Top 10 Worst Songs of the 1970s

The Top Ten

1 Disco Duck - Rick Dees

Yes this was bad but so ridiculous it was funny. I was 15 when this song came out in 76' so I very much remember 70's music from 70 -79 and I must say that people my age or older are not putting some of these songs on here that make no sense on this list. Heart, Black Sabbath, Eagles, Blondie, etc.. Even Phoebe Snow. These artist are far better than any of today. Yes disco duck and the Village People should comprise this list but many of the others are just disrespectful. If children are placing songs and artists on this list what do you know of the 70's and how could you vote on a decade you have no clue about. You may listen to a song now but you have no connection to it. They are not your songs to even discuss on a list. What do you know about a time period you where not even thought of. Awful list! Toss it in the trash and forget it!

Who put all those heart songs on here?

Stupid and unoriginal failure of a song.

2 Macho Man - Village People

I love this on so many levels, but I especially like the outfit theme. Still do. And I'm a heterosexual female.

3 Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd

This is actually a very good song. - Userguy44

What is this song doing on this list? This should be on "Best Songs of the 70s".

This song rocks! What are you talking about?

Hey, this song is pretty darn Good! In fact, I think it is a great Song! So please take this off the List!

4 Cool for Cats - Squeeze

I love Squeeze, but this sucks.

5 Born to Be Alive - Patrick Hernandez

The ultimate example of one-of-those-songs you cannot get out of your head for DAYS after hearing it. Atrocious, musical waterboarding.

6 Y.M.C.A. - Village People

Hate it but love it at the same time...

When I was in 4th grade they played this song in the school dance and it was obnoxious and too catchy. Only teachers and the DJ were dancing while students where covering there ears. when the song was over that song was stuck in my head to this day. don't listen to sample.

This song is great! Why is it on this list?

Extremely overrated, obnoxious, and useless.Y.M.C. A is the worst song of the seventies.

7 Sunday Girl - Blondie

What has this world come to? Why is the LAST SINGLE from the phenomenal Parallel Lines on here?

You're kidding me right?!?

8 Iron Man - Ozzy Osbourne

... But this was by Black Sabbath, not when Ozzy was in his solo career. I can't take this list even remotely seriously...

9 Mamma Mia - ABBA
10 Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - Black Sabbath

The Contenders

11 Like a Hurricane - Neil Young
12 Take Me, I'm Yours - Squeeze

Utter crap. Pathetic excuse for rock and roll! How the hell did anyone think this was good?! It sounds like it was played with a toilet plunger and two rusty dustbin lids!

13 Bemba Colora - Celia Cruz
14 Love to Love You Baby - Donna Summer

She and this song is not rock as everyone knows. The 70's did have many other genres of music and this song is by no way one of the worst. I went through my teen years in the mid 70's. I enjoyed may different genres of music during the decade. What's up with this list? Oh, It sucks! It smells of little kiddies! Donna Summer, Heart, Eagles, Clapton and most of this list. List BE Gone!

15 Afternoon Delight - Starland Vocal Band

David Hicks said it best:
"People should never sing about sex while using their Jesus voices."

16 Thrasher - Neil Young
17 Puppy Love - Donny Osmond

Young girls of the 70s could disagree?

18 Paranoid - Black Sabbath

Guys are you even serious?! Paranoid, Iron Man, Layla, and Barracuda are the greatest songs of the decade. READ THE TITLE. Your not voting for your favorite song! And by the way, Iron Man is a Black Sabbath song so the poster of this list is just a troll, and especially because of the songs on here. This list needs to be deleted ASAP

This is a great song. Why is this even on here.

This is the best song of pre 1990... This list is mentally retarded.

This song is great who made this list most songs are good - themaster09

19 Good Year for the Roses - Elvis Costello
20 I Saw the Light - Todd Rundgren
21 Me and You and a Dog Named Boo - Lobo
22 Lovin' You - Minnie Riperton

Her voice is one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard. It's like one of the squeakers from Xbox Live decided to write a terrible love song.

It was a toss-up between this one and Afternoon Delight. This song only served to add more torment to my younger years.

Her voice is scary

23 It Started With a Kiss - Hot Chocolate

This song is from the 80's, NOT 70's. So it doesn't count. And in my opinion, I think this is actually a decent song.

24 Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

Why is this here? - Userguy44

The single greatest blues song of Al Time. The authors of this list are on crack.

wrong list - ChefSkinner

25 Layla - Derek & the Dominos
26 Barracuda - Heart

The Heart that deserves to get ragged on more is the incarnation where Ann Wilson gained weight like a madman and they released garbage like "All I Wanna Do is Make Love to You". That, and the one that gave us "This Man is Mine", a forgotten atrocity of the '80s.

