Worst Poser Metal Bands

The worst of the worst of the worst. Trust me, I've been a metalhead for over 10 years now and I know what I am talking about.
The Top Ten
1 Black Veil Brides Black Veil Brides is an American rock band currently consisting of Andy Biersack (vocals), Jinxx (guitar), Jake Pitts (guitar), Christian Coma (drums) and Ashley Purdy (bass), that formed in 2006 in Ohio.
In the beginning of their career, the band was heavily associated with the emo subculture, and had strong metalcore, screamo and alternative influences, however got more metal oriented over the... read more

I have dignity and ears, and I listen to Black Veil Brides. Plus how do they wear "stupid elaborate outfits"? They wear black. Plus they're not gay! The only girl member they ever had was Sandra Alva. And to the one person who said "fans don't stick up for there music" There music is truly amazing I listen to them like 24/7. I get that a lot of people like them for there looks, but I didn't know what they looked like for the first 2 or 3 weeks of listening to them. I can name any BVB song anytime.

BVB ARMY FOREVER!

After going through this list, I'm dying of laughter finding so-called self-proclaimed 'metalheads' getting pissed by finding their favorite fake metal bands in this list, and some posers would talk about being 'open-minded'. I am a metalhead and I can't tolerate pop bands claiming to be metal. unfortunately, most of the people who are going through this list are fans of mainstream music for whom metal is a phase of life, but for me, metal IS life, and so this band sucks like most on the list.

2 Avenged Sevenfold Avenged Sevenfold is an American heavy metal band, that was formed 1999 in California. Their longest lineup of members was M. Shadows (Vocals), Synyster Gates (Lead Guitar), Zacky Vengeance (Rhythm Guitar), Johnny Christ (Bass Guitar), and The Rev (Drums).

Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan (Drums), their most notable drummer, passed away in 2009, being temporarily replaced by Mike Portnoy, who was replaced... read more

What the hell. These guys aren't emo like you guys say. They're first two albums were metalcore, but after that they put out City of Evil, Avenged Sevenfold (self titled) and Nightmare. These albums were all amazing and very close to traditional metal. Syn is a wicked guitar player. Sadly, Hail The King sounded too much like everything else out there. I feel as though they lost their creative touch on that album. Not saying they are done for, they are still very talented and could put out another great album on par with the other ones if they wanted. However, even their first two albums, with the metalcore sound, were still amazing (specifically Waking the Fallen. )

Seeing this list makes me lose faith in humanity even more. Why can't people be like me and be able to listen to music ranging from alt rock to black metal without bashing on other bands for no other reason than "they're posers? " And yes, I love Avenged Sevenfold, Slayer, Korn, Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Iron Maiden, Immortal, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Suicide Silence, Chelsea Grin, Whitechapel, In Flames, Fleshgod Apocalypse and f"cling Green Day! I have an open mind, and that's something that "metalheads" today are lacking.

3 Slipknot Slipknot is an American metal band formed in Des Moines, Iowa in 1996. The band is best known as one of the pioneers of the New Wave of American Alternative Metal during the late 1990s - 2000s and are distinguishable by the band's clothing choices, consisting of black/red jumpsuits and horror inspired masks... read more

This band is very original, how someone could call them a poser band however doesn't shock me. The metal community is so blind anymore, they think everything has to sound like Iron Maiden or Metallica to be "real metal." There is no such thing as "real metal." Metal is metal, there are so many different sub genres of it. Slipknot is one of the most original bands out there today and you need to face it, as much as we all love Metallica and Iron Maiden, they will all be gone one day and the new bands have to keep the genre alive. Slipknot, Korn, A7X and Bullet For My Valentine don't need to be on this list. Also why the hell is Black Veil Brides on this list, they're glam rock, not metal.

