Top 10 Zelda Cliches that Breath of the Wild Thankfully Subverts

The Top Ten
Automated gameplay
Annoying helper characters

HEY LISTEN! I was worried the moment I woke up in the Shrine of Resurrection that some fairy would fly over and start shouting at me to listen.

Being ridiculously easy while also allowing you to accumulate extremely excessive amounts of health throughout the game with little to no effort (also a major problem with the Metroid series, honestly)
Barren, empty, pointlessly oversized overworlds
Shields that literally block just about everything for you (well, besides the Hylian Shield, but even it eventually breaks)

It's kind of unrealistic but at the same time nice because you don't have to have the best stuff in the game to not die.

Forceful shoehorning of console-specific gimmicks into the game (besides the platform-tilting puzzles in the Apparatus shrines)
Combat encounters consisting solely of "wait for enemy to leave an opening, then attack"
Shops being overall completely useless
Constantly having your wallet full
"(insert here) Temple" dungeons
The Contenders
Link wearing tunics and only tunics
Making the entire storyline revolve around a cloyingly stereotypical "good VS evil" conflict
Having to find Pieces Of Heart to upgrade your health
Link being unable to naturally jump via player input
Enemy AI that always follows the exact same repetitive, extremely predictable patterns
Bosses that not only have insultingly obvious weak points but also require virtually no actual skill in order to beat them

Honestly, though some bosses look terrifying, they aren't so terrifying when they've been shot in the eyes literally three times and are now on the floor giving death speeches.

Constantly obsessing over the Triforce and Master Sword
Railroaded overworld exploration (made literal in Spirit Tracks)
Irritating overabundance of "shoot eye/switch with arrow" puzzles throughout the dungeons
Being constantly forcefed hearts from everything
Lack of proper full-scale voice acting for the characters (even though Zelda's voice in this game was horrendous)
Having to deal with the stupid magic meter (which has now been effectively replaced by the stamina meter)
Lack of properly developed fast-travel systems
Having to roll around constantly when traveling on foot, simply because there's no sprint button
The infamous "Forest, Fire, Water" dungeon cliche
