Top 10 Songs on Savatage's Poets and Madmen
This was their last album, released in 2001, and one of their best. However, they reunited in 2014, and new albums remain a possibility.Savatage is an American metal band founded in 1979 by brothers Jon and Criss Oliva.
The band's subgenres include heavy metal, progressive metal (in their later years), speed metal (in their early years), and power metal. Savatage is often regarded as one of the most underrated metal bands of all time.
Jon Oliva possesses a four-octave vocal range and, in addition to singing, he can play all the typical metal instruments: rhythm and lead guitars, drums, bass, and keyboards, including piano.
Criss Oliva tragically died at the age of 30 in 1993 in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. Rest in peace, Criss.
Personnel:
Jon Oliva - Lead vocals, keyboards
Chris Caffery - Lead and rhythm guitars, backing vocals
Johnny Lee Middleton - Bass guitar, backing vocals
Jeff Plate - Drums, backing vocals
The Top Ten
Morphine Child
This is my #1 song by Savatage, not only from this album. It's epic and emotional.
It's 10:12 minutes long, but I wouldn't throw out a single note.
Commissar
Surrender
The riff is awesome, and I think Bon Jovi ripped it off for their 2007 song We Got It Going On. Sounds very similar to me.
