Top 10 Worst Disney Protagonists

There are great Disney characters out there, but there are also some bad Disney characters. Even some bad Disney lead characters. So let’s discuss the worst protagonists from Disney movies.

The Top Ten

1 Ariel (The Little Mermaid) Princess Ariel is a fictional character and the title character of Walt Disney Pictures' 28th animated film The Little Mermaid.

Ariel is a very attractive Nordic female. What semi-attractive male doesn't dream of participating in sexual activity with her? - Braxterverse

Right. ARIEL IS clearly the worst protagonist of all time.
She's a rebellious teenagers.
She made a deal with the devil.
She's retarded.
She's just bad all together.

These reasons are dumb - TwilightKitsune

I haven’t said this enough times. I really hate Ariel. She’s a terrible character. One of the worst Disney characters ever. Easily the worst Disney princess ever. What exactly is she trying to teach little girls? That it’s okay to disobey your father, make a deal with an untrustworthy individual, and leave your family behind just to go out with a guy you know nothing about? I like that she’s very curious about the human world and that she wants to learn more about it, but the things she goes through to make it happen are just very unforgivable! Ursula didn’t try to trick her or anything. She made it clear what would happen if Ariel signed the contract. Ariel is just so stupid that she took the risk! Just for legs! Her father gave up his power to save his daughter and Ursula nearly got everyone killed. And the worst part is she doesn’t even learn her lesson. She got what she wanted despite putting everyone in danger. Ariel sucks. It’s impossible to like her. And the only ...more - MegaSoulhero

2 Mater (Cars 2) Tow Mater, or simply Mater, is a character in Cars and its sequels, Cars 2 and Cars 3 as well as Cars Toons. He is voiced by Larry the Cable Guy and inspired by a 1951 International Harvester tow truck.

This guy got even more annoying and he was already rage inducing in the first place. - iliekpiez

Mater was a fine character in the first movie but basing an entire movie on him was a bad idea - Randomator

Mater Sucks!

I like Cars 2...

3 Hercules (Hercules)

Whenever I say I hate Hercules, people think I’m crazy. This movie seems to have a lot of fans. However, some of these same people who like Hercules say they hate Fantasia. Why do people hate that movie? I’ve actually never heard anyone give a legitimate reason as to why they hate it. At least I’ve actually given reasons as to why I hate Hercules. The titular character is actually not the worst character in the movie. In fact, he’s one of the least unbearable. My problem with him is that he’s just very bland. He’s just a generic hero who wants to prove himself worthy enough to become a god. We’ve seen this kind of thing tons of times. He’s shares a lot of similarities with Superman. It’s just honestly distracting. By the way, how come he suddenly becomes a god after saving Meg? He risked his life to save everyone else from various monsters yet nothing happened. I never understood that. - MegaSoulhero

4 Maggie (Home on the Range)

Chicken Little is worse than Home on the Range in my opinion.

Home on the Range is the worst Disney movie ever. Worse than Chicken Little. The main cow of the film is Maggie, voiced by a racist actress. I’ve only seen Home on the Range twice and I refuse to watch it again, so I’m gonna keep make this short. I just really don’t like Maggie. And it’s not just her. It’s pretty much every character in the movie. None of the characters are likeable. - MegaSoulhero

5 Mulan (Mulan II) Fa Mulan, a character inspired by an actual historic figure is a character who appears in Walt Disney Pictures' 36th animated feature film Mulan, as well as its sequel Mulan II.

No no no. I love Mulan in the original film. The sequel version of her sucks majorly! In the first movie, Mulan was a strong female lead who cared about her family and doing what’s right. She’s one of those girls who focuses on love and that kind of stuff. In the sequel, they completely forget about what made Mulan so great. There are three princesses who are forced to marry people they don’t know or else the Mongols will attack China. However, they fall in love with those three guys from the first movie. And Mulan supports it. Even though the fate of China is at stake. Yep. She is willing to let China get destroyed so the girls can be with who they want to be with. The worst part is they actually do end up with them at the end and supposedly China gets destroyed. And it’s all Mulan’s fault. Way to ruin a character. - MegaSoulhero

6 Joy (Inside Out) Joy is the main protagonist of the 2015 Disney/Pixar animated feature film "Inside Out". She is one of the five emotions inside of Riley Andersen's mind and serves as the leader. Hence her name she is very positive and optimistic and wants nothing more but for Riley to be happy.

Never been a fan of Amy Poehler. She just tries to hard to be funny. It never works for me. That’s pretty much a main reason why I don’t care for Joy from Inside Out. That isn’t to say that she’s completely horrible. She does have her moments at times. She actually learns in the end that people need sadness to get through life. She definitely does have development. Unfortunately, I just find her to be pretty annoying. This is a problem since she’s the main character. Inside Out is still a great movie regardless. - MegaSoulhero

7 Ella (Cinderella 2015)

Lily James is a great actress. I’m just gonna guess the way she was acting in this film was due to bad direction. Which isn’t surprising considering of all the movies I’ve seen from this director, I haven’t liked any of them. Basically, she is a huge stereotype. She makes it seem like women are weak. She always has this weird smile on her face and doesn’t get aggressive when she needs to be. This is one of my biggest issues with the remakes. They portray characters in a way that goes against what the original stood for. Speaking of remakes, supposedly the Lion King remake will use a combination of CGI and animatronics. However, that could very well be false since the person who posted about it deleted his Tweet. If it’s false then I’m gonna be very angry. - MegaSoulhero

8 Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) Aurora is a fictional character from the popular Disney Film, Sleeping Beauty and the 2015 Live Action Release, Maleficent. She is commonly known as Sleeping Beauty and is one of the group Disney Princesses. She is a unique Disney Princess as in her film, Sleeping Beauty, she has a total of 18 minutes more.

