The Top Ten

1
Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
This is Not only the greatest song of the 80's but one of the greatest songs ever! People will be dancing to Billie Jean 100 years from now!
Billie Jean is the best song. Almost any age group can recognize it and even knows the singer which is unusual. It just such a great universal song for everyone to love. The way he danced it makes it stand out even more in our minds... love for Micheal xoxo RIP

love4mjj

There was only ONE song in the 80s and it was Billie Jean ;)... Nah, I'm just playing. The 80s had some great songs albeit many melodramatic, but still great. Billie Jean is just something else. It's got something hypnotic in it that just keeps you coming back over and over again.
[Newest]Great choice but how could this list exclude U2?

2Livin' On a Prayer - Bon Jovi
Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, David Bryan, Tico Torres & Alec John Such!

Nirmal1991USA

3I've Been Losing You - A-ha
One of my favorites songs, I love it!

ro-s

Of course when we say A-Ha everyone think of TAKE ON ME - but this is way better stuff from them... Also in the same league as their title song "scoundrel days", "hunting high and low", "how sweet it was",...
This song is amazing, deserves top 3, the lyrics are amazing and with morten voice, this is without question one the best of the 80's, a-ha forever!

4Sweet Child of Mine - Guns N Roses
The best because of it's solo.
SLASH ROCKS!

i-love-rock-n-roll

I love this song it gets me going in the mornings and when I feel I have no energy it perks me right up all and slab got it going on you guys are the big fan christina
[Newest]Not as good as Rocket Queen.

5Take on Me - A-ha
All of the songs on this list are worthy to be on it - and as a pop song it is in a unwinnable contest against the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. However, this is one of the best pop songs to come in the 80s, and is still one of the best songs today. A catchy tune that is SO 80s style with amazing voice skills by Morten Harket. Not taking metal into consideration, one of the best songs to have come from Norway.
Not my favourite A-ha-song, but one of the best 80s-songs

Daisymorot

It is one of the best songs of the world!

The Contenders

11Fade to Black - Metallica
Only because the is not mainstream... People don't realise the beauty of this song...
It seems that outside of the metal community the first three albums of Metallica are a little underrated.

Toraqi

One of the best metal sons of all time. It's getting the appreciation it deserves 30 years too late.

12Don't Stop Believin' - Journey
One of the greatest song of all times from a great band. This song walks into any playlist any day. Listen to it, realize it's true potential and beauty, fall in love with it and listen to it again and if you don't like it you do not deserve to listen to music at all. This songs ranks way above where it currently.
This song has been popular in the 80s and in every year since. I doubt that there is a single person (in the US at least) who has never heard this song or does not like it. The placement of this song on this list, or rather off of it, is unbelievable.
Number 28? That's ok. I mean its only the most well known song in history. And its only been referenced in hundreds of movies and television shows. People know this song for a reason. BECAUSE IT IS THE BEST.
[Newest]Besides livin' on a prayer this is the best song EVER! I think this really needs to move up the list too. this song is just very moving and inspirational.

13Heaven Is a Place On Earth - Belinda Carlisle
25years later and this song still has "if". Classic, great song! And Belinda's signature song of all time!

17Scoundrel Days - A-ha
A very deep and strong song as well as the album SCOUNDREL DAYS.

meganharket

The stromgest song ever made.

A-ha forever...

18Like A Prayer - Madonna
One of the greatest songs ever recorded! Despite controversial music video, the song brings a very important message!
This song is amazing, what a great memory of the 80s
Best song of all time.

