1998, in my opinion, was the best year in human history. We were the most advanced as humans at that time. We had a good economy, dial-up internet (which allowed us to balance real life and online), things were less expensive, people had fun and went outside, people worked together to solve problems, and life was simpler as a whole. Dating was easy too.

There were no downsides about that year, besides the Kosovo War.
