Best Songs from Def Leppard's X

X (pronounced "ten") is the eighth studio album by English rock band Def Leppard, released on July 30, 2002, by Island Records in the US and its sister label Mercury worldwide. It was recorded at Joe's Garage in Dublin, Ireland, Polar Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, and Rumbo Studios in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Much like 1996's Slang, X featured another departure from the band's signature sound by incorporating elements of the pop genre.

Most of the album was produced by Pete Woodroffe and the band, with the remaining tracks produced by Marti Frederiksen or the duo Per Aldeheim and Andreas Carlsson.

This is the first Def Leppard album in which drummer Rick Allen actively took part in songwriting. On all of the band's prior albums, he had been credited with co-writing only three tracks On X alone, he co-wrote 11 songs

The album features the Roman numeral "X," recognizing it as their tenth album release. However, it is technically their eighth collection of all-new studio material. The other two albums released prior to X - Retro Active and Vault - were, respectively, a re-recording of B-sides and rarities and a greatest hits compilation.

The album peaked at number 11 on the Billboard 200 but did not meet the commercial standards of their previous releases and failed to earn any RIAA certifications. Nothing from the album had been performed live by the band since the conclusion of its supporting tour until the Rock of Ages tour in 2012, during which the opening track, "Now," was performed acoustically.