19The Final Countdown - Europe
32nd? You've got to be kidding me, the songs above are great but Europe's The Final Countdown is the DEFINITION of 80's music, brilliant use of keyboards and vocals mixed with guitar solos that must've taken forever to perfect, when people say "80's music" to me this is always the first song that comes to mind, not because I like it, but because it embodies everything that makes for good 80's music.
I agree, I think the final countdown should be placed higher than it is right now. Europe turned out to be one of the most successful bands in the world when this one hit wonder was realeased as a number 1 hit single In 25 countries all over the world. In the beginning they were very very slowly climbing the charts until this song came out then they took off to Venus at the very top of the charts. This is one of the greatest songs of the 80's.
Should be placed much higher

20Rock You Like a Hurricane - Scorpions
Greatest song in the 80's ever! It was the best song ever! It makes me wanna Rock like a hurricane!
Simply, the best songĀ's Scorpions of all the time, I listen this song since IĀ'm eighteen, more than twenty years!
This song has gotten me laid. So of course I vote for this song.

21I Want It All - Queen
I LOVED I WANT IT ALL THE rhythm WAS AMAZING AND THE WAY FREDDIE SINGED I LOVED IT I THINK I WANT IT ALL WOULD DESERVE TO BE IN TOP 10 WITH BEAT IT, THRILLER, ROCK AND A HARD PLACE (FROM THE ROLLING STONES), START ME UP
(FROM THE ROLLING STONES), BAD AND FEW OTHERS I THINK SOME OF YOU ARE VERY BLIND BUT I THINK BILLIE JEAN IS THE GREATEST SONG OF THE 80S AND IT WOULD MY BIG FAVOURITE ALONG WITH THE ROLLING STONES I can't GET NO SATISFACTION THE ROLLING STONES AND MICHAEL JACKSON BOTH KINDA CHANGED ME I LOVE BOTH OF THEM EQUALLY I THINK MJ IS THE GREATEST SINGER AND ARTIST YES I ACCEPT THAT AND THE ROLLING STONES IS AT NO 3 WITH MICK JAGGER AT NO 3(OF BEST SINGERS) AND I THINKS ITS BECAUSE THE ROLLING STONES HAD DONE GREAT IN ALL DECADES WITH ALBUMS AND TOURS ESPECIALLY IN LATER YEARS TOURS LIKE A BIGGER BANG I WOULD THINK MJ AND THE ROLLING STONES WERE BOTH THE BEST AT PERFORMING
Queen I want it all song definely one of the best songs of the 80's not only have Queen taken over the early 70's but when the 80's arrived Queen was more better in the 80's especially when Freddie Mercury had gotten a new make- over eith his haircut and moustache the band thrust into fame with 80's songs such as Under Pressure, Radio Ga Ga and Another one bites the Dust, and the rally hard rock 80's song I want it All Queen is one of the best bands of the 80's.
24 is an insult to queen and their music. This group of bad ass epicmusicians should be #1

fan-o-freddie

22Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler
That song is very, very romantic. I don't like Bonnie Tyler, but that song totally rocks. The lyrics are so personal..."And if you only hold me tight, we'll be hoding on forever".

Sensational song from Duran Duran. Best band ever
With this song I associate so many beautiful memories in my teenage years

27True Faith - New Order

28Back In Black - AC/DC
Why is this only 58? This clearly deserves top 3, one of the best songs of the 80's.
Serious who is "sandra" and how did she get before back in black with maria magdalena?

29Master of Puppets - Metallica
This should be number 1! Obey your MASTER! MASTER!
This is the most memoriable metal song that ever made. Should be at least upper than here

30Papa Don't Preach - Madonna
Creative and very good songs!
<3 Madonna

31Careless Whisper - George Michael

32Everybody Wants to Rule the World - Tears For Fears
This song is my jam. Every time it came on the radio my spirits were lifted. And nowadays it brings me back to those days when we were all care-free, you were cool no matter what you wore, the funkier your clothes or hairstyle the better, life was just AWESOME (like this song) to put it simply. LOVE YOU TEARS FOR FEARS
Real Genius. Enough said.
This song teaches you about life, it's your inspiration. I WONDER this song is on 35th place. I think it should be one of the songs with BEST lyrics!

It has a great video and funny! Also good drums, guitar, bass, and vocals. Not like today's junk.

Very original.

35You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC

Irina2932

37Maria Magdalena - Sandra
Simply fantastic track! One of the most memorable pop songs of the 80's.

