Animals that are Worst Adapted to Their Environment

The Top Ten
Panda The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca), also known as the panda bear (or simply the panda), is a bear species endemic to China.
It is characterised by its bold black-and-white coat and rotund body. The name "giant panda" is sometimes used to distinguish it from the red panda, a neighboring musteloid... read more

We spend so much money trying to save pandas. Pandas do not want to breed, and people literally had to show panda pornography to encourage them to mate.

Also, it is very common for mothers to accidentally kill their own babies.

Pandas are so dumb. I feel bad for their two brain cells that the whole species shares.

Koala The koala is an arboreal herbivorous marsupial native to Australia. It is the only extant representative of the family Phascolarctidae and its closest living relatives are the wombats.

Koalas are so dumb that they literally refuse to eat food unless it is on a stem.

All they do is sit and eat eucalyptus leaves. They also sleep for 18 hours.

They are almost extinct because they're so stupid.

Sloth Sloths are mammals classified in the families Megalonychidae and Bradypodidae, including six extant species. Noted for their slowness of movement, they spend most of their lives hanging upside down in the trees of the tropical rainforests of South America and Central America.

Sloths are very slow and lazy. A sloth can even starve itself if it eats only the bare minimum it needs.

Also, when sloths need to poop, they will literally climb down from the tree and defecate on the ground, exposing themselves to predators.

It's because the poor little guys are so slow.

Seahorse

Seahorses are incredibly slow and cumbersome. They lack fins in order to have a prehensile tail.

They are so slow that a predator fish could swim away for a while and come back to eat them because they cannot escape.

Babirusa

What is so strange about this pig? This pig's tusks or teeth curve backward and keep growing.

The animal's tusks can stab itself.

Kiwi Native to New Zealand, the Kiwi is a flightless bird known for its small size and long, slender beak. The beak is used to probe the ground for insects, its primary diet. The Kiwi has a keen sense of smell, which is unusual among birds.

Kiwis cannot fly, and just like the Kakapo before them, the species became disadvantaged when humans arrived in New Zealand.

Also, they produce huge eggs for such small animals. That has to hurt, right?

Kakapo

This is a flightless parrot, which is already a terrible adaptation.

Also, this animal literally does not fear predators. It almost went extinct because of this.

I'm just glad we are slowly saving them.

Jellyfish Box jellyfish are cnidarian invertebrates distinguished by their cube-shaped medusae. Some species of box jellyfish produce extremely potent venom: Chironex fleckeri, Carukia barnesi and Malo kingi.
Blind Cavefish

This is a fish that evolved in caves. Over time, they became blind. While this is useful in caves, it becomes a huge disadvantage when they are forcibly relocated to the surface.

They cannot see and cannot evade danger.

Luna Moth

The only purpose of this species is to reproduce. Luna moths cannot even eat because they do not have a digestive system, so they literally starve to death.

The Contenders
Cheetah The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a large cat and native to Africa and central Iran. It is the fastest land animal, estimated to be capable of running at 80 to 128 km/h (50 to 80 mph) with the fastest reliably recorded speeds being 93 and 98 km/h (58 and 61 mph), and as such has several adaptations... read more

Cheetahs are really fast, and that is their only major advantage. They often get dominated by every other predator on the African savannah.

Hyenas steal prey from cheetahs very frequently, and young cheetahs have a very high mortality rate.