It seems most of the people who call Slipknot "posers" like to focus on the amount of members they have and the masks. You judge bands by the music, not by the way they look. People also like to ignore the fact that the guys in Slipknot are brought up on extreme metal, and have obvious death metal influences. If they really were posers, they wouldn't wear masks, and wouldn't have 9 members. They would do what every other band does. Another thing, many, many Slipknot fans (including myself) are quite dedicated to metal and are also huge fans of death metal, black metal, thrash etc, and know there are much heavier bands out there. One last thing, while I'm no fan of BVB, PTV, or SWS, those bands shouldn't even be on here. The only people who consider them metal are people who complain about how much they're not metal. Their fans refer to them as "screamo" bands if anything.

4 Bring Me the Horizon Bring Me the Horizon is a British rock band from Sheffield, Yorkshire. Formed in 2004, the group currently consists of vocalist Oliver Sykes, guitarist Lee Malia, bassist Matt Kean, drummer Matt Nicholls, and keyboardist Jordan Fish. They are signed to RCA Records globally and Columbia Records exclusively in the US. The style of their early work, including their debut album Count Your Blessings, has... read more

A disgrace to metalcore... Well in this day in age they are pioneers of modern metal core but then again modern metal core (or as I call it post-metalcore) is horrible djent/emo techno poser so yeah. If you wanted real metal core listen to as I lay dying or killswitch engage. Those would actually be listenable on the radio at least

They are amazing. Love this band. First rock band I ever listened to. They are very talented and the lyrics are just the best. To everyone saying they are bad you have nothing better to do with life so you either hate or say rude things about stuff or bands. Leave if you don't like them because nobody gives

It was sad to see a deathcore band turning into a band for poser, scene, horny girls and now it's even more sad to see that they are now a radio-friendly pop rock boyband with the same talent as 1D. I don't like to say it because I loved them, but I guess they are the worst poser metal band ever.

5 Asking Alexandria Asking Alexandria are an English metalcore band from York, North Yorkshire formed initially in 2008 by lead guitarist Ben Bruce along with former lead singer Danny Worsnop, bassist Joe Lancaster, keyboardist and synth player Ryan Binns, and current members drummer James Cassells and rhythm guitarist Cameron Liddell. Lancaster and Binns later departed from the band in 2009 with Lancaster joining heavy... read more

These guys are the absolute worst. Bvb are basically just an average metal/ hard rock band without the bad vocals. AA on the other hand are just bad in every department from songwriting to actual musical skill. They give a bad name to the mainstream crowd of what metal actually is about.

The second worst british band on this list. This band, not only has completley changed their sound on their most recent album, but just sucks in general. The sreaming is slow and weak and the guitar overpowers everything.

I don't get why AA are on this list. I'm sick of people putting metalcore bands on this list. Metalcore bands are different to metal bands so stop comparing them.

6 Limp Bizkit Limp Bizkit is an American nu-metal/rap metal/rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 1994. Their lineup consists of Fred Durst, Sam Rivers, John Otto, and Wes Borland. They're mostly known for their singles like Break Stuff, My Way, My Generation, Nookie, Eat You Alive, Rollin', and Take a Look Around... read more

In my opinion, the only real poser metal band is Limp Bizkit, seriously, the only people that voted for bands like Slipknot are people that think real metal is only Metallica and Black Sabbath. And other Nu metal bands aren't just posers because they sound very different from other kinds of metal.

I hate calling people posers... but limp bizkit, and all the other "Nu" metal bands are posers.

Fred Durst is a pretty bad singer, but at least they have a groove to them.

7 Bullet For My Valentine Bullet for My Valentine are a Welsh metalcore band from Bridgend, formed in 1998. The band is composed of Matthew Tuck (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Michael Paget (lead guitar, backing vocals), Michael Thomas (drums) and Jamie Mathias (bass guitar). Former members include Nick Crandle and Jason James; both were on bass. They were formed under the name Jeff Killed John and started their music career... read more

Anyone who thinks their fan base is 13 year old girls is an idiot. I'm 22 years old, listen to older metal bands like Anthrax, Pantera, Testament, Iron Maiden and Slayer, and I really like this band. They are in fact a metal band and the proof is in scream aim fire which is a very thrash oriented album. Get your facts straight people! And how exactly are Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold posers? I see nothing wrong with those bands and their music is really good. If the creator of this list is really a "metalhead" like it says in the list description, they would at least appreciate and respect these bands for being metal bands without being so close minded about it.

