The Top Ten
1 Pastor Nick Pastor Nick is a secondary character in the anime and manga series "Attack on Titan," created by Hajime Isayama. He is a religious leader within the Walls, fervently devoted to the Church of the Walls. Nick is initially secretive, unwilling to share the Church's hidden knowledge even when lives are at stake. As the series progresses, his character undergoes significant changes, forcing him to confront... read more

I thought he was a pastor not a murderer! He deserved to die a long time ago!

Can't he see that because of him people are dying?! I don't know if this secret he has been keeping is worth all the souls that have been lost and I know that it is NOT worth it!

"He speaks like a brainless bastard. He claims that everything he does is based on the religion. He claims that the titans are devils, but he refuses to speak about any evidence when Hanji Zoe confronted her about a titan inside the walls."

I'm so glad that he died. Pfft serves him right. Go away moron. Nobody is in interested in your religious talks in the courtroom. (No offense to any kind of religion)

2 Eren Yeager Eren Yeager, spelled Eren Jaeger in the Funimation dub, is a fictional character appearing as the protagonist from the manga series Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama.

People hate Eren for being a whiny arrogant kid who doesn't get over his mother's death like seriously? Why wouldn't they put themselves in his shoes and try to imagine at least once how would they feel if their mother gets eaten by a titan (in the manga she got crushed entirely before getting eaten). I think he's pretty relatable and a protagonist who doesn't always wins fights. I don't get those people hating on Eren, he's just an average person given the weight of the world on his shoulders. He doesn't have to be badass, he doesn't have to be calm and collected.

He is already special, because he was born into this world.

Many fans hate him because he's annoying and whiny, and sometimes always said he wanted to kill himself, or because he was too rude to Mikasa. Yes, his attitude is annoying, but, don't forget. He still cares, friendly, and has many friends besides Armin and Mikasa. In fact, he desperately wants to save them all, including the Eldians from the threat of Titan and will fight the real enemy. And about his attitude to Mikasa, in fact he still cares and loves her, but with different levels. He realized he's a man, who should protect a woman, as his mother had said. And he's also mad that Mikasa is always protective and always wants to be close to him, so he does.

3 Historia Reiss

Maybe she is Mary Sue but she has gotten much more character development than anyone else. She was playing nice because she wanted to be liked and accepted. If you were despised by your own parents and people around then you would probably feel the same - you would like to be accepted. Later - thanks to Ymir and Eren - she shown her real self. She was a brave girl who told Eren to fight and scolded him when was needed. She wasn't like Mikasa who - instead of fighting - decided to give up and confess to Eren. Historia was fighting for her freedom and ordered Eren to fight as well. Historia isn't bratty or selfish - she is a smart, brave and sensitive girl who can understand pain of others.

Mary Sue through and through. People admiring and supporting her wherever she goes, calls her 'megami/goddess', has royal blood, is kind and sweet, is caring and supportive, is generous and nice, and even becomes a queen. What are her flaws exactly? She gets called a Cattle Farming Goddess lovingly by people in the walls, is respected blah blah blah. She gets developed, yes, but add some flaws to her character so that she actually looks quite likable.

Typical Mary Sue with a dark past, and people hate Eren?

4 Mikasa Ackerman Mikasa Ackerman is a fictional character in the manga and anime series Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese, created by Hajime Isayama. She accompanies the main protagonist Eren Jaeger. Her most notable feature is the red scarf that she wears. She is one of the most strongest characters in the Attack on Titan franchise.

There's no justifiable reason to hate on Mikasa. It's her life, and her decisions to whom to attach to, and whom to not. Personally, I think her attachment to Eren gives her more character and makes her more human, than just being a titan killing machine present there to be silent all the time. She has got a pretty well reason to be overprotective of Eren, she is standing there all entirely because of Eren anyways. Mikasa is a total badass, and a person that has control on her emotions, well one exception is when Eren or Armin's life is in danger.
She is a very balanced character, and that's why I like her. She isn't a Mary Sue, she isn't a very bad character either. She is a badass character with visible flaws, and I like that quality of hers.