I don’t remember the last time Aurora talk. Then, again I don’t remember her talking at all besides singing. I really did not like her and she doesn't have a personality besides attracting animals. - NightJinx

Aurora is okay but she’s so underdeveloped. Not only does she barely appear in her own movie we really don’t know much about her. She really doesn’t have any personality like the other princesses. I don’t hate her or the movie itself but they could have done more - Randomator

Aurora is an okay Disney princess, but she is a horrible protagonist. Mainly because, despite being the protagonist, she barely even appears in her own movie. Yet the title is “Sleeping Beauty”. They don’t give us enough time to get to know her. Of all the Disney princesses, she’s the most underdeveloped. She gets cursed as a child, she meets a prince, she falls asleep, she wakes up, and that’s about it. Sleeping Beauty is a movie worth watching specifically for some pretty cool things. Like Maleficent for example. Aurora is such an underdeveloped character and honestly kind of boring. I don’t know why people over exaggerate their hatred for her though. It’s not like she’s Ariel. - MegaSoulhero

9 Captain Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, is a fictional character and the main protagonist in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. He is a pirate in the film series.

Captain Jack Sparrow is such an entertaining character and Johnny Depp is such a great actor. Both of these statements used to be true. But not anymore. In the previous Pirates films, Jack was pretty competent. He wasn’t a complete idiot. Here, he’s a complete idiot. I actually found him to be very annoying in this movie. He pretty much acts like Jar Jar Binks in which most of the things he does are by accident. He’s not as bad as Jar Jar, but he kind of acts like him here. Jack used to be the character that continued to make this franchise entertaining. I just didn’t find him to be all that great in the fifth film. Wasted potential. - MegaSoulhero

10 Jyn Erso (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) Jyn Erso is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise, portrayed by English actress Felicity Jones in the 2016 film Rogue One.

I kinda thought she’d like another badass like Katniss Everdeen or any other girl protagonist in popular movies. However, I didn’t care for her that much and was uninterested in her. I barely remember the movie, it was just so dull. - NightJinx

I wanted to like this character. She seemed like an interesting person. Unfortunately, she’s forgettable. Just like all the other characters in the movie. I don’t really even remember one line from her. She’s just so bland. She doesn’t have much of a personality. The actress does a great job, but the writing is terrible. At least she’s better than Rose Tico. Oh, and L3-37 as well. Jyn is better than both. - MegaSoulhero

The Contenders

11 Alice (Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass)
12 Pocahontas (Pocahontas) Pocahontas is a title character in Disney's 33rd animated feature film Pocahontas, and its direct-to-video sequel Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World.
13 Simba (The Lion King) Simba is a fictional character who appears in Disney's The Lion King franchise. Introduced in Walt Disney Animation's 32nd animated feature film The Lion King (1994), the character subsequently appears in its sequels The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (1998) and The Lion King 1½ (2004).

Hey TLK hater, read the title of the list please l.

He's a dumb protagonist, even as an adult he only listen to others. - LukeTargaryen

14 Rey (Star Wars) Rey is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise, portrayed by British actress Daisy Ridley. First appearing as the central character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey is a scavenger who was left behind on the planet Jakku when she was a child, and later becomes involved with the Resistance's more.

Just rather uninteresting and generic character wise.

15 Sofia (Sofia the First)

Sofia deserved to die! - Crystalsnow

16 Simba (The Lion King, 2019)

Too bad that the talented voice actor had to play a mean-spirited character who never shuts up and just brags about being king of pride rock non-stop. At least the young Simba from the 1994 version knows when to shut up.

Just to let you guys know, this is referring to the young Simba. I kinda liked the grown up Simba but the young Simba is just so annoying

17 Spot (The Good Dinosaur)
18 Belle (Beauty and the Beast 2017)

Really? I think Belle in the movie had a personality. Emma Watson did a great job in this role. - NightJinx

19 Maleficent (Maleficent)
20 Woody (Toy Story) Sheriff Woody Pride is a fictional character in the Toy Story franchise. He is voiced by Tom Hanks in all of the feature-length and short films and by Jim Hanks in video games and shorts. He is a stuffed cowboy character that leads the other toys in adventures in the movies. His facial features are more.

Woody is good

21 Tod (The Fox and The Hound)

Not really bad, but this movie was just completely forgettable, as is he.

22 Copper (The Fox and the Hound)

See what I said for Tod.

23 Elsa (Frozen) Queen Elsa of Arendelle is a fictional character who appears in Walt Disney Animation Studios' 53rd animated film Frozen.

I think they’ll portray her better in Frozen II but Let It Go has created a giant plot hole in this particular character. That song represented her dark side but then she’s actually a good character but the quality of her character is just awful. We have so much questions about Elsa and yet the movie doesn’t answer. She just another SJW propaganda. Disney should have made Anna the Disney Princess instead of Elsa. I feel bad for Anna since she was likeable and yet they made Elsa a Disney Princess instead.

24 Jasmine (Aladdin 2019)

DISNEY, STOP WITH YOUR FORCED FEMINISM. YOU’VE DONE THAT WITH ELSA, REY, CAPTAIN MARVEL, AND THEN JASMINE. I feel bad for Naomi Scott because I got to hear her sing but her solo song just represents her SJW side.