I agree whoever wrote that all the members are little girls because it is true. They think they are the best at metal but they in my opinion are worse than Black Veil Brides. And really overrated and they are most likely rock music not metal. But seriously! Bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Mettalica, Disturbed, Iron Maiden etc. they are not the worst metal posers. But I agree with Black Veil Brides, Bullet For My Valentine, Slipknot, Godsmack etc. But this band is the worst.

8 Babymetal Babymetal is a Japanese metal idol band. Their line-up consists of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal", Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal", and Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal".

Don't let the name fool you. You know how root beer isn't beer, or how the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (a.k.a. North Korea) is anything but democratic? Well, Babymetal isn't metal. They're a bunch of prepackaged posers trying to capitalize on real metal. Real metal bands like Marduk don't have an all-powerful producer behind the scenes writing all their stuff for them or telling them how to act on stage. They write their own music, and they only deal with producers who keep their noses out of the creative process. They also don't care about marketability like Kobayashi, the dictatorial "producer" of Baby(non)metal, does.

I voted them so I could, comment I love some babymetal songs, and I love music artists like sepultura, opeth, nile, yuyoyuppe, tool, ravel, schubert, motorhead, carach angren, suffocation, juno bloodlust, agalloch, pendulum and whispered... this is alt metal, alt metal, is not about being "true metal", and listen to more of their songs, they got variety unlike amon amarth, but I listen to amon amarth more often not because they are "real metal" but because I love their music, stuff boundaries, that is the statement of babymetal and other bands of a similar vein.

9 Pierce The Veil Pierce the Veil is an American post-hardcore band from San Diego, California. Formed in 2006, the band was founded by brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes after the disbandment of the group Before Today, which was formed out of the San Diego punk rock scene.

It's my opinion that Sleeping with Sirens and Pierce the Veil are the more popular of what I like to label as "the scene kid music" type of bands. They all sound the same and are very unoriginal and makes me wonder how people can enjoy each and every one of them as if they were all something unique and special. The worst part is that they label this music as "metal."

This whiny ass band sucks so much! I hate when people think they're so metal cause they listen to this band. The lead singer sounds like he got punched in the balls before each show and his screams and growls suck.

I think PTV and SWS are amazing. I'm not saying this because I am a huge fan I'm saying this because their lyrics to all songs puts smiles on people's faces. My sister doesn't like my music but she likes some of their songs because they are very good lyrics. Idc what you all think because I KNOW they are better then you and that they are very good bands.

10 Sleeping With Sirens Sleeping with Sirens is an American rock band from Orlando, Florida currently residing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The band currently consists of Kellin Quinn, Gabe Barham, Jack Fowler, Nick Martin, and Justin Hills.

The worst thing about being your average metal/rock teenage fan is having to go to school on almost a daily basis and have to put up with Emo and what they identify as "metal". Since I have friends/acquaintances who are some of those Emo kids, I asked them what music they liked. They replied with "metal" so I asked them for some bands they listen to, they listed; Sleeping With Sirens, Pierce The Veil, The Amity Affliction, Arctic Monkeys, Panic at the disco, fall out boy, Green Day, the list goes on and on... I mean, I sort of expected them to at least have one metal band that wasn't high pitched yelling and god awful screamo that could be classified as "metal" or even "hard rock" but nope.

Their fans are always like, "Er mah gurd, they're sooo emo and metal! " Guess what, idiots? Emo and metal are two completely different things, and of course, Sleeping With Sirens is neither. They're generic pop-punk, and Kellin Quinn gets credit in the metalcore world because he will occasionally scream. He's a good singer, but he absolutely cannot scream correctly. But back to my point - I wouldn't even normally vote for them here, because they aren't even posing as metal. The band knows who they are, generic pop-punk. But the fans... Silly fangirls, learn your genres before calling a band like this metal/emo/screamo.