At first, Mikasa seemed like an okay character to me. However, as the series progressed, I began to dislike her so much up to a point where I was pretty close to hating her. I understand that she is trying to protect Eren, but sometimes, she simply mollycoddles him at unnecessary moments, as if he needs to go to the bathroom with her help. Plus, I don't like how she nearly gets all yandere when Eren interacts with other girls and women. Evidence of this behavior is when she seems to get mad at Annie for hanging out with Eren during their training days. Plus, there was this moment in the manga where Eren and Historia/Christa were simply having a friendly conversation, and she looks pissed (just a little). In conclusion, I'm not Mikasa's biggest fan. Heck, I'm just not a fan.

5 Annie Leonhart Annie Leonhart is a fictional character in the manga and anime series Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese, created by Hajime Isayama.

"Traitor because she has daddy issues"? More like traitor due to a life obligation to do her job with absolutely no choice in the matter. She was raised for it and had no other option. She simply did her job.

If she ever gets out of her crystallized state, I hope she realizes that what she felt was right was actually wrong! That would be the only redemption for her character!

She had a choice... she choose to kill many of the innocent just because she had depression. If it were not for her choice she could have probably lived a happy -ish life and move on from her daddy issues. Yes annie would still be cold but at least not killing hundreds that treasure there lives. Love or hate her she is a traitor.

6 Dazz

This bastard is 7th? WHY IS ANNIE 1st? I am not shipping Annie, nor she is my favourite, but this...

What did Daz do? I mean, who wouldn't be scared when there's human eating Titans?

Can he just get eaten already? nvm, if I was a titan I wouldn't eat him, he would probably taste awful.

7 Hitch Dreyse Hitch Dreyse is a fictional character in the manga and anime series Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese, created by Hajime Isayama.

Wow, Hitch...I don't know what to say. She goes out of her way to drive her comrades insane. Probably not good for them. This isn't why she doesn't have any friends other than Marlo. No one else wants to hang out with her. With good reason too. I wonder why Marlo is still her friend.

She just sucks. I don't even know what importance she has to the plot anyways. Her friend Marlo is better, though. At least he isn't lazy like her and he actually wants to do something about the Military Police.

Every time I see her, I want to throw an angry cat at her face and let her get scratched to oblivion, because face it, she should definitely be forgotten and left for oblivion.

8 Alma Reiss

She is an idiot who deserved to die for treating her daughter like trash and garbage!
If she didn't die this show would have been ruined. What a terrible and horrible mother!
I hate her a lot. She thinks she is the best, but she is the worst!

Worst mother. Glad that she died. If I were Historia, I would've stabbed her from the back in her stomach.

She was cold and cruel to her daughter. It was very satisfying to see her die in the manga.

9 Kitz Weilman

This is an insecure idiot captain. I wish that a Titan would just...come out of nowhere and kill him already dammit! He has NO respect or care for anyone else, clearly!

Anyone dumb enough to order the execution of what in reality would be humanity's best chance at survival most definitely deserves a high spot on this list.

This is that annoying captain from Garrison who wanted to shoot eren
after he turns out to be a titan. No one in attack on titan has ever
bothered me except him.

10 Reiner Braun

I seriously had to press vote to comment. Now that Season Four is out, I just want to say, he is one of the best-written characters in AoT. He killed Marco because he had to, he's a warrior and he can't fail his job. Also, like him or not, his betrayal h=is seriously one of the best scenes in AoT, and I cannot stress how good the voice acting and OST is.

Now, to talk about him in Season Four. He is shown to regret his actions, and even Eren himself acknowledges that Reiner had no choice but to do what he was doing.

I really hated him first when I knewvrhat he is the armortitan. but if you read the manga and know his story and why he became a warrior maybe you will change your opinion. I'm not saying that I like him or something

Hate this guy, no matter what orders you are given, mass murder can never be forgiven.

