Worst Pop Punk Bands

Theirs the greats such as blink-182 and my chemical romance but then theirs the failures!
The Top Ten
1 5 Seconds of Summer 5 Seconds of Summer are an Australian pop-rock band from Sydney, Australia, that formed in 2011. The group were originally YouTube celebrities, posting videos of themselves covering songs from various artists during 2011 and early 2012. They rose to international fame while touring with One Direction on the Take Me Home Tour.

OK the band classifies itself as pop punk but they just don't know what's its about. Their lyrics are generic I mean it's a band made up of "attractive" young males, who sing about girls and whose lyrics have no greater meaning so why aren't they number one. Little kids like them and this style of music isn't even for little kids its for teenagers. The little kids think there oh so emo and alternative but people who are teenagers not understanding the difference between alternative and pop punk and 5sos. Those people who don't understand the difference should go listen to Fall out boy, Green Day, Paramore, Blink 182, my chemical romance and panic at the disco aka real pop punk/ alternate bands who unlike 5sos don't use auto tune and shouldn't be on this list. Don't compare them to those bands unless your pointing out the obvious difference between them and although they say they are influenced by bands like Green Day they are nothing like Green Day.

They sound like a watered down version of pop punk, which itself is a watered down version of punk rock. They are just like the average boy band; their music quality is that of a boy band but they play instruments. The band sucks. Many girls at my school obsess over this band and one direction and it's extremely annoying. I've heard them having an argument with each other on whether they are a rock band or not. Well, a boy band is a pop group that usually has attractive members and appeals to teenage girls. That being said, five seconds of summer is just another lame boy band like one direction.

5SOS ain't a boy band. They started from the bottom, doing covers on YouTube and catching the attention of people who gave them the chance to tour and become famous. They are all very young (18-20) but write most of their songs by themselves and play their own songs, unlike many other bands. They deserve a lot of respect for all these things they've accomplished and shouldn't be judged because of all the hysterical groupies and fake fans; I'm not talking about the 5sos family, because these ones are the real fans, and the best ones.

Yay. A boy band. So original. Their music is TOTALLY original. Ah, screw it. Five Seconds of Summer SUCKS. Don't even get me started on their fanbase. Their fanbase makes it harder to like them. They also waste the best singer in the band having him ONLY play an instrument and sing a couple lines every once in a while. Everyone says they're punk rock, but they aren't. I've even heard someone compare them to Green Day. Where their brain went, I have no idea. I could keep going on and on but I'm going to stop here.

2 Simple Plan Simple Plan is a French-Canadian pop rock/pop-punk band from Montreal, Quebec. The band has released six albums.

I totally agree with everyone who hates this band, because Simple Plan has become more immature over the past 15-20 years, I mean, Sum 41, Green Day and Blink-182 actually were mature enough to not put out the same poppy, immature "rock" over and over again, instead they actually made music that could be considered pop-punk, alternative rock, HECK, even rock music, but Simple Plan is a different story, they don't actually sound like pop-punk, instead they sound like an immature Bowling For Soup wannabe, they make the crappiest wannabe rock music I have ever heard, and what's even worse is that all their songs sound the same (except for "Untitled", which is actually their ONLY good song), they also managed to release a new album this year and I'm pretty sure it will sound HORRIBLE! Seriously, if you want true pop-punk, listen to actually good bands like Green Day, Blink-182, Bowling For Soup, Sun 41, Yellowcard, Pre-2017 Imagine Dragons, Panic! at the Disco, Evanescence, Avril Lavigne, ...more

Geez, there is a girl in my class who thinks she's all "punk rawk" fangirling this soft-lovey-dovey-pop-rock band, gr, I hate posers so much due to the fact they haven't even heard of Sex Pistols, Guns'n'Roses, etc. And never acknowledge the fact punk was originally a protest against the Veitnemese war, and some of the protesters have DIED getting there opinion out, now, I may be aggravating it with this crazy rant but seriously, 6th graders these days, pff, I can't wait to go to grade 7 next year...

I notice that a lot of the comments against this band are getting tons of dislikes. Honestly, they're just like Good Charlotte and other mediocre pop punk bands of the early 2000s. Still don't agree with me? Go on YouTube and watch Rocked's Regretting The Past on Simple Plan and you'll understand what I mean.

