Top 10 Worst Animals to Have as a Pet

The Top Ten
1 Skunks Skunks are mammals known for their ability to spray a liquid with a strong odor. Different species of skunk vary in appearance from black-and-white to brown or cream colored, but all have warning coloration.

What is wrong with people? Skunks CAN be pets. The pet skunks can't spray because their scent glands are removed. "I should tell my uncle to get rid of his" and what, get him to chop the poor skunk's head off?

It's only because they stink. If skunks could be fixed to where they can't spray -- similar to how dogs and cats are fixed so they can't make babies -- then they probably wouldn't be too bad to have.

I believe they are cool animals, but if you really liked them you'd let them live happily in the wild.

2 Sharks Sharks are a group of elasmobranch fish characterized by a cartilaginous skeleton, five to seven gill slits on the sides of the head, and pectoral fins that are not fused to the head. Modern sharks are classified within the clade Selachimorpha (or Selachii) and are the sister group to the rays. However,... read more

Yeah, I agree with those who love sharks. But as a pet? I'm not a huge "look at don't touch pet" fan. I'm all in for exotic. And the pets that can be tamed easily. A shark, for instance, is not a hands-on pet, for sure. For starters, they can fatally bite, and they're aquatic. Plus, they're not meant to be housed in a somewhat small enclosure. They belong in their natural habitat- the wild! That's how God designed them. They, in general, no matter how much you LOVE them, don't make good pets. As Wild Kratts would put it, "Living free and in the wild!" lol.

3 Dogs The dog or domestic dog (Canis familiaris or Canis lupus familiaris) is a domesticated descendant of the wolf, and is characterized by an upturning tail. The dog is derived from an ancient, extinct wolf, and the modern wolf is the dog's nearest living relative. The dog was the first species to be domesticated,... read more

I hate dogs. They bark at everything, they slobber all over you, they jump on you every time you enter the house, they smell REALLY bad and they lick your face and, worse, your MOUTH (SERIOUSLY, WHO LIKES THAT? THAT'S DISGUSTING!). They're WAY too overrated, but the owners are worst of all... They'll do strange things with these animals like try to mimic their behaviors. They'll bark at them and think they're "communicating with them" and some owners don't even care that their mangy mutts kill people. I mean, SERIOUSLY, someone in my neighborhood had their dog shot by the police because it was out of control and they said they were "only trying to play." It's super creepy.

4 Lions The lion (Panthera leo) is a large cat of the genus Panthera native to Africa and India. It has a muscular, broad-chested body, short, rounded head, round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. It is sexually dimorphic; adult male lions are larger than females and have a prominent mane. It is... read more

They'll kill you, and probably not even eat the corpse. Lions are very wasteful.

They'll kill you. How is this lower than perfectly normal animals.

Where the heck are you gonna get one of these? The Black Market?

5 Elephants Elephants are the largest existing land animals. Three living species are currently recognised: the African bush elephant, the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant. They are the only surviving members of the family Elephantidae and the order Proboscidea, extinct relatives include mammoths... read more

Elephants are great animals. But who would want to keep one Absurd! The survival case would be 36% for the human. By the way what are dogs doing at 5 higher than elephants. They should go down to, like 126th

There are a lot many people in my place (Kerala, India) who keep elephants as pets. They think of it as a prestige to own an elephant.

Elephants need to be left alone. Many people kill them for only their tusks, for the ivory black market trade. Leave these gentle beasts alone

6 Tigers

The survival chance with a human and a tiger is 30 percent for the human. Who in the right mind would have a tiger as a pet? According to me, a tiger would be the worst pet to have.

In other words, I saw dogs up there at #11, and I think you should demote dogs to like #452. They are the best pets.

What are you TALKING about? Tigers make WONDERFUL pets! I found a baby tiger cub on my porch and I left it there. But then my daughter went outside and TOOK it inside my house. She named the tiger Teego. And up to this day, we still have Teego. And guess what, instead of KILLING my daughter Taylor. Teego actually PROTECTS HER! Along with following her around!

7 Cats The cat (Felis catus) is a domestic species of small carnivorous mammal.
It is the only domesticated species in the family Felidae and is often referred to as the domestic cat to distinguish it from the wild members of the family. A cat can either be a house cat, a farm cat or a feral cat; the latter... read more

They are the worst pets to ever have! Dogs have been domesticated way longer than cats (well... Maybe not, but I like to say that). They are mean and vicious little things. Their relatives are way scarier than dog's relatives. They bite more than dogs and they look a lot more intimidating. They come in only 2 different shapes and very few different colors, while there are a ton of different dog breeds. All they want is food, not your love and friendship. They don't look up to you for anything but food and are more likely to run away than dogs. This is only my opinion. Your opinion counts too, so you can dislike or like my comment. I only spoke because I wanted to say something. Honestly, I didn't need to say it.

