1 The crash of 1983
2 Atari rejects Nintendo's deal

Nintendo was to sign a deal with Atari to make their Famicom get sold in the US. However, Atari discovered Donkey Kong running on a Coleco console. As a result, Atari rejected Nintendo's deal. Nintendo then went at it on their own and released the Famicom in the US as the NES. This revived the industry, and Atari missed out on it.

3 Nintendo abandons a CD add-on for the SNES… TWICE!

Nintendo tried making an add on for their SNES with Sony, but bailed for Phillips. As a result, Sony made the finished project the PlayStation. Nintendo also snuffed Phillips, resulting in their CD-I system.

More copies of the game were made than consoles sold at the time, thinking the name would sell it. However, what it was, was an unfinished prototype with horrible sound effects and flickering ghosts.
