Mister "HAHA METAL IS THE BEST GENRE", you clearly have no idea what actual country music is about, or music at all. I like some heavy metal, but you seem like the type to listen to some crappy sub-genre of metal. Much of Heavy Metal is screaming and growling. ANYONE CAN DO THAT! That doesn't show talent, that shows stupidity. For once could people like you and mister "this music gives me a headache" please think outside the box, instead of being so single-minded, and stubborn as to at least dig deep and look for good music outside of your genre. Ever major genre of music has something good about it (otherwise it wouldn't last very long). While many people listen to terrible music, it doesn't mean everyone else does and you're the authority on it. Just cause you have a different perspective doesn't mean your necessarily right. I'm posting my opinion on music (I'm mister "I like real Country"), but I'm not being a complete jerk. Granted I'm a little harsh, but I don't go on flaunting ...more
At least with Pop and other unpopular genres, there is variety and songs that stick out for being good. With Country, however, you are essentially listening to the same song over and over. Beer, girls, tractor, river, jeans. The majority of country is now just some guy with a fake sounding accent singing about how he wants to get with a girl, or how he loves the countryside. That's. It. There is very rarely any meaning to the songs, just singing about drinking and getting with girls.
There ARE good country artists and songs (Johnny Cash, Zac Brown, Toby Keith), but the genre has gotten to the point where there is essentially no substance to many of the songs, in music OR lyrics.
Party, feel-good songs are fine, but they can't be the ENTIRE GENRE.
Country is all like "Ah hop in mah truck, I am divorced, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah I have no idea what I'm talking about. - froogylowlo
I like real Country, not most of the mainstream crap they call country today. I don't mind crossover genres of country such as Country rock, every once in a while, but it seems to be every song on the radio now. Most Country pop is crap and some Country rap is okay. But Bro-Country is taking it too far. My favorite genre of Country is Neo-Traditional Country. My favorite artist is Josh Turner - a REAL artist! I also like the classics such as George Strait, Alan Jackson, Reba, Randy Travis, hank Williams and others. I'm also a teen which proves that not all young people listen to bad music. Frankly I don't care whether you like today's excuse for country or not. Just don't call it country when it's clearly an extension of Pop.
Let me tell you a story that really makes me express my rage for country fans:
So, I go to high school. I have a class with less than 10 students in it. They aren't so bad. Most of them like the same music as me, my favorite bands being RATM, Smashing Pumpkins, and, of course, Green Day. I put them on sometimes to rock out to (yes, the teacher is fine with it). But there's this one kid, who sits alone in the corner, who, no matter what I put on, he goes "That's gay."
THIS IS THE SAME GUY WHO LISTENS TO COUNTRY MUSIC!
That's one of the most hypocritical things you could say! That's like Trump saying "My opponent's a racist:"
Country is a bunch of drunk, dropout southerners who can't sing or play guitar, so they made a genre that said "OK, this is CLEARLY your type of music." WHY?! What's even worse is that we have more and more Country artists coming in each year. So many ads on YouTube. KILL...THEM...ALL...
PS don't vote for Trump.
I just can't stand it. The singers' accents really grate on my ears the entire time. The lyrics tend to be about some sexualized romance where the girl in question is described in as much detail as possible to give off any sort of appeal or it's about drinking (which is a huge turn-off as I despise alcohol with every fiber of my body), working on a farm, tractors, and over things that I have no interest in. The worst is when my dad or brother listen to it and say that "I'll learn" whenever I say that I don't like it. I have no idea what that means but it's probably something really arrogant and condescending.
I had to vote for this just to comment. Anyways, I am 16 and have lived in Nashville my whole life and I'm gonna admit there's a lot of country music that sucks. But that go's for any genre, your gonna have bad artists. But country music is really good once you take the chance and actually listen to music that the radio and media throws out there. If you go to bars downtown and listen to the local artists that aren't famous but make there own music. It's great music. Just like Donald trump says fake news, you only listen to the songs the radio and internet says is good country songs.
This is country in a nutshell: "I like beer and girls and trucks and beer and trucks and girls and trucks and beer! "
Now, I like a lot of stuff. Rock, metal, electronic, and even pop once in a while. But there is one genre I cannot stand- country music. Now, I don't really care for rap, but country music is just annoying! I hear it on the radio, and it's just... Let me explain. First, it has no beats. Rock is awesome and catchy, and so is electronica. But this is just boring ( for me at least). Next, the accent. This is the worst part for me. Why would you use the accent anyway? ( unless you have a legit one). Finally, most of it is about trucks, beer, etc. Most of it, not all of it. Sure, there's Johnny Cash, but the damages are done. Ok, there ends my "rant", although it was a little unnecessary... - Pony
This genre was never good. Period. The same tired depressing topics repeated over and over again till the end of time, yet morons seem to never get tired of hearing about how someone cheated on them or their ex lover stole their dog and how they are going to self medicate on alcohol and other substances, I bet the morons that listen to this garbage make the same mistakes they so endlessly sing about. - Dystopia
When I went through my country phase, it was mostly so people would think I have a white person personality. I mostly liked it because it was catchy but God, pretty much all of the songs are about trucks and beer. Johnny Cash was good. That's pretty much it. I now know that I can listen to whatever the hell I want as long as it had some meaning or story behind it. Thank God because country music these days is complete trash.