Metal = Slayer, old Metallica, Iron Maiden, Pantera
Emo = Taking Back Sunday, Jimmy Eat World, Hawthorne Heights
Screamo = Orchid, Pg.99, Circle Takes the Square
Sleeping With Sirens is pop-punk, just like Blink-182 and Green Day.

The Contenders
11 Falling In Reverse Falling in Reverse is an American post hardcore band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2008, signed to Epitaph Records. The current members include the former Escape The Fate singer Ronnie Radke, Max Georgiev, Christian Thompson and bassist Wes Horton III. Former members of the band include Derek Jones (1984 - 2020), Ryan Seaman, Ron Ficarro, Max Green, and Jacky Vincent.

They sound good live, but not in the studio. The guitarist is honestly a much better singer than Radke, who doesn't even make a good rapper or lyricist. Moreover, they somehow try to mix their "metal" with pop-punk and trap, which is impossible to do. It appeals only to teenage girls who don't know who Slayer is, and think that Radke is cute. He isn't though, because of his terrible music, drug abuse and history of violence. 2/10, needs a line-up and music change. I wouldn't even call them a poser metal band, I'd just call them clueless and ignorant.

If you listen, the instrumentals are actually good. The guitar and bass solos are mind blowing, and the drummers' not half bad. The real problem with this band is only two words: RONNIE RADKE. The sadder part about this is that he is the one that gets all of the attention because he is "so hot." He has an annoying, not that good of a voice, and he is a complete douche. MUSIC IS ABOUT SOUND, NOT LOOKS.

12 Linkin Park Linkin Park is an American alternative rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California, in 1996. The current members include Mike Shinoda (vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar), Brad Delson (guitar), Dave "Phoenix" Farrell (bass), Joe Hahn (DJ), and Rob Bourdon (drums). Linkin Park is associated with a mixture of alternative rock, hip hop, and techno. Some of their influences include Nine Inch Nails, Deftones,... read more

The problem with this selection here is the radio hits that this song produced. Songs like numb and heavy were songs that had good radio reception but not good fan reception. The "metal heads" who designated these songs with the entire band should not call them self's that. They may have gone in a different direction with the 4th And up albums, but isn't being a metal head about understanding metal as a whole? You can't just take 2 songs and give it to the whole group.

I honestly don't think they're horrific. But I don't see why they are getting so much popularity. I've heard a lot of their music. The only one I've actually kind of liked a small bit was "Somewhere I Belong". That's it. Nothing else. System of a Down should have WAY more popularity than Linkin Park. I mean, B.Y.O.B. , Revenga, P.L.U.C.K. , Question, Soldier Side, Lonely Day, Lost in Hollywood, The Prison Song, Hypnotize, Holy Mountains, Sad Statue, COME ON, PEOPLE! (by the way, Serj and Daron have great vocals)

13 Drowning Pool Drowning Pool is an American Nu-Metal band formed in Dallas, Texas in 1996. The band was named after the film The Drowning Pool.

Ever since Dave died, they went downhill hard. Not really posers though. Rest in peace, dude you were one of a kind.

I rather put tapeworms in my damn guitar then to listen to another song from Drowning Pool.

Just more major label hard rock marketed towards 12 year olds who get bullied.

14 Marilyn Manson

Marilyn Manson shouldn't be on this list, because he never claimed to be 'Metal'. He is more Industrial Rock/Metal. And all his albums are different like Portrait of an American Family is Alternative Metal, Mechanical Animals is Glam Rock, Golden Age of Grotesque is Industrial, and so on. So I don't think they should be on this list. Either way they rock!

If I wanted to put headphones on and listen to someone scream, I'll just watch a horror movie. Most of music videos are practically horror movies gone Edward Scissorhands anyway. Also, why would a man, a man who is not transgender, parade around wearing fake silicone breasts and makeup? Most women don't wear that much makeup in a whole week.

Not up to date with his new stuff, but was a huge fan back in the day. I don't think Manson is metal though, and I'm not sure he ever claimed to be? I kind of like the way goth kids react when his name is brought up "No I don't like Manson, he isn't even goth you know! Bla bla bla"... Where else would I get my laughs D:?

