Analyzing The Biggest Moves In The 2019 NBA Offseason

Well well the NBA Offseason is here and it seems like it’s more chaotic and entertaining than the actual season itself.

First let’s get the elephant out of the room. Anthony Davis is joining forces with Lebron in LA. In my book this was a huge win for New Orleans who got themselves LA’s young core plus a few draft picks. On top of that they have Zion Williamson who could potentially be the next NBA superstar. LA did get the guy they wanted to help Lebron however in my opinion they packaged too much for him. My biggest question is who’s their starting 5 going to be? Lebron, AD, Kuzma, and?? It’s not like Kobe is gonna come out of retirement to play again. If you Bring in another big name like Kawhi come back to me on this one.

Now let’s look at some of the biggest names in free agency which include KD Kyrie Irving Kemba Walker Deandre Jordan ,Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard, and D’Angelo Russell

Oh and let’s just not mention the Knicks. Spoiler alert they don’t get any of these players even though they were saying they would be good next year when they had KD and Zion. The Only possibly is if Kawhi decides to pull a major plot twist but it’s very unlikely this happens. But don’t worry Knicks fans at least you signed Julius Randle and Taj Gibson.. 🤷‍♂️ Sorry Stephen A Smith

Kevin Durant: After infamously backstabbing OKC to join Golden State KD is out of the Bay Area. In fact he’s moving across the country and taking his talents to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. That’s right he’s signed with the Nets for the next 4 years. Brooklyn is taking a risk by signing him as KD went down in the finals with apparently a ruptured Achilles. So this all depends on his recovery. If he recovers then this will be a big move as he will help their core which already isn’t half bad but if he doesn’t then it’s a colossal failure. He was already injured and ended up re injuring himself in an effort to keep Golden State alive in the finals. And the type of injury he suffered is the type that could potentially screw the remainder of his career

Kyrie Irving; I had a feeling that he’d leave Boston. He was just off and could never be satisfied with himself while playing for the Celtics. Like KD he left for Brooklyn for the next 4 years. I like this move as the Nets already picked up KD and assuming he comes back healthy then KD and Kyrie could be a dangerous duo.

Kemba Walker: It makes sense that he’d leave Charlotte for the greener pastures of Boston. The Hornets have been a basement dwelling team forever so it makes sense that he’d leave for a real team in the Celtics. I think this was a pretty good move for Boston but Charolette is gonna have some work to do in order to fill his void

Deandre Jordan: He’s apparently going to Brooklyn as well to join forces with Kyrie and KD. When you consider the Nets made the playoffs last year and just got 3 big name players that’s gonna be a dangerous team. Their ceiling will Likely depend on KD. If he returns to form then the sky’s the limit but if not then they might be limited but even if he isn’t 100% Deandre and Kyrie alone could propel them to the top of the Eastern Conference

Jimmy Butler: This was a really complex trade involving 4 teams but Jimmy Butler is headed to Miami. I think this is an interesting move. I feel like Philly had more potential but Miami is also getting Meyers Leonard in that 4 team trade. Maybe he can breathe some life into this franchise that hasn’t been the same since the Big 3 split up.

D’Angelo Russell: So while the Warriors lost KD they got D Angelo Russell in return. I feel like he could be an interesting addition to the Warriors who look vastly different than their championship teams already however there’s rumors circling around that they are going to eventually trade him which brings up a bunch of possible outcomes. I really don’t know what to expect from this deal because he could be traded or stay with Golden State. It’s really up in the air at this point. If they do go ahead and decide to trade him then a bunch of options open up.

Kawhi Leonard: So this is a weird case because Kawhi actually hasn’t decided yet as I’m typing this. Obviously he could stay in Toronto or decide to go to the Clippers or Lakers as really the two biggest possibilities to go to at this point. There’s rumors of him going to the Lakers but nothing official yet. As I said earlier the Lakers already have 3 decent starters in Lebron Anthony Davis and Kyle Kuzma. If he goes to LA they will be solid. However I could also see him staying in Toronto. They’re the NBA champions so there’s obviously a lot to like in Toronto. Either way there’s nothing official as of now

Yeah the Nets should be really good the year after next. To be honest though I don't feel like they will be a top dawg this year unless KD comes back early. I think they will make the playoffs, but I don't trust a Kyrie led team that much. I think Butler on the Heat will be amazing. Pat Riley is a great president and the Heat embrace hard work and that is obviously Jimmy Butler's mantra. I think the Heat will be a top team in the East. I will talk about it all more once we figure out where Kawhi signs in my own post. - 2storm

Edit: So we finally know where Kawhi Leonard is going and it’s... the Clippers. That’s right he’s leaving Toronto and deciding not to team up with Lebron and AD. He’ll give the Clippers good leadership and on top of that he’s bringing Paul George with him as well. The Clippers aren’t a bad team. This is a squad who was able to make the playoffs. Granted they didn’t go anywhere but they did shock the Warriors. Adding Kawhi and PG to the mix and you have yourself a nice squad for next year Clippers. I have high expectations for these guys. Don’t let me down - visitor

Also with PG leaving OKC it’s just Russell Westbrook left. It’s not out of the question to say that they might trade him as well. It might be time for OKC to clean house and start from scratch with all those draft picks they got from the Clippers - visitor

Yeah where do you think he will be traded to? - 2storm

I think either Detroit or Miami has a good shot at him. I think Miami has a better shot just because they already got Jimmy Butler there so it would make sense for him to join Butler - visitor

Update: Well it’s official now. Russell Westbrook is going to Houston. Okay so um that came out of nowhere. James Harden and Russ could be a dangerous duo. Meanwhile Chris Paul? Yeah he’s out to OKC. So at least the Thunder have him and a billion draft picks to work with. The rebuilding process is underway in Oklahoma. I would say Chris Paul is a good start but who knows if OKC trades him to for more draft picks? - visitor
