2019 NFL Season Predictions: NFC and Playoffs Edition

Previously I predicted the AFC records. Now it’s time for the NFC predictions and Playoff picks. Without further ado here’s my predictions.
NFC East
Philadelphia Eagles 10-6

@ Dallas❌

Philly’s season will rely on if Wentz stays healthy. They have talent all around him with guys like Zach Ertz, Dallas Goedert, Nelson Agholor, Desean Jackson, Jordan Howard and Alshon Jeffery. The Eagles schedule isn’t too bad but again if Wentz goes down it might as well be game over for Philadelphia. Your lord and savior Nick Foles is no longer in Philly. This could either be a bounce back year or go the route of Atlanta and fail to make the playoffs after barely qualifying the year after the Super Bowl

Dallas Cowboys 11-5
Vs NYG ✅
@ Washington✅
Vs Miami✅
@ New Orleans✅
Vs Green Bay❌
@ NYJ ✅
Vs Philadelphia✅

@NYG ✅

@ Detroit✅
@ New England✅
Vs Buffalo❌
@ Chicago❌
Vs LAR ✅
@ Philadelphia❌
Vs Washington✅

As long as Zeke comes back I see the Cowboys winning this division. Jerry boy better hope Zeke stays. Dak Prescott is meh but with Zeke and Amari Cooper the offense is solid and the defensive side is easily top 10 in the league. With some big games on the schedule if they can at least win 2 of these big games 11-5 seems pretty reasonable

Washington Redskins 8-8
@ Philadelphia❌
Vs Dallas❌
Vs Chicago❌
@ NYG✅
Vs New England❌
@ Miami✅
Vs San Francisco❌
@ Minnesota❌
@ Buffalo✅

Vs NYJ✅
Vs Detroit❌
@ Carolina✅
@ Green Bay✅
Vs Philadelphia✅
Vs NYG✅
@ Dallas❌

I feel Washington will be better than last year. The Defense is improved and they seem to have their quarterbacks in Case Keenum and Dwayne Haskins. A tough schedule awaits but if they stay healthy they might just manage to sneak in as the 6 seed if they get lucky. The Redskins have some nice pieces including Ryan Kerrigan, Trent Williams, Adrian Peterson, Josh Norman, Derrius Guice, and their biggest offseason acquisition Landon Collins. The thing about Washington is they need a lot to go right in order to make the playoffs. There’s the two headed monster of Philadelphia and Dallas in the division and let me reiterate that their schedule isn’t a cakewalk especially 4 of the first 5 games.

New York Giants 3-13
@ Dallas❌
Vs Buffalo❌
@ Tampa Bay✅
Vs Washington❌
Vs Minnesota❌
@ New England❌
Vs Arizona❌
@ Detroit❌
Vs Dallas❌
@ NYJ ✅

@ Chicago❌
Vs Green Bay❌
@ Philadelphia❌
Vs Miami✅
@ Washington ❌
Vs Philadelphia ❌

Okay let’s get the elephant out of the room the Giants suck right now. Golden Tate will be out with a suspension for a few weeks, OBJ is gone. Landon Collins is gone. Eli isn’t getting any younger or likely better for that matter. Saquon is the only thing that they really have going for them at the moment. And Daniel Jones looks like a potential bust. This is a team in absolute tank mode. That’s to be expected when all 3 of the other teams in the NFC East are significantly better. The G men are at best a 5 win team and that’s a bit of a stretch.

After a controversial loss to LA in the NFC championship the Saints look poised to make another deep Run. Drew Brees is still an elite quarterback. There’s Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas who just got big time paid. This team is one of the most complete in the entire league. Can they get over the hump for Drew Brees one more time? Or will they fall victim to yet another heartbreak in the NFC championship?

Atlanta Falcons 7-9

@ Tampa Bay✅

Atlanta is a team that could possibly make the playoffs or be dead last in the division. The offense is still decent with Marty Ice Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley but the defense I don’t know about. I see them falling anywhere between 5-10 wins. After being in a decline since the Super Bowl they need to regroup and it might be time to start over. Honestly I don’t see them going anywhere this season

Carolina Panthers 6-10

The Panthers looked destined for playoffs last year only to collapse in the second half of the season. It was almost impressive how they went from 6-2 to what 7-9? One of the biggest problems was Cam Newton himself. His shoulder was just off. The Panthers fate will rely heavily upon his shoulder. If he is back to 100% then they could compete for playoffs but if not then the Panthers are toast. Will Grier might be interesting to see but even if he does get playing time it won’t be enough to get them to the playoffs.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-12

I want to say Tampa will be better in 2019 but I can’t. Even with Bruce Arians as their coach a lot of their same problems still exist. Winston is still inconsistent as ever. The defense may be worse than a year ago with no Kwon Alexander. And the receiving core lost more than it gained. All in all I don’t see the Bucs getting any more than 6 wins.

After a disappointing end to last year’s season Minnesota looks to rebound. It won’t be an easy task but this team arguably has a top 10 defense and a decent offense. Captain Kirk may need to right the ship this year. This team is capable of making the playoffs as long as they don’t underachieve

Green Bay Packers 10-6

Green Bay is in the midst of a renaissance with Matt LaFleur now leading the helm. Aaron Rodgers had a meh season and will need to have a bounce back year if they want to make the playoffs. There’s a fair amount of winnable games as well as tough challenges including right off the bat at soldier field. Ideally the Packers need to get off to a good start to have a chance.

Da Bears are coming off one of their best seasons since 2010. Matt Nagy has done an amazing job turning them around. This year I expect them to reach for more. The defense is still scary even without Vic Fangio. My only concern is Mitch Trubisky. Can he prove himself? He might need to take the next step if Chicago wants to go deeper into the playoffs. We all knew they would have gone far if not for Mr Double Doink but this year I have high expectations

Year 2 of the Matt Patricia era is a make or break year. Unfortunately I think this will be a break year. They have some pieces including Trey Flowers and Kerryon Johnson but I just don’t think it will be enough. They have a brutal home slate and with the NFC North looking to be a competitive division I don’t think Detroit has enough to stack up and be able to compete.

This year the Rams Have a lot to prove. Last year the Super Bowl was a complete dud. This is where we tell if that was a fluke or not. Jared Goff is still decent and they still have guys like Aaron Donald. There’s some uncertainty like with Todd Gurley but I expect nothing less than a playoff appearance. This will either be hangover or revenge tour. Choose wisely Rams

Last year was a nice surprise from this team. So much so that Russell Wilson just got paid big time. Seattle clearly believes he’s their guy. Their season will depend on if he stays healthy. I think he will and they make the playoffs again. This team refuses to die and I expect it to continue.

After being hyped up last year the Niners come into 2019 with maybe even more hype. Jimmy Garappalo is back and they have some solid pieces. Here’s the problem. They have an early bye and a lot of tough games. I can’t see them making the playoffs this year but next year they could get there.

Arizona looks to be starting from scratch again after getting Kyler Murray in the draft. They brought in Kliff Kingsbury as their coach? The Cardinals are back to square one and at best a 4 win team. Murray is gonna be under a lot of pressure with a horrible O line and who’s he going to throw to. Larry Fitzgerald? Simply put there’s not a lot here. It’s tank time in the desert
