Top 10 Worst Metal Bands for Beginner Fans

This isn't the same as the list of Metal Bands for Beginner Fans. It's a list of bands that would be inappropriate to recommend to people who are new to metal.

I'm not saying these bands are bad or anything. I actually love some of them. It's just that they would be too extreme, explicit, or complex or beginners.

If you really want to get people into metal, I'd suggest you recommend them some good old traditional metal or power metal. Those genres are at least not too extreme or progressive.
The Top Ten
1 Gorgoroth Gorgoroth is a Norwegian black metal band based in Bergen. Formed in 1992 by Infernus, the band is named after the dead plateau of evil and darkness in the land of Mordor (a fictional location in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings).

This is a legit satanic band. They were know for putting up naked crucifixes and decapitated goat heads at a concert once.

Black metal would be a terrible genre to recommend to beginners because not only is it extreme, but that most bands in the genre try to be as satanic as possible. So don't recommend this group or other black metal groups to beginners.

2 Mayhem Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1984 in Oslo, regarded as one of the pioneers of the Norwegian black metal scene. The band is also known for the infamous events surrounding them including the 1991 suicide of vocalist Dead (in which former guitarist Euronymous took pictures of Dead's corpse and used one of them as the front cover for one of their live albums) and the 1993 murder of Euronymous by former member Varg Vikernes, of Burzum.

Another satanic band on the list. All the members of this band are mentally insane. Their lead singer would always cut himself onstage with glass and paint his face like a corpse. He later committed suicide in which their guitarist took a picture of his dead body and used it as the cover of one of their live albums. This sure is some creepy stuff right here for beginners.

3 Cannibal Corpse Cannibal Corpse is a American death metal band from Buffalo, New York, formed in 1988. The band is known for their graphic album covers, explicitly violent lyrics and song titles like "I C** Blood" The group got into mainstream after performing the song "Hammer Smashed Face" in the 1994 film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. In 1995, vocalist Chris Barnes left the band to focus on his new death metal project Six Feet Under. He was replaced by George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher of the band Monstrosity, who has remained as the frontman since. ...read more.

This band has a lot of sexual and gory album covers. And their violent song titles would absolutely scare away beginners.

4 Anal C*** Anal C*** was an American grindcore band founded by vocalist Seth Putnam in 1988 in Newton, Massachusetts. The band is known for their highly offensive lyrics which included themes of misogyny, homophobia, racism, Nazism, antisemitism, and schadenfreude (ridicule of the unfortunate). Their music has been received negatively by critics, which the band stated that their music was intentionally bad, just to get negative reviews. Anal C*** ended when Seth Putnam died from a heart attack in 2011.

Definitely one of the most offensive bands ever formed. Their song titles are enough to offend beginners everywhere. Song titles include Hitler Was a Sensative Man, I Sent a Thank You Card to the Guy Who Raped You, and I Gave NAMBLA Pictures of Your Kid (look up NAMBLA and you'll see why beginners would absolutely hate this band).

5 Cattle Decapitation Cattle Decapitation is an American Deathgrind band from San Diego, California formed in 1996. Cattle Decapitation's songs protest the mistreatment and consumption of animals, the abuse of the environment and touch subjects such as misanthropy and genocide of the human race. Much of their music is based on putting humans in the situations that animals are subjected to, for example animal testing, slaughter, etc. While the band started with an entirely vegetarian lineup, only two current members are vegetarian namely Travis Ryan and Josh Elmore.

Similar to Cannibal Corpse in a way. The music video to their song called Forced Gender Reassignment was so violent and messed up that it got banned from YouTube. So yeah. Don't recommend these guys or the video to beginners.

6 Cephalic Carnage Cephalic Carnage is an American deathgrind band formed in 1992 in Denver, Colorado. The band comprises vocalist Lenzig Leal, guitarists Steve Goldberg and Brian Hopp, drummer John Merryman and bassist Nick Schendzielos.

They're not legit satanists (heck their frontman is Catholic), but they use satanic music for shock value. They mostly sing about satanism, serial killers, war, they even have a song about Nazi torture doctor Josef Mengele. This band would be very bad for beginners.

9 Dream Theater Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band from Boston, Massachusetts. The band was formed in 1985 under the name of "Majesty", only to change its name to Dream Theater later.

The members of the band’s original lineup consisted of John Petrucci (Guitar), John Myung (Bass) and Mike Portnoy (Drums). The band had multiple keyboardists and singers, but as of and since 1991, the band's lead vocalist has been James LaBrie.

The band released their debut album "When Day and Dream Unite" in 1989, but only gained success and notoriety after the release of their second album, "Images and Words" in 1992. ...read more.

They're not too heavy and they use clean vocals. But the reason I put them on here is because most people can't handle complex music and DT is very, very complex.

10 Type O Negative Type O Negative was an American gothic/doom metal band formed in Brooklyn, New York City in 1989. Their lyrical emphasis on themes of romance, depression, and death resulted in the nickname "The Drab Four".

They're not too heavy, but the cover of one of their albums features the frontman's sphincter (Google sphincter and you'll see what I mean).
