developed our western religions, philosophies, stories, science, etc. The Greeks were indebted to them, as Alexander noted.
When ruled by Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylonians conquered most of the nations in their region. One of them were the one invincible Assyrians. The Babylonians were rulers of a very hard to control region.
Latest lydar maps show the Mayan world probably had upwards of 20 million people and an agricultural capability rivaling what California produces today. They Mayans were not a city state but a megalopolis connected by causeways and canals. Couple this with the language, art, math and astronomy and the Mayans belong with the Chinese, Egyptians, etc. Amazing stuff really.
Mayans, a civilization wiped out so swiftly by the savage europeans before they could prove how impressive their work has been on civil engineering, mathematics, astronomy, agriculture. Mayans with their great cities and histories were wiped out and it's achievements, culture and ancient past completely forgotten and obliterated.
They may have told the end of the world also they were very smart civilization it basically came up with math they also lasted for a long time I don't know how long but they stayed a civilization for a long time.
Uber rich and were very smart. They had a calendar that worked until a year ago!
Turks have established 18 empires throughout their history, have conquered all of the known world, and the west has had to make up alternative narratives to curtail Turkish nationalism from reemerging in its greatness and dominating Middle East and Europe in the 20th century. The most significant legacy in most of Central Asia, Black Sea and Eastern Europe is of Turkish origin. The world has never known more powerful and benevolent conquerors than the Turks, and the Turks will soon rise again in their ferocious glory.
Turkeys wherever they went the only thing they did was kill and slaughter. They slaughtered way too many Armenians and stole way too much land from the Greeks. In 1453 they got Constantinoupoli today known as Instabul and the rest of Greece. 400 years passed and they were still ruling Greece. Turkish stole Greek children and trained them to kill their parents. In 1821 Greeks had a revolution and won the Turks. And Greece had some land but not all. Turks still had Constantinoupoli and other lands from Asia that belonged to the Greeks from Ancient times because their civilization rose there like Smirni for example ( now known as Smirn I think). Greeks never got all their lands back. Smirni went back to the Greeks again but in 1922 Thrks slaughter every single Greek that lived there for revenge for getting that land back. And in 1974 Turks invaded Cyprus (an independent country but all Cypriots are Greeks, Cyprus is an independent Greek island) and occupied 37% of the land. So Turks in ...more
To conquer other countries, appropriation of other cultures and history, destruction of other nations can not be proud of the nation, which claims to be civilized.
The oldest and continuously inhabited land in history.
Often, multiple empires/kingdoms co-reigned,
Land of most spoken languages of all times.
Traces of various levels of civilization over 10.000 years,
The spot of most desired land in history and even today!
And, even today 16 languages are spoken!
Wow so surprised that Japan is so high ranked even more than Korea.
You've got all your cultures from them don't you? You've got no cultures at all before Korea brought for you. You had no proper clothes (That's why Kimono is not even sewed properly), no china... How come you can say you have "culture"?
All your culture you think that is "Japanese" are actually from China or Korea.
Even Sashimi. Korean started to eat them first. You guys are just good at fudging people.
The Japan are a ancient country with great buildings and innovation, such the ironclad, and, in have a great population in a little land, even in the XI/XII century the Japan have most peoples than the all Europe countries, and have a impressive urbanism in the greats cities, such Edo. The japanese people have the Murasaki Shikibu, she is the most ancient literatury book writer, have write the Genji Monagatari, the more old romance in the world.
Japan should be higher on the list because it has more to offer. I literally looked up how is Japan the most influential civilization and this appears and what does Japan get, NUMBER 9! I think it should at least be in the top 5. So reconsider what you have done. :T
Not very well known because of its cut-off trade system, but filled with knowledge, logic, and brilliant ideas. There were emperors, samurais and geishas. Fantastic paintings and art were created.
Vikings led fleets of longships throughout Europe in a campaign to invade and ransack other civilizations to obtain there resources. The vikings also discovered America before any other easterners, but due to lack of resources and personnel, left it and returned home. People may think of vikings as mindless savages, but in reality, their civilizations produced an enormous change in technology, seafaring abilities, and many other advancements.
The Norse civilization should be number 1. The Norse people were Germanic people who settled in Scandinavia they had to live in one of the hardest places to farm and back then if you had a poor crop harvest you would starve but they got past that by raiding and trading with other European settlements to get food. The Vikings were also very good explorers and sailors being the first Europeans to discover Greenland and Canada. The Vikings could also navigate with the using the stars. Also The Viking's civilization never fell like Greece, Egypt and Times did they just stopped being Vikings when they were converted into Christians.
Vikings lived in one of the most unforgiving lands but still, they did not only survived through fishing farming and hunting, Vikings traded as well. Medieval Scandinavians established trade with a big chunk of the known (and unknown)world . This people were very good at fighting both, individually and in a warband or an ar my. t hey relied on ingenious yet simple tactics often, contrived for the occasion.
Women enjoyed rights and, the possibility of becoming jarls, the highest position in old Scandinavian society. Slaves could become free if they were respected among the free or if their master choose so. f or this reasons, Vikings should be considered important for us modern humans.
All hail the Nordic Vikings. They fight for Odin with no mercy. Vikings are known for experience in combat, taking down numerous enemies, and discovering the New World (eat that Columbus! )
One thing that probably made the Assyrians so great at fighting was their philosophy that if they ever lost a battle their empire would crumble and end. The Assyrians seemed invincible and conquered the entire region. The Assyrians were able to strike fear Into the hearts of their enemies. The Assyrians were also one of the most brutal peoples.
I'm learning about the Assyrian Empire in school. The Assyrians used ziggurats to worship their gods and held religious ceremonies to make food sacrifices. Note- they did not make human sacrifices- that's good!
For there time the Assyrians had some of the most powerful weapons in the world. The Assyrians were the first people in ancient mesopotamia to use Iron which allowed them to ruthlessly steamroll over just about everyone in there way.
The Assyrians were the first known super power. They were really advanced in warfare.
Indus valley most advanced of old civilizations. I daresay better than Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Chinese, Turks, Japan, Tibet, Mongols, and even the bloody Romans. I think it is even superior to 17th century and 18th century England (Indus Valley had toilets). It should be a civilization to be remembered for all time and history.
The Indus Valley was extremely advanced with their water and sewer systems. They learned to trap the water every year during the flood and use it all year for drinking water and to water crops. They mysteriously disappeared and still no one knows what happened to them. Pretty cool.
I love this civilization. It was one of greatest civilized place.
The Indust valley was one of the great ancient civilizations.
The Songhai Empire was one of the largest in history. Its bureaucracy was the most advanced in the Middle Ages. By the 14th century, most of Europe and Asia did not even have prisons. Songhai had professional prisons, courts, lawyers and arguably the more organized system of criminal justice at that time.
Songhai Empire could possibly have even be better than Mali. They had complex urbanization, complex security surveillance and also impressive knowledge for education. When they took over the Mali Empire, they inherited a large collection of book knowledge which could possibly have been half a billion or even more. Knowledge from aphrodisiac to space and time is well documented.
