Ash Ketchum

There's so many time you can watch the same character fail at achieving his goal. What's worse is how Ash doesn't even look back at what led to his failure. "Perhaps I should've spent more time gaining experience instead of being distracted by random problems. Maybe I should've done research on the gym leaders and the pokemon found in the region. Maybe I should catch other types of pokemon outside of fire, water, grass and normal/flying. Nah. I'll just do the same thing and rely only on blind faith."

A boring, generic, annoying character who has absolutely no strategy towards battling or anything else, and who fails to win simple battles most trainers would have to go out of their way to lose. He has barely any skill as a trainer, and seems to forget almost everything he is thought at the start of every new season. He doesn't actually care about almost any of his Pokemon but Pikachu, promising to return for some Pokemon, and never following up. On multiple occasions. All that combined with how rude and self-centered he appears to be at times...I'd put him as the worst Pokemon Character for sure.

The series is in desperate need of a restart. I mean, seriously! Ash alone has ruined the Pokémon anime. More often than not, he is upbeat and optimistic, but his immature and childish behavior has led to one of my most HATED running gag in the series!

Ash, do us all a favor. WIN A Pokemon LEAGUE TROPHY AND LEAVE! - Thifer20

Okay, so someone clearly thought I was going off topic and disliked my comment when I mentioned Red was voiced by Bryce Papenbrook and insulted Veronica Taylor. I know that's kind of true, but I think instead, I should make the point that Red is clearly a better character than Ash. He has accomplished all of what Ash should have done since Season 1! So instead of disliking me over me talking about voice actors, think about how Red is actually a better character than Ash. This has nothing to do with Sword Art Online, Attack on Titan, or Blue Exorcist anymore. Whether you loved or hated those anime series, this is just about Red being better than Ash in every way whereas Red has a better character and is more badass and less childish like Ash. So whoever disliked my previous comment should give back a thumbs up! Red is basically the final draft version of what Ash should have been.

SPOILER ALERT! DOOMED TO ALWAYS BE AN INCOMPETENT Pokemon LOSER WHO CAN NEVER BECOME Pokemon MASTER DUE TO THE PERSISTENCE OF THE WRITERS WANTING TO TEACH KIDS HARD WORK NEVER PAYS OFF! If you're tired of seeing Ash lose all the time at the Pokemon League, I highly recommend Sword Art Online, an anime that DOES MANAGE to accomplish the goal of the main protagonist within 14 episodes and another one in the next 11 episodes! Ash never accomplished his goal after over 700 episodes. - ModernSpongeBobSucks

I WANT TO BECOME A POKEMON MASTER MY ASS! I GET IT WHY ASH CAN'T WIN THE POKEMON LEAGUE, BUT AT LEAST FOR GOD SAKE EVOLVE THAT STUPID PIKACHU! AND STOP RELEASING YOUR STRONGEST POKEMON. OH ONE MORE THING IF ASH LOVE ALL OF HIS POKEMON, THEN WHAT HAPPEN TO HIS PREVIOUS POKEMON THAT HE CAUGHT IN ANOTHER REGION?! INSTEAD OF CATCHING NEW POKEMON. WHY DON'T HE JUST USE HIS PREVIOUS POKEMON THAT HE CAUGHT IN ANOTHER REGION, AND TRAINED IT UNTIL IT BECOME STRONGER THEN EVOLVE. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE THE CHAMPION, IN ORDER TO BECOME A POKEMON MASTER. YOU JUST HAVE TO BE CARE TO A POKEMON THAT YOU JUST CAUGHT, EVEN IF YOU ARE MOVING TO ANOTHER REGION!

The only ongoing anime with continuity in which the worst character is the main character. Ash is no Goku, Naruto, Edward or Luffy. Ash doesn't even develop from his failures. He does the same thing and it's the same outcome of Ash losing. The pokemon anime has devolved into and endless loop of failure.

Egotistical, annoying, an awful trainer, and he outright lies and abandons some of his Pokemon after stating he'd see them again. He doesn't even age, and his outfits are all variations of the exact same thing. It's even worse, because he is somehow so attractive he gets almost every female companion he has interested in him at least slightly, and even has a LEGENDARY POKEMON get a crush on him. The ultimate Gary Stu.

It pisses me off with the fact that in the movies Ash is ALWAYS the winner, or the hero, or the chosen one, or ANYTHING! His friends never get a chance for fame! - SammySpore

Ash is a bland, obnoxious strip of cardboard from the town of Pallet, who has little to no redeeming qualities whatsoever. His personality strikingly resembles sandpaper, and his squeaky voice kind of resembles LeafyIsHere in the most twisted way possible. All he needs is his chin hacked off, CS:GO, and a microphone, and he's basically Leafy #2. For this reason, I despise Ash. And lemme tell ya-- we don't need another Leafy in this world.

Ash is also stupid for using that Pika-object as his starter. Can't he see that battling with Pika is like buying batteries for a robot that doesn't work anymore? Ash's face also looks like it was shrunk down x2 on PhotoShop; I don't know why it's like this, but it disturbs me and it's absolutely heinous. Ash is so moronic that he'd make Wheatley from Portal 2 blush, keep in mind that Wheatley was DESIGNED to be a moron and Ash is still dumber.

In conclusion, Ash is a hideous cretin, and a foul-smelling practitioner of non-consentual ...more

I can understand if people don't like Ash because they think he is annoying or incompetent or whatever. But when people start attacking his character and spewing lies about him, I have to defend.

