The Namco Tales series has been a beloved staple of the JRPG genre for over two decades, with each new installment introducing a host of unique characters for players to fall in love with. From the charismatic and charming to the stoic and brooding, the franchise has created an eclectic mix of personalities that have captured the hearts of gamers worldwide. But with so many memorable characters to choose from, who truly stands out as the best of the best? In this top ten list, let's delve into the deepest lore and analyze each character's personality, backstory, and impact on their respective games to determine the greatest characters in the Namco Tales franchise. (Note: This list may include spoilers, so if you have yet to play through some of the games, proceed with caution!)
The Top Ten
1 Yuri Lowell (Tales of Vesperia)

He does what must be done, and that's why I like Yuri. Just the entire vigilante character about him, and the fact that he is willing to kill for his goals and yet bear the burden of his crimes. He is in between an anti-hero and a hero, as he isn't a villain at any point, and that is actually rather well done.

2 Luke Fon Fabre (Tales of the Abyss)

The character development, in my opinion, is what makes him such a good character. You must have an amazing character on your hands if one can grow from a hated, spoiled brat to a likable character.

3 Asch the Bloody (Tales of the Abyss)

I have to admit, Asch is a tragic character. Luke is tragic as well, but unlike him, whose character development mainly defines his character, Asch is defined by his entire backstory in general. He still has the ability to stand strong after having his entire family stolen from him, and yet he is a decent person underneath his angry demeanor.

4 Milla Maxwell (Tales of Xillia)

Milla is another one with great character development. She starts off as distant and almost robotic, but it is clear she grows to like the rest of the group throughout the game. Also, the whole God is a girl idea behind her is amazingly well done.

5 Raine Sage (Tales of Symphonia)

Just the hilarious contrast between her ruin mode and her normal self is really well designed, in my opinion. Even her theme song is in two versions, ruin and normal, which is actually a very unique concept.

6 Colette Brunel (Tales of Symphonia)

For a 16-year-old that has gone through so much, it is a wonder she stays mentally strong throughout it all. That amazes me. In her entire life as the Chosen, she has been deceived, burdened with assassination attempts, and sent across the world on foot (until you get the Rhiards, but that is unimportant).

She is really nothing more than a cursed individual, and the fact that she can handle that is amazing.

She is a sad and relatable character. She is one of the many reasons Tales of Symphonia is so great.

7 Senel Coolidge (Tales of Legendia)

It is amazing just what he would do for his sister. Just how desperate he was to save her when she got kidnapped at the beginning of the game.

8 Rita Mordio (Tales of Vesperia)

There are some that hate Rita, but I just find her hotheadedness hilarious.

9 Mieu (Tales of the Abyss)

After being hit down and abused so many times by his master, how in the world is he still loyal?! It says that he knew that he wasn't a bad person, but he is amazingly loyal.

10 Velvet Crowe (Tales of Berseria)
The Contenders
11 Magilou Mayvin (Tales of Berseria)

Best personality out of any Tales character!

12 Kratos (Tales of Symphonia)

Mieu beat out Kratos, seriously?!

13 Sheena Fujibayashi (Tales of Symphonia)
14 Tenebrae (Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World)

Just because Tenebrae is an awesome character, and his character design is very good.

15 Cress (Tales of Phantasia)
16 Jade Curtiss (Tales of Abyss)
17 Eizen (Tales of Berseria)

The Reaper's curse keeps Eizen from being number one.

18 Lloyd Irving (Tales of Symphonia)
19 Zelos Wilder (Tales of Symphonia)
20 Regal (Tales of Symphonia)
21 Sophie (Tales of Graces)

She has probably the most complex and original arc of any Tales character. Basically an android girl who wants to find her purpose, she has to deal with the fact that she is immortal and will lose all of her friends someday. Also, she fights against doing what she was programmed to do. Plus, she is likable and extremely adorable to boot! Easily the most unique heroine in the series as well, she isn't either a plucky childhood friend or a silent badass who slowly warms up to the protagonist.

22 Mithos (Tales of Symphonia)

Mithos is an amazing character, I have to agree.

23 Leon Magnus (Tales of Destiny)
24 Karol Capel (Tales of Vesperia)

He has the most character growth of any in his cast, and not to mention a lovable personality.

25 Guy Cecil (Tales of the Abyss)
