Hal
Hal is the goofy and often irresponsible father of the family, prone to bizarre obsessions. How the heck is Dewey in first place? He is the most obnoxious kid I have ever seen. Hal is just plain hilarious, and he should be number one.
Hal is awesome because he is not afraid to look like an idiot in front of everyone. You have to respect his bravery.
He should be number one. He really loves his boys and doesn't mind embarrassing himself in public. He should be in the top 5 best dads on TV shows.
Dewey
Dewey, the youngest son for much of the series, is highly imaginative and often underestimated by his family. Dewey is hilarious and comes up with the best plans. How is he first on the worst list? Dewey is always #1!
Wow, Dewey is number one on the best character list AND number one on the worst character list... Haha!
I love Dewey. I could watch four hours' worth of Dewey clips and still not be bored.
Reese
Reese, the second eldest son, is a troublemaker with a talent for mischief and an inability to think ahead. Yes! Thanks, man. I didn't know why Reese was put on the worst list, but he freaking rocks and is a badass. He should have had his own show because he is just the best - the goddamn best.
I like Reese. He's funny, and the fact that he's quite stupid makes me laugh. I don't know, just my opinion. Have a good day!
Yes! Reese is my hero!
Malcolm
Malcolm, the protagonist, is a gifted child genius constantly frustrated by his dysfunctional home life. Ok, how is Malcolm not #1? His actor gives the best performance, and his "I'm just done with life" attitude is hilarious! This show wouldn't have lasted three seasons without Malcolm. Imagine "Dewey on the End," a show about a 5-year-old who gets beat up by his 12-year-old brother. Hilarious. Malcolm deserves the #1 spot, hands down.
He is so cute! If he didn't have blue eyes, I would have the biggest crush on him.
Malcolm is what holds the show together.
Francis
Francis, the eldest brother, is a rebellious free spirit who clashes with authority but seeks his own path. Francis is human and has flaws, which is what makes him so endearing. He is still less crazy than the rest of his family.
He's the total package, and he is always sacrificing for others.
He's so flipping adorable.
Lois
Lois is the domineering and strict mother, keeping her chaotic household in line with an iron will. She's the complete opposite of Beverly Goldberg!
Stevie Kenarban
Stevie Kenarban, Malcolm's best friend, is a brilliant but physically disabled boy with a dry sense of humor.
Craig Feldspar
Craig Feldspar is the bumbling, lovesick coworker of Lois who harbors an unrequited crush on her.
Piama Tananahaakna
Piama Tananahaakna is Francis's strong-willed wife who refuses to be pushed around by her husband or his family.
Jamie
Jamie is the youngest child, introduced later in the series, who adds to the family's chaos.
The Newcomers
? Otto Mannkusser
Otto Mannkusser, Francis's boss, is a kind-hearted but clueless ranch owner in need of constant help.
? Jellybean
Jellybean is the family's pet hamster, who doesn't play a significant role but appears occasionally. Craig Feldspar's cat.
The Contenders
Abe Kenarban
Abe Kenarban, Stevie's father, is a neurotic but loving parent who tries to overprotect his son.
Cynthia Sanders
Cynthia Sanders is a brilliant and quirky classmate of Malcolm's who briefly becomes his love interest.
Dabney Hooper
Dabney Hooper is another of Malcolm's geeky friends, overly sensitive and terrified of his domineering mother.
Commandant Edwin Spangler
Commandant Edwin Spangler is the authoritarian and eccentric head of the military academy Francis attends.
Lloyd
Lloyd, one of Malcolm's classmates, is a nerdy and socially awkward kid who struggles to fit in.
Ida Welker
Ida Welker is Lois's cruel and manipulative mother who constantly belittles her daughter and grandsons.
Jessica
Jessica is a manipulative neighbor who enjoys stirring up trouble among Malcolm and his brothers.