8 Blue Ringed Octopus The Blue Ringed Octopuses (Hapalochlaena) are the four strongly venomous species that are found on the coral reefs and tidal pools in the Pacific and Indian Ocean, particularly from Australia to Japan. It is known as one of the most poisonous and deadliest sea creatures. It can kill a human body by... read more

Enough Venom to kill something like 16 adult men! They have them at my local store and off a website called discountfish. Co. Uk in the marine section. You must be beeping crazy to get one of these bad boys

Most of this list isn't even pets!

9 Rhinoceros A rhinoceros, commonly abbreviated to rhino, is a member of any of the five extant species (or numerous extinct species) of odd-toed ungulates in the family Rhinocerotidae. (It can also refer to a member of any of the extinct species of the superfamily Rhinocerotoidea.) Two of the extant species are... read more

How do you keep a rhino as a pet? It's too big! It only belongs in zoos (as long as the zoos are humane and up-to-date) and in the wild.

Wild animals Belong in the wild.

You can't keep any of these animals besides cats dogs and raccoons

10 Birds

Birds are one of the best pets. They can cuddle like a cat, play fetch like a dog, and they love people. Some are destroyers like cockatiels and lovebirds and some aren't like canaries and finches. Some will need more space like a scarlet macaw or amazons. I have a cockatiel and a conure and they are beautiful. A great starter bird is a cockatiel, lovebird, parakeet/budgies, African greys, and canaries/finches. You can't hold some but I love birds. They can do many things dogs and cats can do and more. If you keep your bird clean then they shouldn't be a hassle, if you don't play with your bird (besides a canary/finch) it can lead to feather picking which is terrible. To have a hawk or a falcon you need to be 14+ and have a permit, lastly you can't have a owl as a pet Harry Potter fans.

The Contenders
11 Lizards

Dangerous! I wouldn't trust one in my home. They are capable of killing a human. They can't be tamed and are a danger to society. They are carnivorous and can grow to great sizes! I would never reccomend buying one, especially considering they're illegal in many states.

What!? They are...!? What? Noo if this not so little guy got angry and bit you you would be dead within the hour, and not because of venom! Because of bacteria and guess what there isn't a cure for bacterial infection of the body! Jesus no! Don't even conciter it!

12 Raccoons The raccoon, sometimes spelled racoon, also known as the common raccoon, North American raccoon, northern raccoon and colloquially as coon, is a medium-sized mammal native to North America.

I have 2 raccoons. They are great. They use a litter box, eat dog food, and walk around the house like cats. They're not very much upkeep and you can use a ferret cage to keep them in.

Raccoons make good pets if you willing to devote the money and time it takes to care for them. Pocahontas had a pet raccoon Meeko.

I don't agree. My friend has a raccoon as a pet, and he (the raccoon) is just an angel to her!

13 Alligators An alligator is a crocodilian in the genus Alligator of the family Alligatoridae. The two living species are the American alligator and the Chinese alligator. Additionally, several extinct species of alligator are known from fossil remains. Alligators have long existed since the Oligocene epoch 37 million... read more

An alligator is dangerous. You can't provide a good habitat for one, and it could EAT you.

They can grow up to 6 feet long and they are pretty dangerous!

You wouldn't be living very long after that.

14 Monkeys Monkeys are haplorhine primates, a paraphyletic group generally possessing tails and consisting of approximately 260 known living species.

Cute, but should never be kept as pets. I'm going to be honest, monkeys are a lot like humans and deserve the same amount of attention and care as a baby does, except for a lifetime. Most people don't have that kinda money and time to devote the proper care it takes to take care of a monkey. Plus, they live as long as humans. Plus, it's very abusive to treat a monkey as a pet because they are almost human so it's very slave-like and degrading to treat them as pets when they are so much more.

They are so cute and I wish I could have one. They would be fun to play with. I just LOVE monkeys! They are one of my favorite animals. I hope everyone else loves monkeys! It shouldn't be on BEST pets to have! So you should vote for monkeys and comment!

15 Fish

It's cool if you dig a pond and purchase a proper heating system for winter and a nice filter. You can put goldfish or koi in it. They can be hard to spot, so me and my little bro have fish finding contests. They have a big place to swim in and they can eat algae when you are out of fish flakes. People who say they're boring obviously hasn't had a pond.

WHY ISN'T THIS NUMBER 1?

They have a really short lifespan. I used to have a bunch them when I was little (I'm Asian) and they all died within 1-2 weeks of being purchased. They are also very boring. They don't do much and you can't actually do anything with them, and Asian people mainly treat them more of a house decoration than an actual pet.