15 Disturbed Disturbed is an American alternative metal/nu-metal/hard rock band from Chicago, Illinois. The band comprises vocalist David Draiman, bassist John Moyer, guitarist Dan Donegan, and drummer Mike Wengren. They are known for songs like "Down With the Sickness" and "Stricken".

Yes Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed are poser metal. I don't know if I would call disturbed posers per se because I don't believe they tried to be "metal", but their fans are among the biggest posers out there. You soft ears might be confused because it sounds heavy, but I can pretty much say as a rule if its played on the radio, its not metal. Even when metallica comes on the radio its usually from the black album, which just isn't metal.

Okay... Whoever put Disturbed on this list OBVIOUSLY went on Wikipedia to find bands to put on this list. If you REALLY listened to Disturbed, you would know that they are Alternative metal. they are not "posers", and "Metalhead_100", who are you to decide that they are, maturely named, "caca"? And P. S: Its spelled kaka.

Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold are posers?... , More faith in humanity has been lost due to the breathtaking number of stupid people in this world.

16 Godsmack Godsmack is an American alternative metal/hard rock band from Lawrence, Massachusetts, formed in 1995. The band is composed of founder, frontman and songwriter Sully Erna, guitarist Tony Rombola, bassist Robbie Merrill, and drummer Shannon Larkin.

I've never understood the hate towards godsmack, they do not try nor claim to be metal, they are just hard rock. And this is coming from a metal purist that believes every other band on this list deserves to be here.

They are just awesome...nothing more to say

What? Why are they on here? They're metal.

17 Five Finger Death Punch Five Finger Death Punch, often shortened to Five Finger or Death Punch, also abbreviated as 5FDP or FFDP, is an American metal band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Formed in 2005, the band's name comes from the kung fu movie The Five Fingers of Death.

Some of the worst songwriting I've ever heard in my life. Every riff sounds exactly the same and the lyrics are so stupid they make me want to vomit. If you're older than 8 and have an IQ higher than 20, you should stay away from this awful band.

They try to act extreme and hardcore, from their name to the brass knuckles on every album. The lyrics and guitar is in no way innovative, I mean come on. Mainstream crap producing punks.

Dude, on a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being not so extreme and 10 being extremely extreme, I give this a 9.5!

18 Dope

They are nu metal/industrial. Calling this band metal is like calling korn and nine inch nails metal.

19 Motley Crue Mötley Crüe is an American metal band formed in Los Angeles, California on January 17, 1981. The group was founded by bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee, lead vocalist Vince Neil and lead guitarist Mick Mars.

Glam metal is one of the most poser things ever created. It's not metal, it just pretends to be. It's the MTV version of hard rock. Nowhere near metal.

With hits like Enter Sandman, Every Rose Has Its Thorne, and We Will Rock You... How could anyone ever lump the great MC in with the rest of these posers?

Their first two albums are glam metal classics. No way you can go wrong with Shout At The Devil. After that, not so much.

20 Poison Poison is an American glam and hard rock band that achieved great commercial success in the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s.

Most glam bands don't claim to be metal. Honestly the only thing that makes metalheads really despise glam metal is the label "metal." Had it been labeled just "rock," it wouldn't get half the hate it has right now.

Glam was the nu-metal of the 80s. Neither of them are metal, there is no such thing as Glam metal, Hair metal, or nu-metal because none of those bands are metal. The correct terms are Glam rock & nu-rock.

Don't really think Poison deserve to be here, just look at all the other crappy nu-metal bands out there that could be ranked much higher on the poser scale.

21 Cannibal Corpse Cannibal Corpse is a American death metal band from Buffalo, New York, formed in 1988. The band is known for their graphic album covers, explicitly violent lyrics and song titles like "I C** Blood" The group got into mainstream after performing the song "Hammer Smashed Face" in the 1994 film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. In 1995, vocalist Chris Barnes left the band to focus on his new death metal project... read more

Cannibal Corpse may have a lot of "fans" who basically blast their music to boast how edgy and "brutal" they are, and consequently gave death metal a bad name, but Cannibal Corpse is still real metal. Not poser.

