Top 10 Best Songs of the 1990s

Smells Like Teen Spirit wasn't the only song from the 90s. In fact you may not even think it was the best. Vote for your choice of the best songs of the decade.
The Top Ten
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

This song is so much more than a song. It started a cultural shift or revolution. With the powerful and iconic opening riff, amazingly structured melody, and powerful screams by Kurt Cobain, it truly encapsulates the energy that the '90s and teen angst are all about.

Not to mention how iconic the opening drum part is and the very tight bassline that Krist has going. Nothing more can be said that hasn't already about how this song will stand the test of time.

Deservedly the number one song of the '90s. I personally think "Under the Bridge" by RHCP is the best song of the '90s, but Smells Like Teen Spirit was the pinnacle of "Nevermind" and was just so influential. It threw grunge into the mainstream and secured Nirvana's place in music history.

November Rain - Guns N' Roses

The top 2 are correct - November Rain and Smells Like Teen Spirit. Both songs were released in 1991. GNR was the biggest band rounding out the '80s, and Nirvana took over in the early '90s. Both are amazing songs and bands. November Rain gets my vote though. It was epic, and Axl is the best frontman ever.

Should be third behind Wonderwall and Under the Bridge. It's one of the greatest songs of all time.

Um... the best rock song ever. Need to say more?

Enter Sandman - Metallica

This song is so boss. Go Metallica!

Wonderwall - Oasis

By far, and I mean by far, the number one song of the '90s! The song is catchy with raw and emotional vocals. A surprisingly tender song from a group known to be among the baddest boys of rock.

Wonderwall is an amazing song and absolutely one of the best songs from the '90s! I love that you included this!

Best song of the '90s by far. Smells Like Teen Spirit is the most overrated song ever.

Basket Case - Green Day

Do you have the time? To listen to me whine? About everything and nothing all at once? I am one of those melodramatic fools, neurotic to the bone, no doubt about it.

Seriously, this is the best Green Day song. Definitely one of the best of the '90s.

What the hell? This should be in the top ten! One of the best songs ever! Please vote, people!

Probably one of my favorite songs by Green Day.

Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers

This song is one of the best songs of all time! How this isn't number one surprises me! It was one of the most important songs ever created!

This song should be #1 in my opinion. So much meaning and absolutely beautiful.

Second behind Wonderwall. Such a meaningful and beautiful song!

California Love - 2Pac

The best rap song of the '90s - possibly of all time.

... Baby One More Time - Britney Spears

One of the best songs by Britney. Should be in the top 5.

This is one of my top favorites. It should be on top.

Killing in the Name - Rage Against the Machine

Are you kidding me? I voted for this to get it up higher. I don't think it's the best, but it is at least worthy of a top 5 spot. This song is kickass and launched RATM into the mainstream to continue blowing people's minds. Nu-Metal was made by these guys. Long live RATM.

Nuthin' but a G Thang - Dr. Dre

The greatest rap song ever. Also the catchiest! Everything about it is perfect!

This is the song that started it all.

The Newcomers

? Simsalabim - Caramell
? Kom Och Ta Mig - Caramell
The Contenders
Paranoid Android - Radiohead

This was easily the best song of the '90s, surely better than any that Madonna and the Backstreet Boys put out. Also, Creep is higher than Paranoid Android on this list? Hell no. Creep is easily the most overrated Radiohead song in existence.

Here's why Radiohead is the best band of the '90s. Ed O'Brien's rhythm guitar skills are flawless. Jonny Greenwood's guitar solos are like orgasms to the ears. Thom Yorke's eccentric yet deep vocals leave you in tears. Colin Greenwood's MASSIVE bass lines are simply amazing.

Not to mention, Philip Selway is easily the most musically skilled drummer of the '90s. His absolute precision and ability to pull off the odd times that Radiohead's songs have is incredible. No other drummer of the '90s could pull off such excellent drum lines, not even Travis Barker.

Seriously, Radiohead's music is so much more original than the rest of the '90s, and Paranoid Android epitomizes this fact. Just give it a listen. You'll see why.

Losing My Religion - R.E.M.
My Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion

I love this song. I didn't like the movie. It was way too long, but this song is amazing.

The Show Must Go On - Queen

Rock on, Queen! Love you guys, The Show Must Go On is amazing. My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies. Love it.

Awesome and should be higher. Queen's finest.

Everlong - Foo Fighters

Everlong is an amazing song, but judging by the rest of their output, I guess this was just blind luck.

This song is amazing! Dave Grohl's voice just rocks it and deserves to be in the top ten!

All Star - Smash Mouth
Creep - Radiohead

This song is amazing and got me through some tough times in my life.

AWESOME song, and it should be in the top ten!

Classic Radiohead - hypnotic and filled with action all at once.

Self Esteem - The Offspring

Better than November Rain, Enter Sandman, and Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Say It Ain't So - Weezer

I'm glad this song's towards the front and above The Good Life for once.

The Unforgiven - Metallica
Angels - Robbie Williams
Juicy - The Notorious B.I.G
Man in the Box - Alice in Chains

Pretty sure this song is way better than where it is currently ranked. Also sure that you still hear this song on the radio. I can't recall hearing any Backstreet Boys or Savage Garden on the radio lately.

Lightning Crashes - Live
One - U2

The best song of the '90s from one of the best albums of the '90s, from one of the best bands ever. A classic to be remembered.

Come on, guys! Really? Backstreet Boys at #2? That is inexcusable.

I VOTE FOR U2!