Simple Plan isn't anything special or unique, and a little too whiny. On a higher note Paramore shouldn't be in first place, Fall Out Boy deserves a lower rank, blink-182 shouldn't be on here and We Are The In Crowd is a little too pop not sure if they're pop punk

3 Paramore Paramore is an American rock band from Franklin, Tennessee, formed in 2004. The band currently consists of lead vocalist Hayley Williams, guitarist Taylor York, and drummer Zac Farro.

Hayley treats the band as her solo project, the rest of the band doesn't get any credit. Ask anyone who likes Paramore, they probably just thing "Paramore" is Hayley's artist name. That's why the members of the band are changing all the time. Haley just uses them and replaces them when she feels like it.

Paramore at first place really? They're badass, they come on strong which is why most people either love or hate them. But unlike most other pop punk bands they're not so generic and actually have creativity.

This why this site isn't credible. Ranked #1 on worst pop-punk bands (unfairly, up until the self-titled album, they were simply amazing) and then #7 on best pop-punk bands.

How I feel about Paramore being on this list is complicated.
If you're saying Riot! -era Paramore is bad, what? you deaf?
If you're saying Hard Times era Paramore is bad, I wholeheartedly agree.

4 Good Charlotte Good Charlotte is an American pop-punk band from Waldorf, Maryland that formed in 1996. Since 1998, the band's constant members have been lead vocalist Joel Madden, lead guitarist and vocalist Benji Madden, bassist Paul Thomas, rhythm guitarist and keyboardist Billy Martin and drummer Dean Butterworth, who has been a member of the band since 2005. After embarking on a 4-year-long hiatus in 2011, the band announced its comeback on 3 November, 2015. The band has released five studio albums: Good Charlotte, The Young and the Hopeless, The Chronicles of Life and Death, Good Morning Revival, and Cardiology with sixth Youth Authority stated for release in July 2016, as well as two compilations: Greatest ...read more.

For starters, nothing says daddy issues like the lyrics to "The Anthem". Besides that, their instrumentation is tight, yet very simple and while their vocalist technically hits all the notes he's supposed to hit, his voice still sounds awful.

I can't even believe they are compared to Blink-182. That is like comparing The Beatles and One Direction. This band should not be compared to a masterpiece band like Blink-182, they are obviously better than Good Charlotte.

Not only one of the worst pop-punk bands, one of the worst bands period. This is the musical equivalent of belly button lint, you know it exists but you're not sure why.

Yeah good charlotte are not very good, but there are some really good talent on this list man, like simple plan, AAR, PARAMORE, FOB, NFG, and I can't believe the Sex Pistols are on here -. -

5 Fall Out Boy Fall Out Boy is an American pop punk band formed in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, in 2001. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman, and drummer Andy Hurley.

It really sucks to see such a great band get so crappy over time. This band is one where you can see the progression from good to crap, almost like a backward evolution chart, where their first album was like the human in all of its complexities, and their latest one is so dumbed down that only literal primates could possibly enjoy that shlock. In addition to this, I would like to hear some real instruments every once in a while. Even Iglooghost (an electonic artist) does that. In short, I want this band to go back to their roots and just rock out like they should.

Hey, why is Fall Out Boy on this list? They're awesome and talented! There's more to them than just a couple songs you heard on the radio, like "Centuries" or "Uma Thurman". In fact, most of their fans don't even like those songs! For the true FOB, listen to songs like "Sugar, We're Going Down", "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race", "Save Rock and Roll", "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark", and a lot more. Also, I hate it when people call them posers! They're not even emo, morons. Leave them alone!

Why are they on here? They don't belong here at all! I love them so much and I hate the fact that people call them sellouts and unoriginal... Not. True. Leave them alone and don't say anything about my muffin babies!

They are not sell-outs. Everyone is bound to change after 15 years. They are still really good and are no less talented or anything. Their old albums are amazing anyway, you have to admit.

6 All Time Low All Time Low is an American pop punk band from Towson, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore, formed in 2003. The band currently consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Alex Gaskarth, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Jack Barakat, bassist and backing vocalist Zack Merrick and drummer Rian Dawson. ...read more.