The Contenders
11 Hanji Zoe

She's so adorable and badass! Best of all, her personality changes completely the more you dive into the anime. Where she starts off hyperactive and bubbly, she eventually becomes more calm, level-headed and aware that human lives are more important than the lives of Titans. Heck, she even has a scary side to her. When she tortures people, she doesn't hold back. And she doesn't even do it in her bubbly personality. No, she becomes darker and has a death glare at you when torturing you. This is why I love her. She shouldn't be in this list.

Despite wanting to look at a different point of view, she needs still realize those titans want to eat humans as much as her. It's like thinking a bear likes you, and when you go to the bear you get gobbled and your mushed organs are pooped out. Titans tried to do the same to Hanji Zoe.

I absolutely love Hanji, and her obsession with studying titans is great, it gives her a personality. Her studies might actually help defeating the titans. I don't get it why people would hate her...

12 Sasha Braus

Sasha may be funny but I really hate her idiocy and clumsiness, like there's a scene in AoT, where a Titan is eating the child's grandma/mom (I dunno but that's not my point) she could've helped the mom escape albeit wounded together with the child. She already got the chance to chop the Titan with the axe, she could've tried her best but damn she was a coward. I really hate her so much she's best deserved to die than Mike. At least Mike was useful unlike her.

She's mostly used for just comic relief and can be really useful if only the anime series gave her more screen time. Hopefully she gets more screen time in Season 2 and becomes more important.

She is so useless in my opinion, but she adds homur to the show, which is great, because it is needed sometimes. Other than that there's nothing to her character...

13 Petra Ral Petra Ral is a fictional character in the manga and anime series Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese, created by Hajime Isayama.

This girl is TOO OVERRATED! Just had a cute face and act like she's nice, but actually not. Treating Oluo like craps, not listening to Levi when he said calm down, disrespect Eren's choice and all the soldiers get killed because of her damn, stupid mouth. Who the heck does she think she is to telling my Eren to trust her? Does she trust him? No! Act like she's a goddess to get people to like her. Honestly, AOT doesn't need a worst character like her, just Gunther, Eld, and Oluo is enough. Seeing her face disgust me every time.

She's so annoying to be honest. Not only she forced a Eren to trust her, Levi's squad died because of her own mouth. If she let Eren transform into a Titan, he may saved all of them. And yet because of her mouth keep yelling:"Trust us", Eren have to feel regret for her own damn sake. Seriously, who does she think she is? People care about her only that's because of her looks, nothing more. Sounds like she used her damn face to get more fans, worst female character ever.

14 Conny Springer

Just became an airhead in the Junior High spin-off. He was likeable in the main anime series, but the Junior High series ruined his character. It's almost like deja vu with Robin from Teen Titans Go! if anyone needs to know. Likeable character in the anime series, total dummy in the Junior High series.

He is a fun character, not the best, but definitely not the worst. I wish he would be more developed though...

Why connie he is my favorite character what did he do?

15 Levi Ackerman Levi Ackerman is a fictional character in the manga and anime series Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese, created by Hajime Isayama. He accompanies the main protagonists in the second half of season 1. His most notable feature is being "Humanity's strongest".

Sigh. Yet another great character who doesn't deserve to be on this list. Levi is one of the best characters in the show, if not THE best he's my personal favorite, though, so maybe that makes me bias .

Let's clear something up right now. Levi is NOT emotionless. He is, however, EXPRESSIONLESS. There's a difference. Some people think he doesn't care about his comrades, and that's why he didn't cry when his squad died, but just because he doesn't collapse into a heap of tears and emotions every times a comrade dies doesn't mean he's not hurting inside. If he did that, he would've gone crazy ages ago.

And when you think about it, Levi needs to stay strong for those around him. His alias is 'Humanity's Strongest Soldier.' And Humanity's Strongest should be, well, strong. If people saw someone like him crying and breaking down, they would start to lose hope. So he manages to stay calm and collected FOR THEM.

Strength isn't just physical. It's emotional too. And Levi has more emotional strength than anyone else in the whole show. He's endured so much more than anyone, yet still manages to remain brave. That's why I love him so much.

