Top 10 Worst Live-Action Disney Remakes

Lately, Disney has been having an obsession with remaking their films. There are even a lot more of them coming in the future. They can be hit or miss. So for my 200th list, let’s discuss the worst live-action remakes Disney has come out with.
The Top Ten
1 Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland

This whole idea of remaking classic Disney films with live-action actors really worries me. Disney has always been at their best when they take risks and challenge themselves. That willingness to experiment with new ideas is what caused their Renaissance period of the 90s and their Revival period that started in the late 2000s. These remakes are the exact opposite of experimentation. The delay and eventual cancellation of a new animated film in Gigantic, and its replacement with more live-action remakes of classic films is a testament to this. Call me old-fashioned or an animation fanboy, but I'm seriously worried that kids growing up nowadays are going to recognize these recent remakes more than the animated originals. Seeing as how the Emma Watson Beauty and the Beast made over $1 billion at the box office, and that the original came out decades before they were born, I see a grim future where the general public ignores and undervalues the masterpiece orignal animated movies. The ...more

The most misleading title in cinema history! I really hate the direction this movie decided to take. It looks more like a Narnia film. And I hate Narnia. When Tim Burton creates something original, it can usually be pretty entertaining. When he makes a movie based on an existing property, it can turn out pretty bad. And he’s working on a live action Dumbo movie. The Pink Elephants on Parade scene is gonna be weird. Alice herself is very uninteresting. The actress barely shows any emotion. There wasn’t any memorable moment from her. And since she’s the main character, that is not a good thing. The visuals look very terrible. There was never a moment when I believed that they were in Wonderland! Or in this case “Underland”. Of course, the best part of the film would have to be the Futterwacken. Not really. It was such a dumb dance and it was a waste of time. The entire movie is a waste of time. It just completely ruins what made Alice in Wonderland so great. Nothing about it ...more

Good film. A modern classic.

2 Beauty and the Beast (2017)

My biggest complain with the movie is the acting especially Emma Watson as Belle who still feels like she's playing Hermione Granger from Harry Potter and the Beast is less intimidating and believable than his animated counterpart a lot of the other characters feel very soulless and bland especially Belle's father Maurice is just plain forgettable the only characters who truly stood out was Gaston, Le Fou and Lumier.

The only reason these Live action remakes of classic animated movies keep getting made is because of money, Disney knows that people are dumb enough to want to go see a live action adaptation of a classic Disney animated movie and the more these people go to see them the more live action remake movies Disney will make.

They're running out of ideas, so Disney is making all of their animated movies live action

Emma Watson is a good actor for Hermione Granger but not very fitting for Belle

3 Maleficent

I really hated this movie, Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty was an awesome villain but in this movie though not an actual remake but an alternate universe kind of story it completely throws out a lot of who Maleficent is and instead portrays her as the good guy which I really hated because I really wanted to see her story of how she became the most feared Disney villain of all time and instead they rewrote her whole character, the rest of the characters are all completely forgettable especially the 3 fairies who were great characters in the original movie are now reduced to a couple of bumble idiots and the villain of the movie King Stefan is barely believable as a villain.

Sleeping Beauty needs an actual remake! Not this! They ruined a perfectly good villain! She’s not entirely evil in this movie! The best thing about her was how evil she was! They completely changed her! I love Angelina Jolie and I think she did a great job at playing the character. I just wish they hadn’t changed the character so much. The visual effects are decent but not exactly groundbreaking. The three faires are very annoying. The prince was very bland. Which isn’t surprising since he wasn’t an interesting character to begin with. The best thing I can say about this film is at least Aurora has more dialogue. This movie really sucks.

They ruined the most wonderful evil character in all of Disney's movies.

Shut your mouth!

4 102 Dalmatians

My stupid music teacher made me watch this in music class this movie sucks and it actually gives chicken little a run for its money it’s not as bad as chicken little but it still sucks in terms of bad Disney films Disney is the best studio ever but this is one of their worst films and certainly deserves to be on this list.

This is a complete disgrace to the source material. Almost every character from the first remake and the animated originals are absent.

Patch's London Adventure was a better sequel than this.

Not only did 101 Dalmatians get a remake, the 101 Dalmatians remake got a sequel! I’m gonna be honest, I always forget this exists. It’s really forgettable. I never hear anyone talking about it. There is nothing worth talking about in this. Apparently the director of this film directed A Goofy Movie, Enchanted, and Tarzan. So what happened here? It has the same problems as the first one, but done even worse. So boring. I still enjoyed Glenn Close, though. However, the story is very cliché. I don’t know why the remake got a sequel. I’m glad it tried to be original, but it still wasn’t a good movie.

5 Alice Through the Looking Glass

To me, this movie was a masterpiece compared to the animated classic.

This film is really good.

6 The Sorcerer's Apprentice

This sucks. Night on Bald Mountain needs to come. Nutcracker will be bad. BRING CHERNABOG NOW!

This movie’s overhated in my opinion. It’s by no means a great film, but I thought it was pretty cool. Nicolas Cage does a decent job, the effects are outstanding, and there are some pretty funny moments. This is coming from someone who loves the Sorcerer’s Apprentice segment in Fantasia. I still think the segment is better, though. This isn’t the only thing from Fantasia that they plan on making a movie on. There’s the Nutcracker and the Four Realms movie coming out this November. And I heard that they might be making a Night on Bald Mountain movie which I’m totally against the idea of. Still, I’ll probably check those out. Even if they might not be good.

