Actually happened once in 1968. After the 200m final, Gold Medallist Tommie Smith and Bronze Medallist John Carlos, in the medal ceremony, did the Black Power Salute while the American anthem was playing. Spectators became racist against them and starting shouting insults and throwing stuff at them, and they both got kicked out of the Olympics. The Silver Medallist, Peter Norman, helped by wearing an OPHR badge, which Tommie and John were part of.