Isayama created a very deep, complex character who doesn't show his emotions on his face, but through his actions. It's very subtle, but it's there. You just have to LOOK.

Sorry this is so long. I'm just really passionate about this. But rant is over.

And oh yeah, RIREN FOREVER

Jaedyn out

16 Nanaba

So damn annoying she acts like a boss and a veteran when she's not any of them!
Enough! Stop adding her to the vets and people don't ship her with mike anymore so stop all this stupid fanarts take them down it's so disgusting and pathetic!

She's so annoying, she is not a veteran or a squad leader and she acts like it.
And I hate the way she always tries to get close to Mike I mean give it up if he doesn't reply to you just stop it.
And she has no right to give orders to anybody she is just a normal solider. And by the way Mike said Gelgar to take charge of the southern squad not her 😕

Who was this chick again?

17 Armin Arlert Armin Arlert is a fictional character in the manga and anime series Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese, created by Hajime Isayama. He accompanies the Protagonist Eren Jaeger. He is mostly known for his smart and quick witted mind. His notable feature is wanting to explore the world outside the walls.

I wonder if it's because of his awful English voice actor. I personally love Armin the most out of the Shinganshina Trio. He was terrified in his first battle against the Titans, even feeling like dying instead of being eaten alive. However, he eventually becomes more brave, smart and an excellent soldier that could eventually hold his own. While Eren became more a more ruthless and loathsome villain, Armin started to become the series' TRUE main protagonist.

Armin really shouldn't be on this list. Unlike Mikasa, he's had proper character development and unlike Eren, he's a likable character.

OK. Armin is said to be weak. Like the time he saw his best friend get eaten. but answer this...If you saw your friend dying? What would you do? Weather it be attack the attacker or freeze on the spot, We are human. We all have our ways of dealing with different situations. And that doesn't even compare to the times he has done or came up with something amazing!
-Telling the bullies that they were beating him up because can't prove him wrong
-Shooting the titans eyes
-Convincing the people that Eren was not a threat
-Figuring out that Annie was the female titan
That's not even all! Armin is not a bad character and will never be.

18 Auruo Brossard

I don't really like Ouro, but you have to think about how he still felt determined to avenge Gunther, Petra, and Eld. While flawed, he's a fairly good character.

He's so annoying!

I glad he died

19 Gabi

She's not like Eren at all. Eren hated mindless monsters who ate his mother. Gabi hates a race of people who live on an island and haven't bothered anybody for decades. She has way too much fun in killing people like when she was fighting in a way for Marley and pretended to be wounded and killed the enemy soldier. She's psychopatic. She enjoys killing people while Eren only wanted to kill monsters. She keeps calling Eldians devils even after spending time with them. The chapters which focused on her were unbearable. I hope she dies a horrible death but Isayama keeps dragging the plot to focus on this psycho.

Personally, I dislike her character. She's very gloaty and I don't think her cause is justified. For example, people hate on Eren for being too annoying and angry all the time, claiming he's gonna kill all the titans, but he just wants to avenge his mother. Gabi, on the other hand, just does it because she can. No one is forcing her to do it, she chose to become a warrior. In the latest chapter, when she and Falco are talking to the girl who Sasha had rescued in the past, she just keeps up making excuses why the Eldians are bad people and why they the Paradisians are the good guys. I dunno it just really pissed me off. Plus, this is a personal reason but that stupid kid *Spoiler*... killed Sasha. I know a lot of people disliked Sasha, but she was one of my favorite characters, and it sucked for me when she died. Yes, I understand Gabi shot her because Sasha had killed one of her friends (if I'm not mistaken? ) but I just my hate for her just grew when she killed her. But that's just my personal opinion, it's okay if you like Gabi, I won't hate on you, just don't hate on me in return. Thanks!

