Treasure Planet Movie Review

MegaSoulhero Treasure Planet is the Disney movie that Ron and John made after making Hercules which of course is not the best Disney movie out there. This movie, however, looked very interesting. I watched it for the first time a few weeks ago. So let's talk about it!

The movie is basically a futuristic version of Treasure Island. It's about a guy named Jim Hawkins who finds a sphere that shows him how to get to Treasure Planet. So he goes on an adventure with a few other people in a spaceship made to look like a pirate ship and they set out to find the treasure. And this movie is very... meh. I really wanted to like this movie more than I did but it honestly wasn't that great. I'll give it credit, the visuals are pretty amazing! However, the futuristic setting is kind of strange. Why does the spaceship they travel in have to look like a pirate ship? It's cool and clever, but it doesn't make sense! Also, despite this movie taking place in the future, not everything is futuristic! It pretty much combines futuristic technology with stuff from an old time period. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense and it's very confusing. The futuristic stuff in this movie looks cool, but not when combined with another time period.

Now let's talk about the characters! I don't particularly like Jim Hawkins but at times he could be a great hero. John Silver is very enjoyable! In this movie he's a cyborg which is beyond awesome! Emma Thompson voices the captain of the ship, Amelia. Amelia is basically an anthropomorphic cat. Normally I hate cats but Amelia is actually my favorite character in this movie! Doppler is pretty much a stereotypical scientist but can be funny at times. And as for B.E.N.... I HATE HIM SO MUCH! He is by far the most annoying character I've seen in a Disney movie! He is right up there with Jar Jar Binks! Also, the fact that he's rendered in 3D animation leads to another problem. Even though I stated that the visuals are amazing, there are times when they use too much CGI. The mixture of both 3D and 2D animation looks kind of weird at times. In Ron and John's other films, it worked out fine. But here it can sometimes look like a mess.

To sum it up, this film is just okay. It's not something I would watch again but there are some good things about it. Definitely better than Hercules! And I can certainly say that the next movie I'll be reviewing is very underrated!

Score: 6/10

Have you ever done a review for Atlantis? - visitor

No and I most likely won't be reviewing that movie unless I have a reason to. - MegaSoulhero

I would give it a 8/10 - visitor

I agree with you on this one. I saw part of it in my 7th grade Language Arts class because we'd just finished Treasure Island (a mediocre book) and yeah this movie was meh but slightly worse than the book (they ruined Dr. Livesy by combining him with Squire Trelawney! ). Either way it just wasn't my thing. - Anonymousxcxc

I think it deserves a 8/10 looking back. John Silver is such an underratred villain. - iliekpiez
