Top 10 Worst Theatrical Dreamworks Animated Movies

The Top Ten
1 The Boss Baby

The day I first heard of this movie's existence was what truly made me realize DreamWorks has now gone downhill. Seriously, is this the best that DreamWorks could come up with? They've made memorable movies like Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, etc.. But now a movie about a talking boss baby? Not only was the movie heavily advertised to the point of irritation, but the movie itself isn't really that great, especially compared to previous DreamWorks movies that were massive hits. I don't think it's as awful or overly pandering as The Emoji Movie, but The Boss Baby was of intermediate quality at best. But at the end of the day, we all know DreamWorks can do better than this. They really need to step up their game if they're ever going to escape their downward spiral into mediocrity.

BOSS BABY SUCKS! This is one of the worst movies I've seen this year! What was Dreamworks thinking!? Alec Baldwin playing a baby is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard! The animation is mediocre at best, the characters are irritating, and the story is uncreative! There is nothing original about it! It has a very predictable story that we've seen a million times! A kid who likes spending time with his parents ends up getting jealous of a baby that they adopted because the baby takes the attention away from him. The premise is very similar to Toy Story! There are a bunch of jokes in the movie but they are very childish! I don't remember laughing once throughout the entire film! I hate this movie so much! There is nothing redeeming about it! Terrible movie! But still better than the Emoji Movie.

Talking Babies how many have we had Rugrats, Stewie Griffin, Mega Babies. What next classic 90s little girls toy Mimi and the Goo Goo's becomes a cartoon T.V. series or film.

What you're about to read is not fake! Just recently dreamworks is planning to make a boss baby sequel in 2021. Will it improve? I don't know

2 Shark Tale

Fun fact: This movie came out on my birthday. Just so you know. Shark Tale is very dumb. An absolutely terrible movie. Will Smith plays a fish who becomes famous after supposedly slaying a shark. By the way, the design of the fish is creepy! Just look at it! It is such a terrible design! They tried to make the characters look like fish with the faces of real people! It doesn't work! There are a lot of pop culture references that kids might not get. They try to throw in a bunch of Godfather and Jaws references whenever they can. There are also tons of moments where it tries too hard to be cool and hip because they think kids dig that kind of stuff. Also, Will Smith's character is such a jerk! He make some very idiotic and terrible choices that makes me wonder how we're supposed to like the character! Dreamworks definitely jumped the shark with this one.

Have you ever seen the animated musical Help! I'm a fish/A Fish Tale.
I'm a little yellow fish in the deep blue sea will somebody help me.

I thought it had great message, and I love the sharks especially Frank, this is another overhated Dreamworks movie.

It's like DreamWorks took everything that was good about Finding Nemo and made it worse.

3 Trolls

Yeah, I added two Justin Timberlake movies on this list. I understand that people really like this film, but I was not impressed by it. The animation is beautiful, I'll give it that. But the story and characters are horrible! This movie is just an extended music video! None of the songs are even original! Except for Can't Stop the Feeling which was nominated for an Oscar. This movie felt like one of those fake movies that you see in cartoons that just show colors and cutesy imagery with no effort because they are just shown in the background and not the main focus. There was no imagination put into this! Anna Kendrick is one of the worst actresses ever! I thought Timberlake was a little tolerable though. I have no idea why it's getting a sequel.

I hate this movie and how the hell is over the hedge counted as a bad movie? It's great and sharktale is ok too but this is obnoxious and annoying

I liked this movie but it's my opinion

I liked it! But that's your opinion!

4 Shrek the Third

I'm pretty sure I laughed more while watching Grave of the Fireflies than I ever have while watching this, and that's never a good sign in regards to the quality of this movie.

So after the masterpiece that was Shrek 2, they decided to make a third movie! And it sucked! This was the first Shrek movie to actually be considered bad. I personally liked Shrek Forever After but I know a lot of people hate it. Compared to Shrek 2, this was a huge step backward. Basically, just by looking at the scene with some frogs singing "Live and Let Die" at the king's funeral, you can tell that the movie isn't going to be good. Also, that could've been a pretty emotional scene but it got ruined by a bad joke. The movie has a very weak plot in which Shrek has to find a kid named Artie who must take over as king. By the way, Artie is voiced by Justin Timberlake. And this isn't the only Dreamworks movie he's in. It's not a horrible plot, but it's underwhelming compared to the first two. Most of the jokes are very childish. I also thought Prince Charming was a horrible villain. Honestly, this moviecwas very disappointing and definitely the worst Shrek movie.