As many others have said, originally, country music actually did sound pretty good! There were good melodies and good voices (not so much bloody emphasis on the southern accent...). But over the past few decades, it's really gone downhill. The absolute dependence that country music artists have on developing a catchy "hook" (that part of the song that is purposefully made to get stuck in your head FOREVER), makes it no better better than modern day pop.
Honestly, I can't tell the difference between pop and country. The only way I can tell country from pop is if they throw in an acoustic guitar! And the lyrics - beer, tractors, and sex. Once, there was a song playing on the radio (I don't know the name) but it was just about a girl getting turned on by a tractor... - kaitlynrad11
Regular country or classic country like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton isn't bad, in fact, it has influenced a lot of music artists. But if you are talking about Bro Country, then yes, it is awful and some of the worst music ever. Country gets a bad reputation due to Bro Country, when there are some good artists that don't make stereotypical country. - AnimeDrawer
Okay first off. Real country music is great. It started all of the great genres of music. However, people on here are taking it to mean Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line and Jason Aldean type music. That isn't country that's garbage. I don't know what genre to put it under because it would be a disgrace to just about any actual genre of music
I don't get why anyone would like country music. It's annoying, boring, and idiotic. Country fanatics might say it's not all about living on farms, but it really is. The other day I heard some country song about a girl who was turned on by a sexy tractor. Not even exaggerating the lyrics, that's literally what it said.
Trust me, every music genre has something good in it. It has it's own history and community, with thriving artists that represent what it's all about, others that are "killing" it and those who are reinventing it. It's a beautiful process that has been going on for decades. I personally find it hard to disrespect a genre so much that you would insult it so harshly, for it's so unique!
Country has always eluded me. Growing up in the south I have surrounded myself with people who adore the genre and always listen to it, and I've tried to listen to it but I never understood what the big deal was. It has gotten better the more I hear it but it still stands as my personal least favorite, but don't let that affect how you view it. It's just me.
Also, rap is a very technical and difficult genre to master and takes talent and precision to write and perform verses well. Don't let the poppier or hateful ones get in the way of how you view it. - Donut
The biggest problem with country is that it's so cliche. It used to be a neat underground genre. Then everybody jumped on the bandwagon. They don't even sing about relevant topics anymore, just an excuse to use that "country sound" for their own purpose. In any case, at least country singers are still singers, something no one can say about a rapper
All country songs are either about depression, partying, liking someone, or something really country like riding a tractor. Something about this genre just grates on my nerves... And I happen to live in a place where country music is played constantly and widely renowned. Just my luck I suppose.
You guys are so mean! Not all country bands and songs are awful! They are are meaningful, significant, awesome, AND AND shall I go on? Anyway, you guys shouldn't go around saying "oh this genre sucks! " Oh too bad so sad because it's cool and who cares about your opinion. So there!
Ask me what genre I like and I'll say " I like a lot of genres". But mention country music and I'll say " I don't like country music". You know why? Because COUNTRY MUSIC TODAY SUCKS! I know I sounded like an immature brat, but I just really, really can't stand country music. Most of it sounds the same, the accent makes no sense and their are no beats. On the positive side, their is Johnny Cash, etc. - MusicalPony
To everyone saying that this genre is nothing but men talking about tractors, trucks, beer, and girls...that's BRO COUNTRY. Country alone is not a terrible genre. Listen to Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Johnny Cash, Don McLean, Miranda Lambert, Jamie Lynn Spears, and others. - DCfnaf
So you're saying that the reason we hate country is because we only listen to guys sing and not the girls...hmm I'll check it out.. - AlphaQ
Old country was descent. Now it's just a bunch of idiots with forced southern accents talking about beer, country girls, and tractors. Besides, I feel like modern country feels embarrassed to even be country. They try rapping and try to look "cool" but it ends up failing.
Johnny Cash, in his later years, said this genre went down the toilet. - mr_crossover27
Banjo strumming. Grass chewing. Dead wife. Inbred children. Farming.
If you enjoy all of these topics then we have found a genre for you! If you do not enjoy any of the previously stated topics that appear in country songs then you will not enjoy this type of music.