Well, they can't be Paramore rip-offs if they formed first, just saying. Paramore formed in 2005, All Time Low formed in 2003. They sound nothing like Fall Out Boy, or any others. They're unique. They don't write the same song over and over and over. I Feel Like Dancin' and Time-Bomb. Same? Not at all. Very different. A Love Like War and Remembering Sunday. Same? No. Not at all. Every song is about partying, growing up, girls? SO what? They're young. That's what they think about. Make you feel low? Just because they're name is All Time LOW doesn't mean they make sad music. Most of it is very upbeat and happy. ATL actually has quite a large male following, too. Simple Plan sucks. They're very unique and brilliant. No sense of experimentation? I Feel Like Dancin'. Have fun proving that it's just the same as all their other songs. I think they're one of the greatest bands of all time.

Joke of a list. Paramore, Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy and Simple Plan are brilliant bands. This band is a rip off of all before them. Incredibly overrated by tweens who know nothing about pop punk, their fan base is practically made up of hot topic girls who want to bang Alex Gaskarth.

These guys and the countless other bands that have singers that sound just like this are god awful. So whiney, no inflection, terrible. They started apearing like a decade ago and they keep multiplying like damn rodents.

All time low just keep writing the same song over and over again, they have no sense of experimentation. Just three chords and every song is about girls, partying, or growing up.

7 All American Rejects

More pop than anythinhg. Some songs are fairly catchy but can be seen to be very annoying. They are probably decent guys but how they are in any way punk I'll never know.

They improved with their new album kids in the street but are not punk in anyway.

They are decent. I only like a few songs by them but hey shouldn't be on this list

More pop than punk. Annoying.

8 Panic! at the Disco Panic! at the Disco was an American pop rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2004 and featuring the current lineup of vocalist Brendon Urie, accompanied on tour by bassist Dallon Weekes, guitarist Kenneth Harris, and drummer Dan Pawlovich.

Panic! is a really good band that gets a lot of unwarranted hate for just being a little bit on the emo side. If you are one of those people who hates Panic! for that reason, you should really just listen to a few of their songs like "The Emperor's New Clothes", or some of their older stuff like "I Write Sins Not Tragedies". You will probably end up looking into their lyrics to find a quite a bit of intellect behind them.

Panic! at one point actually had good background music, but now all they care about is vocals so all of their new stuff is awful. I seriously cannot name any of the instruments in the background just by hearing one of their songs.

They're amazing. They're pop punk. They change their sound with every album. If you want an example, listen to A Fever You Can't Sweat Out.

I don't like emo. I'm sorry, but I thought this was pop-punk.

9 Blink 182 Blink-182 is a pop-punk band formed in 1992. The original lineup consisted of Mark Hoppus on bass guitar and vocals, Tom DeLonge on guitar and vocals, and Scott Raynor on drums. Raynor was fired from the band in 1998 and replaced by drummer Travis Barker. They gained mainstream popularity after the release of the album "Enema of the State." The band has gone on to produce eight studio albums during... read more

Tom and mark are both terrible live musicians, (Travis to be fair is awesome) and neither of them can sing. while I do enjoy some of there songs majority of them are diabolical. respect there success but they are a crap overrated band.
- toms vocals on 'I miss you' actually make me want to rip out my ear drums and any live performance where tom is actually playing is terrible

In all honesty, blink 182 has awful vocals, bland songs that are slightly changed to make new ones, etc. These guys try to be funny, but they fail miserably and resort by running naked through the streets...

Remember the days of the Stooges and the Sex Pistols, when punk was a rebellion against the machine? Well guess what, now punk's being produced BY the machine, and Blink-182 is at the front of the line.

10 Green Day Green Day are an American pop punk/punk rock band formed in East Bay, California in 1987. The members include Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals and guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass), Tré Cool (drums) and Jason White (guitar). Green Day are associated with punk rock, pop punk and alternative rock. Some of their influences include The Ramones, Sex Pistols, NOFX, and Bad Religion. They are best known for their songs like ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’, ‘Basket Case’ and their ‘American Idiot’ & ‘Dookie’ albums. American Idiot sold 6 million copies in the U.S. and won a Grammy Award for "Best Rock Album". Green Day have sold over 75 million records worldwide and have won 5 Grammy Awards. They ...read more.