Stupid 14 year old asking alexandria fans thinking that the music they listen to is "brutal" hating on the real brutal bands. I can't believe how many idiots there are on this planet.

I'll are putting the poser name on bands you don't like. I don't like Cannibal Corpse, so now they're posers. Fight fire with fire.

22 Suicide Silence Suicide Silence is an American deathcore band from Riverside, California. Formed in 2002, the band has released four full-length studio albums, one EP and eleven music videos.

From what is considered to be a "Emo band" I don't mind them as much as the other "Emo bands". Although the only song by them I really can listen to is Cease to Exist, and even then it's not anything amazing. The lyrics are piss poor, the vocals are literally some guy destroying his vocal cords, and the instrumentals are uncordinated and sloppy.

Get out of here. I have no problem with you people not liking this band, but to claim they're not metal is just utterly dumb. You either haven't listened to it or just don't like them to an unhealthy extent. I don't really like anything after The Cleansing but it's metal.

Think of it this way. They're a popular force in modern music to an extent. and they kind of keep death metal alive in a way. I listen to bands like morbid angel and death and cannibal corpse, I think they've carved a good niche. Just because they have breakdowns doesn't mean they aren't metal.

23 Behemoth Behemoth is a Polish blackened death metal band from Gdańsk, formed in 1991. They are considered to have played an important role in establishing the Polish extreme metal underground.

Behemoth were Metal when they were in middle school. Behemoth have been playing Black and Death Metal longer than the rest of the poser bands on this list. Behemoth rose in popularity, yes, but they've been devoted to Metal earlier in their lives than most bands in existence.

Black metal is just the worst. Too much image and not enough substance. This is coming from a death metal lover so its not the format I don't like, it's the application.

Change your religion to the newest most "unconformist" trend and release an album about it, and try to sound 2deep4u. That is the new Behemoth album formula.

24 Static-X Static-X formed in Los Angeles in 1994. The band had many lineup changes, but the main vocalist and guitarist throughout has been frontman Wayne Static. Other well-known members of Static-X include Tony Campos (bassist), Ken Jay (drummer), and Koichi Fukuda (guitarist). The final lineup of Static-X did not include any of these people, instead there was Ashes (guitarist), Andy Cole (bassists), and... read more

I don't know whats worse about these guys, the fact that every song sounds the same or that they look like the offspring of fred durst and a jugalo. I want to grab their singer by his stupid hair and throw him into the pit of despair every time this generic bro metal pollutes my airwaves.

Slipknot is "poser" metal? I bet if you went to a Slipknot concert, you'd change your mind pretty quickly about that. The pure aggression of their music is very, very real. If they're not a metal band, I don't know who is.

Why is this band on the list. Static-X are real metal and are way better than this poser mall core trash (I can admit A7X are a good band even though they're mallcore not metal). And why are Metallica, Sodom and Megadeth so high up the list?

25 Dragonforce DragonForce are a British power metal band based in London, England. Formed in 1999, the group are known for their long and fast guitar solos, fantasy-themed lyrics, and electronic sounds in their music to add to their retro video game-influenced sound.

Alright. ZP Theart's not a metal vocalist. But would you say Herman Li's guitar riffs are not metal? If not what is it then. Rapid chord progressions, fast alternate picking, some tremolo picking, sometimes some tapping, heavily uses of metal power chords, his scales, his complex arpeggios, legatos. All these are not metal? He may be a poser fast guitarist. But not poser metal. At least give me one reason what is not metal in his guitar riffs/solos?

As a fan of actual power metal, I can't tell you how annoyed I am by dragonforce. OK, we get it, you know how to play guitar fast. Now try writing songs with actual meaning and emotion and complexity like Angra, Rhapsody, Dark Moor, Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, Edguy, Hibria, Helloween, and especially Symphony X (best metal band- listen to the Damnation Game and it will change your view of Prog and Power metal)

DF is real metal. Just because they're more mainstream than other power metal bands doesn't make them poser. And no, they do not fake their sound. Sure, they may have sucked live back then, but now they fixed themselves.