7 101 Dalmatians (1996)

This was the very first live action remake that Disney came out with. And little did they know that it would start to become a trend years later. 101 Dalmatians the animated film I didn’t really care for. I also didn’t really care for this live action film. Why? Because it was pretty boring. The highlight of the film is Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil. She was very enjoyable. She really brought the movie to life. Something that changed about this movie that I really didn’t like was the dogs don’t talk. That kind of makes it harder to appreciate them as characters. The animated film gave the dalmatians different personalities. In the live action version, it’s hard to tell them apart. They’re not really seen as characters. Just animals. So I was disappointed by that. It’s hard to say that the movie was horrible since there are good things in it, but there was barely anything that kept me interested.

How dare you, the original's a classic! This is the mediocre one! Focus you imbecile, focus!

Way better than the mediocre original

8 Cinderella (2015)

Cinderella was in need of a remake, and they failed miserably. Given many rants I have done in the past, you probably think that I hate women. I don’t hate women. However, the way that this movie portrays women is horrible. They basically say that you always have to be pretty and stuff. They even ruined the main character herself. The original character was harmless but still stood up for herself when she needed to. Here, she just lets her sisters and mother torment her and she doesn’t try to do anything about. She always tries to find the good in people. She has no spine. She just stands around with a dumb smile on her face. She even starts singing at the end when she gets locked in her room for some reason. This is why I’m looking forward to the Mulan remake. At least Mulan proves to people that you can be pretty and tough at the same time. Plus, the actress they got to play live action Mulan is quite possibly the hottest girl I’ve ever seen in my life. Really excited for ...more

I hate this film it's so boring I fell asleep in the theaters and cinderella is so weak here at least in the classic she was trying to escape when she got locked and here she's not even trying shes singing a dumb song

Oh come on, this film is the most beautiful out of all those suckers. The visual style, the characters, the story, the music, everything! Someone remove this please!

9 The Jungle Book (1994)
10 Pete’s Dragon (2016)

I thought this was good.

Pete’s Dragon was cute. I don’t get why people hate it. It was miles better than the original. Which I really didn’t like. That actually was a movie that desperately needed a remake. It did not age well. This one felt completely different from the original. The only similarities were that there’s a kid named Pete and he has a dragon named Elliott. Other than that, it’s a completely different movie. That doesn’t make it great, though. There are some story problems and some pacing problems. Also, I really hate the design of the dragon. Why does he have hair? It just looks really weird. Even the face looks weird. The dragon in Super Mario Odyssey looks a lot better. And I know I’m comparing a good dragon to an evil dragon. Still, their dragons. Speaking of dragons, How to Train Your Dragon 3 is quite possibly my most anticipated movie of next year. I’ve been looking forward to that. Anyway, I like the Pete’s Dragon remake. They did a great job at actually making it ...more

The Contenders
11 Aladdin (2019)

When this movie came out last summer, I of course went to see "The Secret Life of Pets 2" because that movie is way better than the Aladdin remake and I'm not a fan of the Live Action Remakes Disney keeps making. So one night, the Aladdin remake came to Disney+, and my mom made me watch this Aladdin remake and I was not on board with it because I already saw reviews for this remake on YouTube before, and a most of the reviewers did not enjoy the Aladdin remake and totally agree with the people who HATED the remake. So I watched it with my mom, and it was SOOOOO BORING! I wasn't able to finish this Aladdin remake because I SOOOO BORED and I made an excuse to my mom that I was tired and I wanted to go to bed so I don't have to finish this remake. So I don't recommend this Aladdin remake to anyone but if any of you like the remake, that's fine but don't make me watch it. So if you all want to stay away from the bad Live Action Remakes, STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!

This movie was so boring, when will Disney stop remaking these animated classics?

I want to kill whoever added this

12 The Jungle Book (2016)

I honesty did not like this one, it just wasn't enough to entertain me and keep me watching

I actually really like this movie. This is a perfect example of how you do a remake. It had the same plot as the original, but took it in a different direction. It had its own twists that made it stand out. It’s not a copy of the original. It feels a lot different. And they did a great job with it. The visuals look very impressive. The animals look very realistic. Even the entire jungle looks very realistic. I was afraid this was gonna suck. The trailers didn’t really grab my attention. I’m really glad I was wrong on this one. It’s not perfect, but it is very enjoyable. The Lion King, however, that’s gonna suck. I don’t even think I’m gonna watch that movie. Same goes for Aladdin.

This is one that Disney actually did right.

I honestly really dislike this movie

13 Christopher Robin

So that's how Pikachu and the Pokemon gang look hideous. By using jumping on the furry bandwagon to create something that looks similar to this. To all movie companies, stop making every character look like furries.

This movie is so boring. Trust me!

This was not a remake.

Winnie the Furry.

14 Mulan (2020)

I refuse to watch

15 Dumbo (2019)
16 Kim Possible (2019)

If they make a remake of Star vs the forces of evil or Gravity Falls, I am done with Disney

But it was 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, isn't that gimmicky?

This should be number 1

17 The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

This is the worst version of Nutcracker. This is an Alice in Wonderland rip-off. And those Disney twist villain cliche is taken at its worst in this one.

18 Pinocchio (2022)
19 Lady and the Tramp (2019)
20 Peter Pan & Wendy (2023)
