The plot is not the problem with this one. It is the execution. When this movie was released it was not possible to actually adapt the controversial plot so you always have the feeling there is something big missing in the movie. Like, I know there is a relationship between the two main characters but it is not even hinted at in the movie. - Martin_Canine
The book Lolita ( Not everyone can understand the book...The idea.. plot and the story ) isn't for everyone therefore...it shouldn't have been made into a movie. - Ananya
There's a reason Kubrick tried to prevent the public from seeing this, because this is on an Ed Wood level of quality. The acting is terrible, the dialogue is unintentionally hilarious ("If you have to hate me, please try to like me also."), and it's shot more like a documentary rather than a war film, which is not what it was going for. Still, it is worth seeing not because of the unintentional comedy, but to see how much a director can improve from his/her debut feature. - nerffan8000