Green day gets a lot of hate for posers who "are so punk," but what people don't realize is that they have made many songs that should be counted as punk. Their older albums were full of the punk elements that made them so well known. If you don't believe me, listen to 39/Smooth, Kerplunk, Dookie, and Insomniac. I don't know about Nimrod or Warning though. It was only after American Idiot that the posers came in, and those songs were not even supposed to be punk.

Y'know, I actually like Green Day, but Green Day on this website is really annoying. You can't go on one list without Green Day being number one. People say "Green Day is the best punk band evarrr! 1! 1! " But they're not even punk. Even if they were, they wouldn't be the best. Also, Green Day didn't invent pop-punk. I'd recommend doing some research. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I like Green Day, but not their fanbase.

Green Day wouldn't bother me so much if their fans werent annoying. They always say that they are the best punk band ever when in reality, they have more of a pop-punk/alternative sound to them.

Green Day fans face it, they will never be worthy of comparison to The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, The Clash, etc.

Green Day are just corporate business man's answer to "punk rock" the fact that punk was about doing you own thing makes all punk bands posers because they took something that was true and made it mean nothing. Pop punk is going to kill punk. even the word pop punk is an oxymoron

The Contenders
11 Zebrahead Zebrahead is an American punk rock band from Orange County, California. Formed in 1995, the band has released thirteen studio albums to date.

Are you kidding me? Zebrahead are quality, and are a million times more original than ALL of the bands on this list. They can play play anything from funk, to hip-hop, to straight up punk and hard rock. Their progression on each record is astounding, and their sound is completely original. No way do they deserve to be higher up on the list than Panic, or even on the list at all.

Zebrahead is more intense than most pop-punk bands, which may drive some people away, but popularity should NEVER be used to judge a band. In fact, this band is an underrated diamond in the rough in my humble opinion.

Why would anyone even THINK to put Zebrahead anywhere on here? Seriously! Zebrahead is personally one of my favorite bands of all time. Plus, they aren't even a pop punk band. They are Rap-Rock and Punk Rock.

What about His World? From Sonic 06? It's amazing! If there was a remake, Gerard Way could cover it.

12 Busted Busted are an English pop rock band from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, consisting of James Bourne, Matt Willis and Charlie Simpson.

The lyrics are so bad that they make me laugh. Regardless, I still listen to them so...

WHAT they don't even deserve to be on this list they are so non pop punk!

13 Boys Like Girls Boys Like Girls is an American pop rock band from Boston, Massachusetts. Formed in 2005, the group gained mainstream recognition when it released its self-titled debut album.
14 A Day to Remember A Day to Remember (often abbreviated ADTR) is an American rock band from Ocala, Florida, founded in 2003 by guitarist Tom Denney and drummer Bobby Scruggs. They are known for their unusual amalgamation of metalcore and pop punk. The band currently consists of vocalist Jeremy McKinnon, rhythm guitarist Neil Westfall, bassist Joshua Woodard, percussion and drummer Alex Shelnutt and lead guitarist Kevin Skaff. They have now started writing for other bands too, they wrote 'Find My Way' for their friends band FROM INSIDE which is due out Summer 2016. Details of other projects they are working on is set to be released on their Facebook page.

This band suck! Why are good charlotte on the list any way?

This is the worst band ever! Why are bands like Paramore, all time low and good charlotte even on this list. ADTR are rubish

Worst band ever!
Wake up people

15 One Direction One Direction (commonly abbreviated as 1D) were a British-Irish pop boy band based in London, composed of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and previously, Zayn Malik until his departure from the band on 25 March 2015. The group signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records after forming and finishing third in the seventh series of the British televised singing competition The X Factor in 2010. Propelled to international success by social media, One Direction's four albums, Up All Night (2011), Take Me Home, Midnight Memories and Four topped charts in most major markets, and generated hit singles including "What Makes You Beautiful", "Live While We're Young", and ...read more.

This band is SO not pop punk! They're just a crappy boy band making crappy pop music for screaming 12 year old fangirls... Gross.

But

1D isn't even pop punk
Like I'm not a fan nor do I hate him
But that's like
What?

1D isn't even punk

16 New Found Glory New Found Glory is an American pop punk band that was founded in 1997 in Coral Springs, Florida. The band currently consists of lead vocalist Jordan Pundik, lead guitarist Chad Gilbert, bassist Ian Grushka, and drummer Cyrus Bolooki.

