Movie Review - Beauty and the Beast (1991)

MegaSoulhero As we all know, a live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast will be coming out soon! So before it comes out, I will be reviewing the original animated film as well as the crappy sequels! Yay. Well let's get started!

So I'm pretty sure we all know the story of Beauty and the Beast! An independent girl named Belle lives in a small town with her father who is an inventor. One day, her father gets lost in the woods and finds a castle. A prince who was turned into a beast locks him up for trespassing until Belle decides to take her father's place to save him. The other residents of the castle, Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, Chip, and others who were cursed, realize that Belle might be the one to break the spell by having her and the Beast fall in love. Unfortunately, Gaston who wants to marry Belle does whatever it takes to be with her and attempts to kill the Beast! This movie is amazing! I really love it! It's not like other princess films! When Belle and Beast first meet each other, they don't instantly fall in love like what happens in most fairy tales! They take their time getting to know each other and based on what we see, it looks like it takes them a long time to actually fall for each other! This is how a lot of relationships are formed!

I really love every single character in this film! Belle is a very beautiful girl but she doesn't care about her looks! That's what makes her special! The Beast may seem like a jerk, but he is very well developed and we end up really caring more about him as the film goes on! The design of him is also very awesome! The other characters that live in the castle such as Lumiere, Cogsworth, etc. are all very funny and enjoyable! And Gaston is a pretty interesting villain! He acts like the hero of the town and is very full of himself. He wants to marry Belle and lets nothing get in his way! Now let's talk about the songs! Every single one of them is amazing! This movie probably has one of the best soundtracks in a Disney film! And the animation is just stunning! Especially that ballroom scene! You can tell how much detail the animators put into these locations and the character designs! The message of the film is that inner beauty is better than outer beauty! It didn't matter how the Beast looked as long as he was beautiful on the inside! Although, my only problem with the film is the Beast transforming back into a human. It's great that the curse was lifted, but we grown to really like him as a beast. Plus, his human form doesn't look too attractive. But that's just a small problem. The rest of the film is amazing! It was the first animated film to be nominated for best picture at the Oscars and I can certainly see why!

Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite Disney movies and my favorite Disney princess movie! A lot of brilliant and creative work was put into it! The songs, the animation, the characters, all of it is great! I really hope the live action film will be good! I still don't like the idea of Emma Watson playing Belle though. Anyway, my next review is going to be The Enchanted Christmas! Can't wait! (sarcasm)

Score: 10/10

This is why I told you not to let your nostalgia affect the way you see things. This is a 10/10 movie, I agree, but I feel like you let this affect your opinion on the new movie. - DCfnaf
