Top 10 Favorite Sea Creatures

The Top Ten
1 Hammerhead Shark

I think that all of the animals are good, but the ones I chose are the ones I find interesting.

2 Great White Shark The great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), also known as the white shark, white pointer, or simply great white, is a species of large mackerel shark which can be found in the coastal surface waters of all the major oceans. It is notable for its size, with larger female individuals growing to 6.1... read more

This animal is just so incredible. People say that killer whales are the kings of the seas, but I'd say it depends on how you define the word sea creature. Killer whales are mammals, so they need to breathe air, while sharks are fish and must remain in the water. Great whites instill fear and fascination within people, and for that reason, I'd say they are the kings of the sea, along with other sharks.

The most feared fish in the ocean! You are 30 times more likely to be struck by lightning.

It's the most popular sea creature.

3 Sea Horse Seahorse is the name given to 54 species of small marine fishes in the genus Hippocampus. "Hippocampus" comes from the Ancient Greek word hippos meaning "horse" and kampos meaning "sea monster".

They are the only species where the male bears the child. I find that fascinating.

The seahorse is a beautiful animal, very mystical, and fast. The seahorse has very old legends associated with it. Its body is multicolored, and it lives in the sea. It is the most divine animal.

4 Sea Turtle

Sea turtles are endangered because of the human population. This is definitely my favorite animal. If you can, recycle as much as possible!

Sea turtles are the best sea creatures ever. Save the sea turtles!

They're cute, adorable, and endangered, so let's save them.

5 Dolphin A dolphin is an aquatic mammal within the infraorder Cetacea. Dolphin species belong to the families Delphinidae (the oceanic dolphins), Platanistidae (the Indian river dolphins), Iniidae (the New World river dolphins), Pontoporiidae (the brackish dolphins), and the extinct Lipotidae (baiji or Chinese... read more

8 Lobster Lobsters comprise a family of large marine crustaceans. Lobsters have long bodies with muscular tails, and live in crevices or burrows on the sea floor.
9 Crab Crabs are decapod crustaceans of the infraorder Brachyura, which typically have a very short projecting "tail", usually entirely hidden under the thorax.
10 Jellyfish Box jellyfish are cnidarian invertebrates distinguished by their cube-shaped medusae. Some species of box jellyfish produce extremely potent venom: Chironex fleckeri, Carukia barnesi and Malo kingi.

Sometimes it's not their fault that you get stung. You're in their territory. Also, there are usually signs posted when jellyfish are likely to be present. There are certain places and seasons where you are more likely to run into them, so if you just pay attention to the warning signs and are cautious, you should be fine.

I'm sorry, but jellyfish just float without control. There's no epic chase for their prey. If a predator with immunity comes, they're done for.

I never got stung by these blobs.

The Contenders
11 Manta Ray Manta rays are large rays belonging to the genus Manta. The larger species, M. birostris, reaches 7 m in width while the smaller, M. alfredi, reaches 5.5 m. Both have triangular pectoral fins, horn-shaped cephalic fins and large, forward-facing mouths.

Beautiful! They are one of the few animals able to recognize themselves in a mirror!

12 Sea Otter The Sea Otter (Enhydra lutris) is a marine mammal that are natively found in the coasts of eastern and northern part of the Northern Pacific Ocean. This is the heaviest member of the weasel family but also one of the smallest among the marine mammals.

Without these, the whole kelp forests would collapse. Kelp forests also provide us with lots of oxygen, so without these guys, the ocean would fall apart.

Adorable little things! I love how cute they are and the way they roll onto their backs. Also, when they want to impress the opposite gender, they give their loved one a nice seashell they found. So cute!

They're cute, and I love it when they eat seaweed and lay on their backs.

13 Firefly Squid A bioluminescent cephalopod found in the western Pacific Ocean, the Firefly Squid uses its light-producing abilities for camouflage and communication. It is most commonly observed during its spawning season, when it gathers in large numbers.

Manatees are the adorable, grey, wrinkled sea creatures that are impossible to dislike. They are so chubby, making them super cute. They are sometimes mistaken for mermaids.

20 Mantis Shrimp The mantis shrimp, or stomatopod, is a type of marine crustacean of the order Stomatopoda. Most species can grow to around 10 centimetres in length, though a few species reach up to 38 cm.

I love seeing a pretty big fish come up to this thing, thinking, "Oh, this little thing will make a perfect breakfast for me," and trying to kill it. But then it gets its butt kicked by the Mantis Shrimp, and the Mantis Shrimp is like, "Stay away from me, or I'll give you another major wound!"

Mantis shrimp can punch as hard as a .22 caliber bullet! They are so deadly and cool!

These things are amazing. They can see more than five times the colors humans can, punch up to 80 km per hour, and are just very colorful.

The blue whale's long and slender body can... read more

Best animals ever. They can reach 175 tonnes. Even 22 orcas cannot kill a full-grown blue whale. Despite their size, they never really attack people. Even when an orca pod attacks a blue whale, it runs away instead of fighting them, even though it could.

23 Walrus The walrus is a large flippered marine mammal with a discontinuous distribution about the North Pole in the Arctic Ocean and subarctic seas of the Northern Hemisphere.
24 Clown Fish Clownfish or anemonefish are fishes from the subfamily Amphiprioninae in the family Pomacentridae. Thirty species are recognized: one in the genus Premnas, while the remaining are in the genus Amphiprion.
25 Blobfish The blobfish is a deep sea fish of the family Psychrolutidae. It inhabits the deep waters off the coasts of mainland Australia and Tasmania, as well as the waters of New Zealand.