'Jealous loser'? That is the biggest load of crap! Have you even kept up with the anime over the years? Ash and Gary are friends now and they respect each other. Symbolized by the pokeball they broke apart and they each kept a piece.

Ash has a great attitude! And if you'd take the time to watch the show, you'd see that. Unless you're just going to take a few moments where he didn't have a good attitude, for whatever reason, and say that is his WHOLE character. 'Selfish loser'? What the heck? Ash is always doing selfless acts! That is his defining character trait! Always sacrificing for his friends and for his Pokemon, as well as for complete strangers! And he always gives the credit to his Pokemon after he wins a battle. Which he does often. Contrary to what people THINK.

If Ash could be successful in life, then why hasn't he become a Pokemon Master yet? - 906389

He is so stupid! He always chooses the Pokemon which is weak against the Pokemon he is battling! Come on, Ash! Seriously?!

It's Pokemon's 20th anniversary and Ash still hasn't even caught at least 150 Pokemon. What's the point of his name then? I could catch WAY more Pokemon in the anime than Ash can. Also, he always misses the opportunities to catch legendary Pokemon! I understand if it's an environmental reason, but how will Ash ever be a Pokemon Master without legendary Pokemon? - ModernSpongeBobSucks

All Ash is just cartoonishly confident, showcasing confidence towards a goal with no defined meaning or motive. What's worse is how after so many years of failure, Ash doesn't even have a reason to be confident. "I'm gonna win the league this time and take the next step to becoming a pokemon master! " Why? What makes this time any different from all others?

I don't hate Ash. The problem is how I have no reason to like him. This includes:
-His goal is horribly vague
-He has no defined motive behind his goal(let alone one that's likable and relatable)
-He does nothing for his friends and family(Ash will hurl himself off a cliff for a pokemon he met two minutes ago, but you'll never see him do anything like that for his friends/family-most of the time it feels like these characters exist just to explain things and to tell us how great Ash is)
-He repeatedly fails and does nothing to prevent future failure)

Now I'll admit this. All the characters had their flaws. But they eventually left in future seasons. But every damn episode these days we have a reason to hate Ash. Did no one ever notice that he's an attention hogging brat? Sure, Serena and Cilan were worse, but at least we never have to see them again! Ash and his stupid Pikachu we'll have to endure as long as this disgrace to the Pokemon franchise continues! "But Ash jumped off a building to save Pikachu! " Please don't give me any of that crap. That wasn't brave it was stupid! And Ash stole Gary's idea of restarting a journey in another region! And do you not remember when Ash had the Striaton city gym battle? What a idiot! He chose disadvantages for each one except the one he lost! And did you see how scared Oshawott was when that solar beam was going to hit him!? Ash why the hell didn't you use Tepig, that would've been so much easier! And then again... Why did he battle all three of them!? It would've been so much ...more

Who was glad Ash didn't go up against Tai in the Pokemon vs Digimon Death Battle? If it was Ash, it would have been a One Minute Melee or even a One Second Melee since he would just use Pikachu first instead of Charizard. At least Red and his Charizard put up a good fight until the end. Ash would have got wasted by Tai and would have given the Pokemon franchise a bad reputation for his incompetence.

Ash is an unlikeable character. He has a goal, but no admirable motive behind it. He talks of his goal, but isn't fully dedicated to it. Ash spend more time eating and being distracted by random problems which have nothing to do with him. Also, he travels with friends, but Ash doesn't do anything with them.

Here's how Ash compares with each region and anime character:
Kanto: Was decent in the first season, but had the lovable idiot complex of Luffy.
Johto: Same thing as Kanto.
Hoenn: Needed to get better like Goku or Naruto did.
Sinnoh: Got better in the Pokemon League as if he were Goku or Naruto.
Unova: Acted like so much more of a jerk and useless loser like Eren Yeager (even though I love him way better than Ash) and lost the Pokemon League again.
Kalos: Now he is just trying to come off as Kirito (even though I love him way better than Ash).

Conclusion: Ash is the worst character in the history of anime. Goku, Naruto, Luffy, Eren, and Kirito are quite debatable and can sometimes be considered bad and overrated characters. However, Ash is not even worthy of more respect than those guys. Those guys would only have to learn the basics of Pokemon on their first day and they would beat Ash on 10 tries without losing to that Pokemon Master wannabe.

Ash dumbs his Pokemon, takes care of only Pikachu nowadays, unlike the time when he was like "Then let's all freeze together". He doesn't even know the feelings his Pokemon feel, like the one time with the Grovyle. Adding the cherry on the cake, he put's his foot in everyone else's business.

He ditches girls in which he confesses his love and loses in battles where he as the advantage, he's the worse protagonists in all media, hell, even the Red from the Pocket Monsters manga is better than him despite the manga being a parody, you want to know what he did to make him better than Ash? He at least caught a legendary, Articuno to be exact despite he doesn't use it in battle.

I don't even care for Ash anymore. Not only do I not know why Ash is trying to achieve his goal, but Ash doesn't even seem serious in achieving his goal.

Either he needs a replacement, or he needs to win a league, then get a replacement.

Ash receives zero character focus or development. It's just "I have to help that Pokemon! " I don't even know why Ash even wants to be a Pokemon master.

I don't think he's even leveled up a ' water type Pokemon yet! Seriously? This kid... ugh, I can't stand him. They should make a new protagonist for the anime. Ash is annoying me WAY too much.
