Top 10 Best Dean Koontz Books
Anyone who has read a Dean Koontz book will surely say he is a master at his work.I loved this book. The first book I read by Dean Koontz was A Big Little Life. I had no idea what a gem of an author I had been missing all these years. I love dogs, and this book was another dog lover's book. Years and years ago, I used to read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy. I was delighted to be gently led back to the fantasy genre with Dean Koontz. Watchers was also a great love story with fun and likable characters. Couldn't stop listening. Oh - and the narrator - yum!
Spent nearly nine years of my life with the Golden I brought into my family. Truly had the curious nature and disposition of a young child. He, Mister Buster, was the best companion for which this homebody could ever ask. Loved that boy like my own child (if I had ever been fortunate to have one of my own). Getting nostalgic, might read it again and see if I'm compelled to adopt another Golden. Loved the book, by the way.
I read this when I was 13 (probably a little young). It scared me so much that I didn't sleep that night. It was a while before I would go to the bathroom at night! I would turn out my lights and jump into bed, which eventually became a mattress and box spring on the floor (there were things under the bed)! Dean Koontz was my boogeyman.
This is one of the few novels of Dean Koontz's that I've revisited over and over again. It made me look at shadows very carefully for a long time and always turn off a dripping tap. I enjoy the plot and the characters very much.
By far one of my favorite books of all time. It has so much suspense that you won't want to put the book down until you have finished it. Great read!
One of my favorite Koontz books. It was his first book that I could not put down and had me closing my eyes and my adrenaline pumping! Master writer.
This book is awesome! Read it for yourself because it's really hard to explain.
I have read a lot of Dean Koontz novels, many twice. This book, however, is by far my favorite. The way he describes his characters and their emotions makes you feel like you are part of the book and can't put it down. My recommendation is to just read it!
I have so many Dean Koontz favorites, and this one tops the list! I laughed, I cried, and was struck dumb in awe. The only fault I could find with this book was that it wasn't longer.
Fantastic book. Really touching and awesome story. Although I have many Dean Koontz books to read (I have read four so far), this is my favorite book I have ever read thus far. Must read!
One of the first books I read from Koontz. After many years and even more books, it's still in my top five favorites list!
Top-of-the-line suspense. Great for a book report. Believe me, I got an A.
Loved the character Tom Ironheart. One of Koontz's best inventions.
So difficult to pick only one favorite Koontz novel. I tried to think of a book that encompasses all of his best attributes as a writer. Odd Thomas, Innocence, Tick Tock, One Door Away from Heaven? So many great books, I could list at least 20! But I chose Life Expectancy because it masterfully weaves danger, fear, and terror with laughter, love, and profound lessons in life!
This is an amazing book, a departure for Koontz, filled with laugh-out-loud humor, and yet with that Koontz touch of the frightening. I bought this for a friend who also loved it. This is one of the books in my Grab 'n' Go bag. I do not ever want to be without it.
I love every Dean Koontz book. I have read them all, but False Memory is the first book I recommend to someone. It is so scary and believable. I love this book.
This book will blow your mind. A must-read!
My first Dean Koontz book, which I read some years ago, was brilliant. I literally couldn't put it down and begrudged outside pressures in my life that stopped me from picking it up.
The only thing I can add is:
I was totally gutted when I had finished it. There was a large void in my life almost akin to a bereavement. No other book since has ever drawn me so far in.
Thank you, Dean Koontz.
This is by far Koontz's best book. The twists and turns keep you interested until the last page. I have read this book three times, and it is always the book I recommend to anyone wanting to start Koontz books.
I first saw the movie years ago and absolutely loved it. Koontz did a great job developing the main female character. You are on the edge of your seat the whole movie. Recently, I picked up the book Intensity to see if I would like the book as much as the movie. Not surprisingly, I enjoyed the book as much, if not more, than the movie. Obviously, the movie has to be shortened to fit into a time limit, but the book keeps the reader very interested and fascinated with the heroine's plight. Loved both and would highly recommend them to anyone who loves a good suspenseful read!
This was my first book from Dean Koontz, and it's my favorite by far.
