Browsing YTV XXI ''Top 20 Most Disappointing Video Games of the Decade''

Lately I have noticed Watchmojo has expanded their lists to 20 now. Making me look into some of their more recent lists. While for the most part they are on point for the most part. This one got me debating what was truly the 20 most disappointing games of the last decade. I was stunned at the amount of games that were left out so let's take a look.

Reactions:

#20 Dead Island - I have only heard of it, but never actually played it. Based on what there saying though its made by the same guys who did that awful Retribution game two years later.

#19 Crackdown 3 - Yeah I could see that, how long it took to finally come out as a Microsoft exclusive, and that ''development hell'' really pushed hard enough for it to be labeled a slight disappointment. Looks to be unlikely we get a 4th game even if they tried.

#18 The Order: 1886 - I have heard of this game it just looked boring to me from the gameplay I saw of it. There's a few games on this list that (maybe this is just my way of viewing it) Where once I seen good enough evidence of how the game would turn out I just avoided it all together this was one of those of the few coming up.

#17 Shenmue III - Its too soon, and I already disagree with this entry. Yes they pushed it pretty late in the decade, and that it was labeled a kickstarter, but they actually got the game to release, and I actually enjoyed this game competeling the epic trilogy we finally get after almost two decades.

#16 No Man's Sky - When I first saw this game I was already not interested. I gotta be honest it looked like a lame flight simulator. Instead its a flopped survival game? Oddly it has a sequel as well. Just to trot a sequel nobody would dare to play.

#15 Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite - Wasn't it a Given that this game was gonna have a hard live up to the 3rd game? I have seen trailers of this game, and that's basically all I can sum incredibly hard live up sense.

#14 Death Stranding - Really? This game looks visually stunning, and a great example of heading into this 4K big screen in the right leap into the next decade. Apparently there's a skippable feature it did not have when it launched. Well I guess that's not the only game to have suffered from this, but way too soon to be on this list.

#13 Mighty No. 9 - Yeah I definitely always hear this game always being among the most disappointing. It has that Mega Man feel, but in the not so classic variety is what most put it their passionate takes.

#12 Star Fox Zero - Back to back 2016 games, compared to Adventures which is the more disappointing? While that game wa sin the 2000's this is the sole Star Fox game in the 2010's that's up high in the mid portion of the list. Probably would still put this on the list, but a tad lower because they went back to what they did in 64 comparing these two.

#11 Resident Evil 6 - At least Resident Evil 5 was still good enough that it gets a pass. 6 on the other hand does not get that luxury. This is where I initially believed this was gonna be the ed for the franchise instead this game was just so not of the live expectation that the next few games after this were far more enjoyable.

#10 Mass Effect 3 - At the time yes, but after 8 years later no. I say because there's another Mass Effect game you could say is more worthy and that's Andromeda. Many expected that game to be solid enough, but not god awful as it turned out. This game yes it had one of the worst ending ever, but overall its still a good game.

#9 Metroid: Other M - The one really big case of a ''black sheep'' in a franchise. This Metroid game was so bad ''its a dull, uninspired, insult to the series with a story that destroys the character of the series protagonist. The gameplay is mediocre, controls poorly, and is mostly automated.'' A even more a strong case for top 5 you could argue for as well.

#8 SimCity (2013) - Not sure if I agree with it being that high. Yeah there's the classic title on PC. Yet I could never get into it.

#7 Final Fantasy XIII - I got nothing on this one, but its another Final Fantasy game.

#6 Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale - Hey guys let's go make an all star Sony game where its mostly a lamer attempt to compete with Nintendo's epic Super Smash series. As you could presume not nearly as great, and thus yeah I could see the claim for this being top 10.

#5 Anthem - A tad high, but that's just because I knew it would fail the way it was compared to two specific games (Destiny, and Mass Effect). Its not unique in anyway, and yet that Apex Legends game died pretty quickly didn't it huh EA?

#4 Fallout 76 - Oh yeah the prequel that almost destroyed an entire fanbase. Fallout 76 is one of the most irritating games in history, and its more notable as you get a ton of fans actually cheering this game is even more disturbing.

#3 Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) - Now if this list was made in mid 2018 I would agree with this high spot, but now I definitely do not. They actually redeemed themselves. Unlike the other EA games on this list, the developers actually listened to the major outcry. Why am I defending this entry? They fixed the long load times, they got rid of the transactions originally put in. Even better no DLC to pay for I considering that very redeemable. Put it on the low end, and look at in right now I was surprised revisiting this game in 2020. The only cons I have are the weird patches and glitches other than that its tough to say the 3rd most disappointing game of the decade.

#2 Aliens Colonial Marines - A disgrace to the Alien games in general, always regarded as the worst in the franchise, and its greatest disappointment of all time. Awful A.I., and just overall bad gameplay to go around.

#1 Duke Nukem Forever - Well everything to this point was all out of whack, and now we get to the top selection which I do agree deserves it a ton is Duke Nukem Forever. Simply for the fact at the time it played like your typical generic modern First Person Shooter. unlike 3D where you could switch your weapons efficnetly try playing this now and wash it up with polished graphics, If this was made in 2001 it would have probably been fine in its prime, but like I said in the past fast forward 10 years later Call of Duty and Halo's popularity was at their highest here comes old man Duke, and this game completely blows big time. Its likely we will never get a new game of this sort again. Instead will just get newer updates on its greatest game in the franchise which is for the better.

There's the list now let's examine what missed the cut...

Halo 4 - The game that honestly has made me famous. I still feel its a major disappointment being the first game that started the whole 343 trilogy (if you would prefer to call it that). Unbalanced multiplayer, sure the campaign may not be as horrible as the 5th game. I had hoped for more, quit after a month with this game. Sheer disappointment!

Destiny - After finally breaking away from Halo comes Destiny, and I really tried giving this a chance, but after letting it sit yeah Destiny was an utter disappointment in all phases. Boring and repetitive gameplay. Should have made the list honestly. I mean talk about generic characters that's literally this game. Only Anthem took that generic look to new level so you can thank this game for doing so.

Mass Effect: Andromeda - Like I said previously I would switch this with 3 and that would make a bit more sense.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Probably the most controversial choice to mention yes. Overtime more members joined this site and I have noticed they actually liked this game. Well here's my experience with this game. Its not the necessarily for the multiplayer or its campaign. Mainly the Zombies mode is what bummed me out the most playing it. Its basically one whole map, and in three different variations as you whole choice is absolutely ridiculous. Yeah and to get all the other maps cost real money that's why I loathe this game to this day and why Call of Duty in my eyes has gone downhill since MW3.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 - Last one I want to mention, and I honestly can't believe this didn't make the list was Pro Skater 5. You talk about a series that had great staying power in the 2000's. Here it is making its little brief revival in the early to mid portion of the decade only to fall to its demising death.

There's the list its one where debate lies within your own perspective. Based on the reaction the audience is mostly on the fence of what made it compared to the criteria feels like most of the 2019 games made it out over games that have been out much longer. Thanks for reading up, and i'll see you next time.
