Worst Invasive Animal Species in Pennsylvania

The Top Ten
1 Zebra Mussel

This is interesting. For more than fifteen years, gloom and doom have been predicted with the rise and spread of zebra mussels, and it just hasn't materialized (with the exception of the Great Lakes region where their numbers have become nuisance). In fact, it appears to be the opposite. Their larvae have provided a rich food source for forage fish, which in turn has provided a greater good source for piscavores. They also help control algae blooms, which in turn helps keep bodies of water oxygenated. Of, course, too much of anything is a bad thing (they can compete for food with some larval fish species), and keeping their numbers in line with ecosystem sustainablity, through methods themselves not detrimental, must be seriously undertaken.
