Reasons Why Rock Is And Will Always Be Superior To Pop

Alpha101 It angers me when people a school worships "artists" such as Justin Bieber, One Direction, and Ariana Grande, and they constantly say that great bands such as Guns N Roses, Queen, The Beatles, Nirvana, etc. are trash. Here are some reasons that Rock is and will always be superior to Pop music.

1: Rock music has lyrics that are actually meaningful.

Let's take a look at some of the lyrics of Led Zeppelin's masterpiece, "Stairway to Heaven."

"There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven.

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven."

Now, let's take a look a some of the lyrics of Bella Thorne's "song" "TTYL XOX"

"Show up in the same dress
We dont know who wore it best
Don't make such a big deal
Act like its a new trend
Look good when we go round
Here try on these boots
I found this boy he says you're sweet
He's got a best friend

(you'll always be mine)

Be Be Be My BFF
Cause IDK whats coming next
And Ill be LMHO with the rest
So TTYLXOX"

Do you see the difference? Song number one's lyrics are actually meaningful. You have to actually think about the lyrics. You have to feel them! How long do you think it took to create song number two? 15 minutes? Possibly 20?

2: Rock singers actually have fantastic voices.

Most Pop singers today only have good voices because they use auto-tune. Singers like Justin Bieber, Bella Thorne, and One Direction are a great example of this. The beauty of Rock is, great bands from the 80s and 90s, such as Guns N Roses and Nirvana, did not use auto-tune. Auto-Tune was not used back then! Their voices WERE REAL! Listen to "A Day In The Life" by The Beatles. You will see that the singer, John Lennon, has a fantastic voice. That is REAL! NOT AUTO-TUNE!

3: Rock song are not repetitive, unlike Pop.

Let us look at another song. This song is "Come As You Are" by Nirvana.

/*important is required as the imported widget has inline css that will override any style definition. All adjustments requested by Sush. */ #cf_async_911241777 {margin-left:-8px;margin-top:14px;} #cf_async_911241777 td {border-bottom:none;padding:0 !important;vertical-align:middle;} #cf_async_911241777 span {font-family: proxnov-sbold,arial,sans-serif !important;font-style: normal !important;font-weight: normal !important;color: #0495d2 !important;} #cf_async_911241777 span:hover {color: #0371a0 !important;} #cf_async_911241777 table {margin-bottom: -10px !important;} /* adjusting outbrain container to allow for moving ringtones div */ .OUTBRAIN {margin-top:20px;}
"Come as you are, as you were
As I want you to be
As a friend, as a friend
As an old enemy

Take your time, hurry up
The choice is yours, don't be late
Take a rest as a friend
As an old

Memoria, memoria
Memoria, memoria"

See, it is not repetitive! let us loom at another song. This one is called, "Friday" by Rebecca Black.

"It's Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody's lookin' forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday
Gettin' down on Friday
Everybody's lookin' forward to the weekend

Partyin', partyin' (Yeah)
Partyin', partyin' (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin' forward to the weekend"

Doesn't it get annoying after a while? Just hearing "Friday" over, and over, and over again?

I think I have made my case. Rock music is better than Pop music. Period.

This is so true! - PatrickStar

Thanks for reading my post! - Alpha101

Rock singers have terrific voices. Ben in Breaking Benjamin and Chester in Linkin Park are the prime examples - Kiteretsunu

Heard great things from Breaking Benjamin but never heard a single song by them, so I'll have to look them up soon. I agree with you about Chester. - Alpha101

I totally agree with you! I used to love pop music (i mean mainstream pop) until I started to listen to some rock songs. Now, I think that mainstream suck and rock will never die - visitor
