Top 10 Most Overrated People of All Time

We're all familiar with the megastars and cultural icons who get praised nonstop. But what about the people who get way more hype and attention than they actually deserve?

This list is to show people who receive too much credit or support for some or no reason. It's not meant to be mean-spirited, but rather a fun way to challenge the idea that everyone who's famous is automatically amazing.

The Top Ten
  1. Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer, navigator, and colonizer who was born in the Republic of Genoa. He completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean, opening the way for widespread European exploration and colonization of the Americas. His expeditions, sponsored by Spain, began in 1492.

Contrary to popular belief, Christopher Columbus wasn't the first to arrive in America, nor was he the first to conclude that the Earth was round. To make things worse, he didn't even arrive in North America at all. Worst of all, he caused a genocide in the native territory.

The truth is, Christopher Columbus is actually evil and should not be considered one of the greatest people of all time.

He claimed and lied about discovering America when there were already Native Americans living there. He captured and enslaved them for his own benefit. He exploited the people and the Americas. He sold children into sexual slavery. And that's not even the extent of what he's done.

Just a horrible man, and I'm glad a lot more people know the truth now.

  2. Muhammad

Muhammad ibn Abdullah (570 AD - 632 AD) was an Arab religious, social, and political leader who founded Islam, one of the world's major monotheistic religions. Sorry to all the people who would be offended by this comment, but he did a lot of bad stuff.

  3. Thomas Edison

Thomas Alva Edison (February 11, 1847 - October 18, 1931) was an American inventor and businessman often called America's greatest inventor. He held over 1,000 U.S. patents, including for the phonograph (1877), the incandescent light bulb (improvements, 1879), and the motion picture camera (1891).... read more

Thomas Edison changed our lives by opening a company and hiring scientists, technicians, and engineers to work in a harsh environment with low pay. He forced them to research how to light a bulb while he sat comfortably in his office drinking coffee.

When the bulb lit up, he gained financially and in fame, although "lighting up the bulb" wasn't his doing. It was his employees who had been working in a harsh and dangerous laboratory to finally light the fire in that glass.

He electrocuted innocent animals with AC. He killed one of his own patents with radiation poisoning. He nearly blinded himself trying to show that X-rays could cure ailments like blindness and cared for nothing except to make money.

Yeah, definitely the best scientist ever.

  4. Barack Obama

Barack Hussein Obama II (born August 4, 1961) served as the 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017, becoming the first African-American to hold the office. It's funny how people automatically assume you're racist for saying something negative about him when I'm doing what MLK told us to do: judge people by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. He's the reason why our economy is the way it is, employment went down, and the media became manipulated by bias because of him.

How do you think Hitler came into power? By manipulating the media.

"Oh, you're racist if you dare criticize my man, Obama, even if it's on his actions and not his color." Obama's fans make sports fans look like angels. Real talk: his Obamacare tore the economy apart in the long term.

Sadly, too many people are too blinded, ignorant, and stubborn to see this.

As much as I like Diana, I do agree with anyone who says that she is overrated. No doubt she was charitable, kind, and caring, but she had her own faults too, just like other human beings out there.

Especially with all those people decrying the Queen's death and using Diana as justification.

Winston Churchill should be higher up! I appreciate all of his great achievements, but he wasn't the best person at all. He treated Indians horribly and let thousands of them starve to death.

Gandhi has been praised too much. Many people say he's a "civil rights" type of guy. But how? By protesting excessive land taxes, which everyone in other countries outside India is paying? By commenting offensive racial slurs against African tribal cultures and separating the Muslim and Hindu so that they could kill each other 50 years later?

He came to South Africa and called black people lazy and uncivilized, saying they spend their lives trying to get cattle to buy wives. I find that insulting to our tradition.

I tried my best not to include JB in here, but since his fame skyrocketed (although half of the people hate him), and he sold so many albums and had so many die-hard fangirls... I have no choice but to include him here, as he is truly overrated.

  29. Robin Hood

So if I go to the bank right now with my gang and guns, start robbing people's personal savings (whether they're rich or poor) from their accounts, and give it to my family who's been living in poverty, should I be called a hero? This guy robbed people for a living and has been called a hero while doing so.
