Best Time Travel TV Shows

The Top Ten
1 Doctor Who Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television programme produced by the BBC since 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called "the Doctor", an extraterrestrial being from the planet Gallifrey. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. Accompanied by a number of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes, while working to save civilisations and help people in need.

How unique can you be? Because no matter how unique and creative you are, you can't imagine something like Doctor Who. The pure talent behind the scripts, the storyline, the characters... it takes time, effort, and a resilient, imaginative mind. And this is exactly the show for you.

It's fantastic to see Farscape in second place, but it's not primarily a time travel show so doesn't deserve to place so high. Best science fiction show, sure.

I quite agree for it to be at the top! Time Travel is what it's all about, there can't be any adventures without the time travelling Doctor inside his TARDIS!

Phenomenal and legendary series. A Time Lord known as "the Doctor" travels through time and space in a TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space).

2 Farscape
3 Steins;Gate Steins;Gate is a 2011 anime television series created by the animation studio White Fox based on 5pb. and Nitroplus's 2009 video game of the same name, and is part of the Science Adventure franchise.

A time travel sci-fi anime series with extremely thought provoking themes. It's an emotional, bittersweet, philosophical, thrilling adventure through the eyes of self proclaimed mad scientist Okabe Rintarou. The first half of the show is very slow, but the second half is fantastic and is what the series is known for. Very, very, very well done. The dialogue and voice acting is excellent. This series tapped into some of the deepest aspects of humanity, in my opinion. But you have to watch the movie afterward. That made me tear up, and I'm a guy.

Too underrated just because its Japanese/Anime. Everything about it is amazing... the music, the characters, the themes... It shows the dangers of time travel in a perfect way. So please... if you love time travel, romance, or even Doctor Who... this show is a much watch and you should share it to other people because it is too good to be underappreciated like this... it should've at least reached the popularity heights of Neon Genesis Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop or Death Note.

It's probably the only T.V. series that takes time travel seriously by explaining Quantum mechanics, Neurogenetics etc.

Unlike Dr. Who or other shows, this show explains the basis of time travel like no other. It shows that Time Travel and action paced drama fit well toghether. I suggest every time travel fan to give it a shot. You definitely won't be disappointed.

Among the series and movies about the time travel that I watch Steins Gate is the best. Because steins gate is simpler but on the other hand it explains the mechanism of time travel, and has a nice plot, beautiful drama, fun characters, great mysteries and thrills

4 Primeval

Portals to different time periods start opening up and creatures from the past and future start to come through. There are indications that the portals are man-made, but their exact origin is shrouded in mystery.

It's just such a fun show. The CGI is good, the acting is good, the character development is great, It's just one of those shows you can't hate no matter how hard you try.

It's better than doctor who!

5 Odyssey 5

Astronauts are sent back in time after witnessing the end of the Earth from space.

6 Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles

A female Terminator from the year 2027 comes back in time to 1999 to protect a young John Connor. They then use the time displacement equipment to move forward in time by 8 years to hide John. Various other Terminators are sent back in time on varying missions.

Should be rated higher

7 Quantum Leap

Dr. Sam Beckett helped to develop Quantum Leap, a project that would allow a person to time travel back to any point since that person was born. Beckett ended up being the test subject, and while he could remember only certain details, he traded places with a person in the past...

As a kid, my bedtime was 9pm, but on Wednesdays I could stay up til 10pm because of quantum leap!

8 Torchwood

Humans and aliens alike from different periods in time start to come through to our world by means of a rift in the space/time continuum. The series itself, is a spin-off from Doctor Who and very very decent spin-off

A police officer who must learn to adapt to the way things were done in the 70s after being thrown back in time by an accident.

10 12 Monkeys