Why are Paramore at no1 they rock! New found glory just take the mick and could destroy pop punk if were not careful.

17 Pierce the Veil Pierce the Veil is an American post-hardcore band from San Diego, California. Formed in 2006, the band was founded by brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes after the disbandment of the group Before Today, which was formed out of the San Diego punk rock scene.

First of all, Pierce the Veil is NOT pop-punk. Whoever made this list could stand to learn a bit more about the genre before they start grouping bands in it.

Second of all, I don't understand how PTV could be included on a list of 'worst' bands considering how unique and amazing their music is. Their lyrics are surprisingly deep and intelligent, their guitars heavy and carrying a raw rock sound that'll start a mosh pit faster than lead singer of A Day To Remember shouting "DISRESPECT YOUR SURROUNDINGS."

Being one of the most popular bands among whats considered the 'emo' genre, they get a lot of hate. Although they deserve very little if any of it, as most any educated music critic listening to them would appreciate their sound and lyrics that I could never call 'generic' in the least. Or do most rock bands sing about having stained glass eyes and colorful tears and I'm just an overly sensitive emo trying to protect their favorite smol beans? Why PTV is on this list, I ...more

Dear imbeciles,

Pierce The Veil is not pop punk, much less a bad band. Have a good day.

This is post hardcore not pop punk! They ain't Evan pop. Why are they in the list?

No matter what they say Pierce the veil is a pop punk band disguised.

18 Tramp Stamps
19 My Chemical Romance My Chemical Romance is an American rock band from Jersey City, New Jersey, active from 2001 to 2013, and again from 2019 to present day. For much of their career, the band consisted of lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, bassist Mikey Way, and drummer Bob Bryar.

I don't get why they are on this list. My Chemical Romance is one of the best bands of all times. Their songs and lyrics are amazing. Whoever says they're bad is completely wrong, they've let their marks in music history. Their memory will carry on, we'll carry on. Proud killjoy.

First of all, My Chemical Romance was actually a great band and I'm proud to listen to them. Obviously this list is a total joke because The Offspring is known as one of the BEST PUNK ROCK bands in history and so are Sex Pistols.

The people who put Ramones and Sex Pistols on here must be joking. These guys aren't pop-punk, they're the greatest bands in punk history. They made punk what it is.

20 Stellar Kart
21 Breathe Carolina Breathe Carolina is an American electro pop group currently consisting of David Schmitt (vocals, keyboard), Eric Armenta (percussion) and Tommy Coops (guitar, keyboard) that formed in 2007.

In the beginning of their career, Breathe Carolina’s appearance and music was strongly influenced by the scene subculture of the late 2000s and early 2010s. In their earlier music, the group mixed elements of electronica and post-hardcore/alternative rock. Like several scene artists, Breathe Carolina rose to fame through the internet website MySpace. Unlike most scene artists, the group’s albums received mostly positive reviews praising their production and the band’s fun attitude. ...read more.

When they made "pop-punk" music, they dropped "punk" and couldn't find it again.

24 Ramones The Ramones were an American punk rock band that formed in the New York City neighborhood of Forest Hills, Queens, in 1974. They are often cited as the first band to define the punk rock sound.

They're more a brand rather than a band these days. People think they've (re)invented punk rock and saved the music industry, but to be fair, their music was repetitive, sounds pretty much the same, there's no progression of their style... Same with lyrics - idiotic, immature, with no deeper meanings, which was an important part of the punk movement.
One of the most overrated, talentless bands ever.

To the person who said that they have lazy basic songs, that is what punk is! It's supposed to be stripped down, no frills, raw music. Saying that the Ramones aren't punk because their songs are to basic is like saying you don't like the ocean because there's to much water

How can a band who invented a musical genre the worst band of that genre? Is like saying Galileo Galilei, who created the scientific method, is the worst scientist of all time...

They use the "punk" term as an excuse for their lazy and basic music which comes off as bland and tasteless. No they did not invent Punk Rock to any degree and they shouldn't even be classified punk

25 Falling in Reverse Falling in Reverse is an American post hardcore band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2008, signed to Epitaph Records. ...read more.

Falling in Reverse is definitely one of my all time favorite bands. Their music is incredible and so catchy and I sold my soul to this band.