One of my all-time favorite books by Dean Koontz.
The Newcomers
Why isn't this book on the list?
It was the first Dean Koontz book I read, and now I'm craving more. Honestly, it's one of the best books I've ever read. Period!
Great book, full of suspense, and minus the usual lengthy happy-ever-after Koontz final chapter.
My favorite book as a teenager. It was my first Koontz novel, and it gave me a passion for reading.
Great suspense/horror tale. One of his darker stories for sure.
Odd Thomas is probably one of the few "perfect novels" that Koontz has ever written (along with Watchers). It has a great protagonist, an excellent plot, and ends exactly how it's supposed to, but with a few surprises along the way.
Odd is one of my all-time favorite characters. I'm a romantic, and I'm tearing up thinking about Odd and Stormy right now. That's gotta mean something.
My daughter recommended this to me, and I could not read through the series fast enough. I cannot wait for the next one.
The one that led me into the wonderful world of Koontz. Might there be something in the forest, amidst the pines, beneath the winter moon, lurking and waiting to become?
Dragon Tears was my first introduction to Koontz. Many years later, and having read much of his work, the antagonist in this story is still my favorite.
Really good book. One of his best.
My first Dean Koontz book, and by far the best. It's been my favorite book for four to five years. I recommend everyone read it.
Again, a perfect book to show the corruption in government and science.
Stands out even among excellent books.
One of the first Koontz books I read, and I have been reading all his books since. I think this is one of my favorites. However, so many of his books are great.
I like his lighter fare, such as Life Expectancy and Odd Thomas, just as much as From the Corner of His Eye, which might be his most intense novel.
The first Dean Koontz book I ever read. I'll add that it got me into the habit of reading in general.
It was such a strange viewpoint at the time. I was really impressed with his knowledge of military-type spying devices. He pushes you right to the edge of reality to make his stories believable.
Truly awesome suspense novel about subliminal mind control. Would rank about sixth for most true Koontz fans. A fun and thrilling read.
So far, my favorite. Fascinating and a fast read.
Beautiful and sad, with a truly unpredictable and heartbreaking twist. It encompasses the essence of the entire Odd series, including the first three, which were the best in the series.
Incredible story! I read it in two hours - I was that enthralled. It ranks up there with Twilight Eyes and From the Corner of His Eye.
Loved this book and have shared it with many others.
My favorite of all of Koontz's books. He dares to go to some very dark places in this one. The originality of the types of horror he brings here is so unexpected. Weirdly wild and full of unique characters. A must-read.
By far the best book I have ever read. Kept me interested and racing ahead to find out what was happening. The only book that I could get up in the middle of the night and want to carry on reading!
My wife and I enjoy Koontz novels. However, she could not finish this one as she started having nightmares. Considering she has read most of King and Koontz novels, that is saying something.
Hard to put down. What a great character. I always want more novels in this series. Come on, Mr. Koontz, there has to be one more story here. Two novels were not enough.
Loved this and Seize the Night. Keep hoping he'll write another Christopher Snow novel. I have read both several times.
One of only a few books I've read more than once. Seize the Night was also worthy of a reread.
The third Dean Koontz I've ever read, and I'm not sorry at all. A great book.
Dark, disturbing book, at the same time filled with beauty and mystery.
Simply one of the best books I ever read. This introduced me to Mr. Koontz, so I'm excited. Listed before, I'm going to buy them all now!
One of my favorite books of his. I read it in the '90s and still think about it to this day.
Wonderful characters and great style.
I have read this book four times and have bought three copies because I'm constantly afraid that I am going to misplace it someday! It is just amazing, a must-read!
One of my favorites. Not sure why it isn't on more top picks.
Loved the whole series. I hope they definitely make these into a movie or TV series. It would have to have some money behind it so as not to be cheesy, but if done correctly, it would be a huge hit.
This is an amazing book where his forte, corruption in the science industry, is clearly seen.
An easy read that left me wanting #2, which I just finished. On to #3!
My favorite book by Koontz. I didn't sleep for a week after finishing it.
Great book! Just could not put it down.
