Minecraft review.

Eclipsmon So for my first review, we have Minecraft, suggested by hcraw17. I'm pretty sure you already know about this game. This game was really popular when it came out, and still is now that Pewdiepie started to play Minecraft rather recently. So let's see if I think Minecraft deserve its praise or is actually overrated. Don't forget to make other suggestions, about movies or video games that I could talk about.

Let's start with the graphics. I have to say right now that graphics are the things that I am the least interested in. I mean compare me to one of my favorite youtuber, Exoparadigmgamer, and it will be clear as soon as I will make more reviews, who is the most expert about graphics. That means, that when I talk about graphics, I I will not talk about things like frame rate or dithering. My judging of graphics is simply based on what I find to be the most beautiful. So what do I think about Minecraft's graphics? Well, Minecraft is hard to judge. On one hand Minecraft doesn't look like those games with fancy HD graphics that everyone praises for how good they are. This game is made of cubes, and is pixilated with not as much details as a lot of recent games. On the other hand, the reason why this game looks like this is not because they weren't competent enough for making those graphics. This is an art style choice. Therefore the question is, does Minecraft looks good for what it's trying to do? I'll say yes. The graphics does their job fairly well, and are far from unwatchable. Not only that, but this artstyle gives Minecraft an identity, which is probably why it's so popular. One of the reason why I often prefer cartoony games over realistic games, is that while realistic games can only look like one thing, which is reality, cartoony games have different artstyles that makes them interesting from one another, while realistic games looks the same. It's not a case only exclusive to video games though. Shawshank Redemption is pretty much my favorite movie of all time, but if people wouldn't have tell me it's good, I would have never watched it since it looks like any other movies. Meanwhile no other games looks like Minecraft, which gives it its own identity, and make it stands out from all those realistic games.

How about the music? The soundtrack was composed by C418, and this is a pretty interesting soundtrack to say the least. Personally, I prefer when songs are catchy, and energetic since they are more memorable, but that doesn't mean I dislike soundtracks that are more based on ambiance, but I won't remember them as much. That being said, for a soundtrack based on ambiance, it's pretty good. As I am doing this review I am listenning this soundtrack to give me my thoughts, and they it's simply very relaxing and in a good way. Overall, it's far from my favorite soundtrack, but it's really well done.

Now it's time to talk about the gameplay. This game is a survival open world game. You start with nothing on you and your goal is to survive in this environnment, where many creatures attack you during the night. To survive you need to find materials. By finding more and more materials, you can build more and more things, and become more and more powerful. What's cool about this game is that you start in an unknown area, so you never know what will happen next, and it makes for more replayability. I will also say that starting from a guy who has nothing, to a guy that can build houses made of the strongest material he could find, that has the strongest weapons, is quite inspiring.

Now I will talk about the controls, and I will say something: I am not a fan of first person games. That doesn't mean I dislike any first person shooter or something like that, however it's just less my cup of tea. I simply don't like having to turn around to see if there is something behind me. Having something a simple as a camera behind me helps me considerably. That being said, Minecraft is a first person game, and there is actually not a lot of problems that I encounter with the first person view. The way the camera turn around is overall perfect, especially if you play it with a mouse on a computer. As for the movement of the character itself, it's okay. Another problem with first person views is that during platforming moments you have to watch under you to be sure not to fall off, and Minecraft sometime suffers from this, but there is not a lot of platforming moments (unless you create those moments), and even if there was more, I can still tolerate this.

Now it's time to do something that I do with a lot of games I review: compare to other games. After all, it's important to know what is bad or good, by comparing games to each other. And now I will compare Minecraft to a certain game call "Terraria". Basically, Terraria is often consider Minecraft but in 2d. After all the concept of Minecraft and Terraria are the same. Surviving in a world by finding materials to build weapons, and other things. However, here is something problem for Minecraft: a lot of things in Terraria are better than Minecraft. There is more weapons, more tools, and more importantly more bosses. In Minecraft there is not a lot of bosses, meaning that after you defeated the Wither and the Ender Dragon there is not a lot of clear objectives in the game, while Terraria has lots of bosses. That makes Terraria, a better game for the adventure.

That being said, Minecraft has a certain advantage that prevents it from being overshadowed by Terraria. While I think the adventure aspect of Terraria is better, Minecraft is better in the creation aspect. Minecraft after all isn't just a survival game. It's also a game with lots of possibilities. After all there is a creative mode that lets you create anything you want without having to deal with monsters and other things like that. The reason why Minecraft is better in that aspect is simply because, 3d allows for more impressive things like a giant statue for example. Basically, if Terraria is Super Mario Odyssey, Minecraft is Super Mario Maker. One is great for exploration and adventures, while the other gives you tools to surpass your imagination.

That's it for my review of Minecraft. So what is the verdict? Minecraft is really cool for what it is. The game doesn't look bad, and the soundtrack is nice. Despite being overshadowed by Terraria on that apsect, it still has a cool depths in surviving, and becoming stronger. But where the game really shine is with the possibilities this game gives to the imagination. This is also why this game is popular. People play games to do things they can't do in real life so a game with as much possibilities as Minecraft is really popular. So my score for this game is a 10/10. I reserve those score for the games that do all the things they needs to do to be a really good experience. Note that 10/10 doesn't mean perfect. It means that the flaws of the game aren't too problematic.

Next time, we will do EvanTheNerd's suggestion: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild.

Good review! - visitor

Minecraft is really fun. Ignoring the toxicity of the community and multiplayer (which I hate), the survival and creative modes are just amazing. You can build whatever you want, or adventure through the biomes with the awesome music..., great game - visitor