20 Jean Kirschstein Jean Kirstein is a character from the manga and anime series Attack on Titan, created by Hajime Isayama. Initially, Jean is self-interested and dreams of a safe and comfortable life within the walls. He undergoes substantial character development, evolving into a more altruistic and capable leader. As the series progresses, he becomes an essential member of the Scout Regiment, committed to the fight... read more

The person who puts him on this list is really stupid. To me, yes, he's annoying, and some hate him because he has a crush on Mikasa and is considered to be bothering Eren and Mikasa relationship, but, don't forget, there are advantages that make it superior and should not be on this list. And I think, he deserve Mikasa. And, this character in my opinion includes characters that have the best character development. Initially, yes he only cares about himself, but, Marco's death gives him a very strong impact. He joins Survey Corps, lives to save his comrades and mankind, and to me that's good.

I don't like him. He is so... plain. I feel like he got no development and his only role was fighting Eren. Honestly, I even don't remember why Jean decided to be a jerk to Eren. Feels like Isayama needed someone to be typical, stereotypical dude who has a love/hate relationship with the mc. Also, I feel he is pretty shallow about women; he had a crush on Mikasa because she was pretty. Ok. But that was the only reason. He even didn't try to meet her better. The same with Krista.
In other words: boring.

21 Ymir

Stupidest character ever. Could've easily saved so many lives by simply telling those within the walls about Marley and using her titan to get back at the people who made her life terrible. Instead she becomes a street rat and gives the Jaw titan back to Marley. Seriously pathetic.

She is super duper ugly and gay!
I hate her so much!
I also hate how she likes Historia Romantically. Disgusting idiot loser (Ymir)!

This is the only character besides pastor Nick that I with a burning passion hate.

22 Krista Lenz/Historia Reiss

What a Mary Sue. It gets annoying how now that she's queen, everyone is obsessed with her. People worship her for her "beauty and kindness" and all that. It's disgusting.

Just an all around Mary Sue. We get it. You are gorgeous, pretty, and everyone likes you and is obsessed with you.

23 Floch Forster

Him and zeke should be tied at first place.

He is super annoying

Hate his attitude

24 Erwin Smith Erwin Smith is a fictional character in the manga and anime series Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese, created by Hajime Isayama.

First of all I would just like to say is that don't a character by their looks and personality. Judge them by their behaviour and the decisions they take. Erwin pretty much is an important character in the show and he has a very good point as to why he does this. And oh, don't get me started on how he killed Isabel and Farlan. Isabel and Farlan died because of Levi's idiocy. It was Levi who had left them in the mercy of the Titans. Had he not abandoned his friends, then they would have been alive today. "Those who break the rules are scum but those who abandon their comrades are worse than scum." I'm of course not calling Levi scum but seriously please read the ACWNR manga and then blame whose fault it is. And what's wrong with his eyebrows? Please leave his eyebrows alone. They are nothing compared to Rock Lee or Gai-sensei's from Naruto.

The only reason I would hate this character is because: 'SPOILER' he was the main reason Isabel and Farlan died, and when he said 'how pathetic' to their death, which was really disrespectful, even though Levi almost killed him for that afterwards. But overall Erwin is a great character, he of course has his flaws.

25 Keith Shadis

Alright, y'all, I don't know how or why you guys hate Shardis. That's just his job to insult cadets and bring them down! So they could work harder! The military ain't a piece of cake! Have you guys not listened to those guys that were walking past the cadets on the first day?! They said they're supposed to turn them into some sort of a blank slate, and from there, they could mold them into proper soldiers (at least, that's what I've heard). They have to get used to hearing this so they could follow orders without hesitation. So, for that reason, is why no one should hate Shardis for being rude to the trainees.

If you're caught up with manga you'll have a good understanding of his character, for better or for worse. I mean, honestly, people are judging him based off of how he is supposed to act for his job. He needs to whip them into shape, which means degradation. However, this is only to weed out the weak. he has to be critical of them because their lives are in his hands. Even based off the little you see of him first season, you can tell he respects the cadets. Unless you've read recent chapters all you see is this one-dimensional side of him. He is a good person with flaws which means he's a realistic character. He didn't make a good commander because honestly, he is too gentle a person for the job.