I remember liking the first two Shrek movies and I'm pretty confident they'll still hold up to me to this day if I were to watch them again. However, I think I never watched the third film or it must have been pretty forgettable to me. And honestly, I actually liked Shrek Forever After like MegaSoulhero said. Maybe if I watch Shrek the Third, I'll have a better opinion on if it's bad or not, though I'll most likely find it to be the worst installment in the Shrek franchise. Here's to hoping Shrek 5 doesn't suck...

Shrek 2 is not a masterpiece.
Some movies don't need sequels just because they could have new characters like Puss in Boots and we meet Fiona's parents.
Watching Shrek 1 on ITV2 it makes the sequel and later ones fanfiction.

5 Home (2015)

This movie is annoying. Absolutely annoying. Rihanna should really stick to singing. Acting isn't her thing. Also, the amount of Rihanna songs that are put in the film is ridiculous! And most of them are very misplaced! If you thought the Phil Collins songs in Brother Bear were misplaced, these are even worse in my opinion. I was really annoyed by the character, Oh. The way Oh talks got on my nerves real quick. He constantly talks with grammatical errors. At first I thought it was funny, but I started getting sick of it. I also thought the ending was really dumb. I'll give it credit though. The animation is very colorful. And there are some heartfelt moments. But overall, this wasn't a good movie.

I hate this sickly overrated movie! We don't need this film! This film barely takes critism and makes me lose brain cells! I hate the Boovs in this film, their faces are so disappointing! I will never watch this disappointing movie again!

Am I The Only One Who Likes This Movie?

Most definitely! This movie sucks!

6 Over the Hedge

A movie about cute adorable animals! That can't be bad! Oh, it's bad! I actually kind of liked this movie as a kid. But looking at it now, it kind of sucks. Most of the movie is just the animals trying to receive food from the humans since RJ owes a bear. It gets a little boring after a while. There are a lot of celebrity voices in this but they aren't given good dialogue. The jokes aren't even that funny. There were a few I laughed at though. Even the title doesn't make any sense. It's called "Over the Hedge" but throughout the movie, they're going "through" the hedge! The story is also very predictable. Considering none of the other animals know that they are getting food just to give to a bear, we know that RJ will eventually confess and the others will get mad at him. We know how it's gonna happen! This could've been a good movie, but the execution was horrible.

It's an average movie with a predictable plot and RJ is unlikable. However, I did like the soundtrack

I Like This Movie

7 Turbo

It's a ripoff of Cars! Except it has snails! So we're supposed to believe that after some sort of accident, a snail got the ability to move fast? Also, how did he even survive? This movie is very unoriginal. It's the same "character has a dream and ends up following that dream" plot that we've seen a million times. The snail characters are forgettable, the human characters are even more forgettable than the snail characters but are still slightly more tolerable. Actually, the best thing about the movie was the Samuel L. Jackson snail. But that's because it's Samuel L. Jackson. He's the best thing about any movie he's in. I really wanted to like this movie, but it was very mediocre.

This was my favorite movie when I was 10 and it's still one of my favorites to this day! by the way I don't see how this is a ripoff of anything.

This movie's so overrated and a rip-off of Cars, AND Planes.

Am I the only one who liked this movie?

8 Penguins of Madagascar

The penguins were my favorite characters in the Madagascar movies! I also really liked the show on Nickelodeon! So I was excited that they got their own movie! But it turned out to be pretty bad! The story was bad, the jokes weren't funny, and the villain was forgettable. Again, I really liked the show, and this movie does not do it justice! This is the first time that I didn't care for these penguins. I really enjoyed Benedict Cumberbatch's character though. This movie definitely could've been a lot better.

Um. Hate to break it to ya, it's a spin off, not a prequel.