StarUA

38Another One Bites the Dust - Queen
Queen - Another One Bites The Dust is one of the greatest examples of Queen and the rock genre as a whole, their playing style and their personality. Written by John Deacon, it's just plain and simply awesome, from the crazy great low bass line from John Deacon to the distinct vocal style of Freddie Mercury, giving this track a great start to begin with. And don't even get me started on the CPR drum beat. It's one of the things that makes this song. Hang on, the vocals are terrific, the bass line is funky, the drum beat keeps the tone of the song, and the guitar adds to the funkiness of the bass. All of this song's elements are just ridiculously good ON THEIR OWN, but put together? Forget it, this needs to be higher than 57, should be in the top 10.

39Don't You (Forget About Me) - Simple Minds
The best movie soundtrack ever
I love this song! I learned it on my guitar and everything!

40Bette Davis Eyes - Kim Carnes

IronMainiac666

42Smooth Criminal - Michael Jackson

43Pour Some Sugar on Me - Def Leppard
The best song by definitely Leppard, best song of the 80's, period.
Great song that you can have a lot of fun with!
Great great, really great

44With or Without You - U2
I love U2 I think they are incredible, their sound is beautiful as is the Edge's guitar. I have never heard a song that I don't love. I think that they are the greatest band ever... I know people would argue for Led Zeppelin (who I love) because of Page's guitar, Plant's vocals and not to mention John Bonzo Bonhams thunderous drums but u2 have a different style of music to Led Zep, They are easier to listen to and at their concerts you get a feeling of closeness, like its just you and the band, whereas Led Zep are giants... nobody can touch them. The final thing is that I have to praise the band, especially Bono, for all the humanitarian work they have done. Some quick song suggestions: SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY BY U2, WITH OR WITH OUT YOU BY U2 AND BAD BY U2', happy listening.
One of the best songs ever from Irish magicians. Praise Bono, Adam Clayton, Larry Mullen, Jr. & The Edge for their gift to this life. Hope they live on & on & on & bless us all by their Music.
The reason U2 are good is because they are timeless. The songs may be old, but they sound like they could've been recorded today. That is the main draw of U2. Top ten material for sure.

45Photograph - Def Leppard
Touching lyricd. Great vocals. Spine chilling.

46I Love Rock 'N Roll - Joan Jett
Seriously this should be number 1

47Physical - Olivia Newton-John
Olivia is tops. Still is!

48It's a Sin - Pet Shop Boys

49I Wanna Dance With Somebody - Whitney Houston
Absolutely wonderful disco-dance track that was a big boom in 1987. Whitney's voice is stunning. Should be much higher on this list

Larissa

This song should've been in the top 3! It was the greatest hit of 1984, and people from all over the world was crazy about this song! Michael Jackson and Bon Jovi rules but this song definitely doesn't deserve its place.
This song should definitely be in the top 5. This list is crazy for giving it the position it had now. It is and always will be an amazing, unique and groundbreaking song.
This is what it sounds like when doves cry...

68Smooth Operator - Sade

69All Through the Night - Cyndi Lauper

70Relax - Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Great song, turn it up loud and enjoy

71Whip It - Devo
Definitely not Devo's best song but I still voted because Devo is the best. I think in the 80s their albums Oh No! It's Devo and New Traditionalists were the best. Far better than Freedom Of Choice, which has Whip It on it. Although their punk stuff from the 70s was the best!

asdfalexia

72Rio - Duran Duran

73Endless Love - Diana Ross & Lionel Richie

74Kurenai - X Japan
This song should be in the top 50 at least! The beginning of the song starts out with a type of dark melody then it bursts out at you with such amazing guitar and drums blasting and with such an expert level of lyrics! This song is 6 minutes of awesomeness! You will never hear anything like it, the song is unique and it is everything you want in an original multi genre song they have their own sound and that is what makes them unique (plus they had a crazy style back then no matter what they really grabbed attention)! ~