16 Tasmanian Devils The Tasmanian devil is a carnivorous marsupial native to the island of Tasmania in Australia. It is characterized by its stocky build, black fur, and powerful jaws. Tasmanian devils are known for their fierce temperament and distinctive vocalizations that include screeches and growls. They have a strong... read more

Who keeps this species as a pet? It has a strong jaw with sharp teeth and sharpened claws on its front limbs. This animal can be really aggressive in captivity, so this animal is a one big no-no for a pet.

I heard of a woman who had a cat and a Tasmanian Devil. After a day, she had a skeleton and a Tasmanian Devil.

They'll spin like tornadoes if you have one.

17 Hippos The common hippopotamus, or hippo, is a large, mostly herbivorous mammal in sub-Saharan Africa, and one of only two extant species in the family Hippopotamidae, the other being the pygmy hippopotamus.
18 Snakes Snakes are elongated, legless, carnivorous reptiles of the suborder Serpentes that can be distinguished from legless lizards by their lack of eyelids and external ears.

Snakes are very docile and calm... I have a ball python, and it's a great snake, it doesn't lay feces often which is great, not a lot of maintenance. He is not aggressive. The ball python was the #2 best snake to have in America as a pet. That goes for all snakes. They are great pets to have if they are being cared for and loved.

Snakes should NOT be considered pets, let alone good pets. Snakes are very important animals functioning in their native habitats and should be admired. A picture on wall or video of snake is more logical choice than a living snake in an enclosure - that someone considered their "pet".

19 Wolves The wolf (Canis lupus), also known as the gray or grey wolf, is a large canine native to Eurasia and North America. Over thirty subspecies of Canis lupus have been recognized, with gray wolves comprising the wild subspecies. As the largest extant member of the Canidae family, the wolf is distinguished... read more

Wolves are wild animals but they can be kept as pets. They can act aggressively towards younger children and smaller pets, and they have a nasty bite. They poop all over your house and are illegal. How's that for a pet, wolfaboos?

They would eat you or just eat a hole in your wallet, due to how ridiculously expensive they would be. Really, they would just be a highly-dangerous and expensive "pet".

Wolf dog mixes have become too popular. They are not afraid of people and are known to attack people. Wolves are more scared of us than we are of them.

20 Hyenas Hyenas or hyaenas are any feliform carnivoran mammals of the family Hyaenidae /haɪˈɛnᵻdiː/. With only four extant species, it is the fifth-smallest biological family in the Carnivora, and one of the smallest in the class Mammalia.

These are dangerous these are the strongest animal in the world you know
!

21 Whales

Only possible (and plausible) if you owned enough real estate to sustain a pet whale enclosure.

22 Ferrets The ferret is the domesticated form of the European polecat, a mammal belonging to the same genus as the weasel, Mustela of the family Mustelidae.

Ferrets are my favorite pet haha

I have a snake, a betta fish, a cat, and three ferrets. I love all of my animals but ferrets are some of the sweetest pets ever. They're high maintenance, yeah, but worth it. Ferrets aren't stealing to be mean; it's cute, and they have no idea of ownership. They don't know it belongs to you. Their smell is also very light and not bad. I don't recommend descending, it only removes the anal glands and ferrets have hundreds of scent glands under their skin. So it's unnecessary.

The vast majority of ferrets do not bite.

23 Giraffes The giraffe is a tall African hoofed mammal belonging to the genus Giraffa. It is the tallest living terrestrial animal and the largest ruminant- hoofed herbivorous- on Earth. Traditionally, giraffes were thought to be one species, Giraffa camelopardalis, with nine subspecies. Most recently, researchers... read more

You need a bigg-ass house for that!

24 Spiders

I think spiders and tarantulas are very neat due to the fact that most are very colorful. Like the Cobalt Blue Tarantula or the Brazilian White Knee Tarantula. Most are easy to maintain aside from the aggressive personalities some have like the Orange Baboon Tarantula. But otherwise very interesting.

I really love my spiders! They are so interesting and not hard to care for. I just recently got a Cobalt Blue and she is beautiful! I can't wait for her to become an adult but the best fun will be to watch it happen!

25 Crocodiles Crocodiles (family Crocodylidae) or true crocodiles are large semiaquatic reptiles that live throughout the tropics in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australia. The term crocodile is sometimes used even more loosely to include all extant members of the order Crocodilia, which includes the alligators... read more

Seriously? If you think this is bad just look at humans. Humans are the top predator. And it's not like you would sleep with it or anything. It would be cool to watch. I know this personally.

This image, just sums up how dangerous they are!