This movie was boring to me

Worst prequel ever!

9 Antz

This movie has definitely aged the worst out of the Dreamworks films. I mean, just look at the animation. I'm sure it was impressive when it came out, but looking at it now, it doesn't hold up. The actors do a pretty great job, but there aren't very many moments that stand out. I got bored halfway through. It has an original story but it could've been a lot better. There is also quite a lot of swearing for a kids film. That's not a negative, I just wanted to point that out. If anything, I actually like the amount of swearing put in the film. Personally, I prefer A Bug's Life.

Perfect cast, amazing score, memorable characters, sharp dialogue, adult themes and top notch voice acting! What is just so bad about this flick?

Its not a rip off of a Bugs Life.
Antz October 2, 1998
A Bugs Life November 25 1998

Ripoff of A Bug's Life. Jeez, this was just unoriginal.

10 Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted

Madagascar was good, Madagascar 2 was great, and Madagascar 3 was pretty bad. Well, there are some pretty entertaining moments and some pretty funny moments. I mainly thought that most of the characters were very irritating in this one. Especially Marty. I also didn't enjoy the villain at all. She was basically a ripoff of Cruella De Vil. There's this one subplot in which King Julien falls in love with a bear. Not only is it stupid, it's disgusting! There were too many rushed moments and some of the jokes kind of fell flat. I still really enjoy the first two Madagascar movies, but this one was really disappointing.

This was so dissapointing, I don't get it why people like this movie, it was so political that a bear can fall in love with a lemur.

Seriously? This is one of the better ones.

But this movie was great...

The Contenders
11 Trolls World Tour

If you're a 22 year old male whose favorite movie of all time is Trolls World Tour, then you really need to go outside and touch grass and grow a pair.

Compared to this unholy abomination of cinema, Teen Titans Go to the Movies looks as great as Ratatouille.

This movie is so mind-numbingly boring and unengaging that it makes The Good Dinosaur look like Hercules.

Worst DreamWorks sequel alongside Spirit Untamed and Shrek the Third.

12 Monsters vs. Aliens

I don't necessarily think that the movie itself is bad or of mediocre quality. But as for its animated T.V. series based off of it, that show was probably the worst you could get with a DreamWorks movie-based animated series.

13 Bee Movie

It's Memes Are Awesome, But The Movie Is Only So So

This was great guys!

Amazing movie

14 Mr. Peabody & Sherman

This was mediocre at best but way overhyped

Why isn't this higher?

This was good.

15 The Prince of Egypt

Very beautifully animated! Alright, my previous comment was immature! but it's a decent movie in my opinion! But I prefer Antz!

16 How to Train Your Dragon

To be honest, the whole HTTYD franchise is the most overrated thing to come out of DreamWorks. Yeah you could say Shrek is, but more people praise HTTYD. I don't get the hype. I've seen the movies and I've found them all to be INCREDIBLY boring. It's not as good as people say it is, I found myself halfway falling asleep throughout it because it was so boring. The characters are bland, and the movies just drag on (no spelling pun intended). Total waste of time.

I watched this movie as a kid, and it was just boring.

17 Shrek Forever After

Then what will be the reactions to Shrek 5, whatever that will be about? The baby ogres and dronkeys are older around childhood? How about character similar to Harry Potter lol. Young boy with glasses can cast spells with wand. Who knows, who even knows what the film is called besides Shrek 5.

18 Captain Underpants

This movie isn't even out yet.

19 Joseph: King of Dreams

This wasn't released in theaters

20 Kung Fu Panda
21 How to Train Your Dragon 2

A GAY character, in a KIDS movie? What is America trying to do; MAKE children either laugh, or say "Ew, Gross! "? I don't think that's a suitable subject, for children..mostly because they're too young to know!

They should have rated this film "PG-13", just in case!

If I was a parent, I'd rather allow my kids play the "Halo" games. AT LEAST it doesn't make some sick joke, out of people born differently!

22 Madagascar
23 Flushed Away

This is a good movie, also underrated as well

This was a great movie! It was Aarman's first cgi aniomated movie!

24 Kung Fu Panda 3
25 Shrek