This song is good. Just because a singer is fat doesn't mean they are bad. I would rather take this over the overrated (but still good) hits from Lyrnyrd Skynyrd and Queen. - Swellow

Quite a few heart songs in here,
GOOD, they suck more than a giant vacuum cleaner - GlonnAtronnAdonnAdict

Oh my! This is just so wrong----- Like this list!

27 Hotel California - The Eagles

Wait... this list is the worst of the 70s, right? If this is the worst of the 70s, than whoever made this list is a retard. This is a kick ass song. If you're gonna make a list of the worst of the 70s, actually put the worst of the 70s on here.

Actually this song doesn't kick ass at all. It's more like a limp slap in the face with a wet lettuce.

Even if this song is overplayed by now does not make it a worst song of the 70's. Maybe on an overplayed list of songs. If they play it so much now in this decade it in no way can one of the worst or it would have fallen by the wayside by now. If you don't want to hear it change stations. It will always be excellent for future generations to come! Come to grips with it!

My local radio station plays this song ad nauseam.

I'm not even going to scroll any further in the list. Whoever made this list is probably some One Direction or R5 fanass who hates that the music of the 70s is more popular than their autotuned crap. - therootbeer

28 I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor

What is wrong with you people? Hotel California, Sweet Home Alabama, I Shot the Sheriff and Iron Man should be no where near this list you idiots!

But this song is great! You deaf people

No it is the best

29 Kick It Out - Heart
30 Crazy on You - Heart

What? Hello, why is this here? Little children what do they know about anything 70's anyway!

31 War Pigs - Black Sabbath

OKAY REALLY NO THIS MAKES NO SENSE THIS SONG IS GOOD THIS SONG IS GREAT, THE VOLCALS, DRUMS, GUITAR, EVERY PEICE OF THIS SONG IS AMAZING ITS EXITING AND CLIMACTIC WHATS WRONG WITH THIS LIST (okay I just realized the end is a little long and Boring but come on that doesn't make it the worst song of the 70s)

What! Why is this on here this is the best black sabbath song I ever heard whoever made this list sucks some of these songs are awesome and at the top I'm MAAD

32 My Sharona - The Knack

Yall was just jealous cause disco was getting way more popular than that crap yall call rock

The true reason disco finally died. Thanks, Knack.

33 Dancin' Fool - Frank Zappa
34 Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? - Rod Stewart

I don't know This Song But I Just Needed To Get My Opinion Out There That Most Of These Songs Are Really Great

Rod Stewart betrayed us all. What the hell happened to "Maggie May"?

35 Pirate Ships - Wendy Waldman
36 When You're In Love With a Beautiful Woman - Dr. Hook
37 I Shot the Sheriff - Eric Clapton

Tepid, cringe-inducing cover of a great reggae song. Man, I've never understood Clapton. The guy is completely lacking in soul. This is an insult to good music.

Most of the songs on this list are actually pretty good!

38 Poetry Man - Phoebe Snow

Is someone nuts! Who put this here? You certainly are no poet, that's for sure, or a song writer.

39 Love is the Answer - Utopia
40 Walk This Way - Aerosmith

You’re kidding me right? - Userguy44

41 Dog & Butterfly - Heart

Excuse me! This soft rock song from this group is much, much, better than anything even heard past the 90's and during the 70's this group had many staple songs for us in the 70's. Who put them and any of their songs on this list? This list is in poor taste. Eagles, Black Sabbath, Blondie, Aerosmith, etc. Disgraceful!

42 Straight On - Heart
43 Dancing Queen - Abba

How is this so low. It's TERRIBLE!. I admit it's catchy, but seriously how is it this low.

I really love ABBA, but I've never understood the appeal of this.. by far the most annoying, boring ABBA song. - tommydeath

Really, anything by ABBA

44 Mistral Wind - Heart
45 Seasons In the Sun - Terry Jacks

How can this prime '70s death horror not be on here, yet approx, 4,838 pre-Capitol Heart songs can?!

46 Imagine - John Lennon

Overrated and overplayed doesn’t mean bad. This is a great song. - Userguy44

May be overplayed by this time, but a worst song of the 70's? Just pure rubbish!

47 Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin

Very overrated, but far from being bad in my opinion. - Userguy44

Many, many, and even more people don't agree with what you think!

This and about every other led Zeppelin song

I hate this song - tyefbhjebkffh

48 Black Betty - Ram Jam

I like it. - Userguy44

49 Hold the Line - Toto

What’s wrong with this list? This song is very well appreciated. - Userguy44

What? Not the best song of the 70's but not even close to one of the worst songs of that decade. This whole list for the most part has problems! Most of the songs are good. I shall not be returning to this list. Null and void!

This song isn't even bad. It's just as good as their more popular hit Africa. - Swellow

50 You Light Up My Life - Debby Boone

Hate on this, not Squeeze or Blondie or whatever.
