Worst NRA Arguments

The Top Ten

1 Criminals won't follow laws because they're criminals

This is basically arguing that all laws are ineffective, which is ridiculous. - Y2K

This is a terrible list. - Not_A_Weeaboo

2 Guns don't kill people, people kill people

People kill people...with guns. If you make it harder to get a gun, then you'll make it harder to kill people. - Y2K

3 The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun

There's no way to separate the "good" and "bad" guys. If you want to protect yourself, buy a non-lethal weapon. - Y2K

4 More guns, less murder

Japan has strict gun laws, but over double the US suicide rate. South Korea has even stricter gun laws than Japan, and triple the suicide rate of the US.

I don't know about specific countries, but studies shows that if you compare US states and regions, the places with more guns have more suicide deaths. That's pretty obvious, because a gun is far more deadly than other common suicide methods. - Y2K

This goes against almost every study. More guns means much more murder, and more suicides too. - Y2K

5 If we ban guns, they'll just use knives

It is much more difficult to kill people with a knife, which is why knife attacks kill much, much fewer people than gun attacks. - Y2K

6 This is a mental illness problem, not a gun problem
7 Guns are less deadly than cancer

And terrorists kill much fewer people than guns. Does that mean that it isn't important? Every life matters, and thousands of lives are lost to gun violence each year. - Y2K

8 Hitler also took away guns

No he didn't. And this argument is suggesting that we should use guns to overthrow the government. These gun nuts are delusional and dangerous. - Y2K

9 Chicago shows that gun control is bad

Chicago does not have stricter gun laws than any other city. And anyone could easily get a gun somewhere else and bring it into the city. It's not the same thing with a country, where it's much harder to get a gun from across the border. - Y2K

10 Switzerland shows that more guns are good

Switzerland has a high gun ownership rate, but guns are still much more regulated than in the US. Its crime rates are also not lower than other European countries, and in general it is very different than countries like the US and it can't be easily compared. Plus, murders went down in Switzerland when they passed stricter gun laws. - Y2K
