Top 10 Best Years in History
One of the greatest years of my life, if not the greatest, alongside 2016. Too many things went well during this period, as I was just in middle school.
I even had my first girlfriend, and the new rise of rap was lit.
This year has been a rollercoaster ride for many people. But we should not forget the amazing things that have happened this year. We have seen the rise of new technologies and innovations, as well as new leaders and role models.
This year has been a great one for many reasons.
2017 is the best year because it is filled with new opportunities and breakthroughs in all fields - from politics to technology to science.
The Year of the Dragon. More specifically, the Year of the Golden Dragon (search it up if you don't know what that last part is). It is also the start of a new millennium. I feel so special to have been born in this year. Other than that, things were good in 2000. It was way better than 1999.
Great year. It was the only year of the 2000s with a strong economy, the beginning of the millennium, the year of the dragon, and a leap year. I could go on and on.
The year 2000 was an amazing start to the new millennium. The world did not end, pop culture was still decent, and TV shows on my local TV stations as well as PBS were amazing. There were not many tragedies unlike in 2001, 2009, 2016, 1939, 1941, 1914, and many other years. If only the years that followed, especially the late 2000s and 2010s, were as good.
It was awesome because we had new technology like smartphones and good computers, but it wasn't a problem with people being glued to them, and our life didn't revolve around technology. Probably the best year of my life so far.
2012 comes very close, but this year was special because the music was better, and the world was a better place.
It was the most beautiful year, with parties and loyal friends, and there were no stupid ideas spread socially. Everyone was fun and interesting. It was a year in which we witnessed many developments, including the emergence of touch devices and beautiful shows.
It might not have been for you, but 2013 is hands down and forever will be the best year of my life. The music was really hype that year, the TV and movies were great as well, and to put the cherry on top, I went on a cross-country road trip from my home in Indiana and did a complete circle around the West Coast. Hell yeah.
Why is everyone hating on this year? I thought it was great. We had good music, and there were not many bad things happening in the world. It was really the last good year before smartphones and social media took over and ruined everything. It should be higher on the list in my opinion.
America was so much better in 2018 and the years near it. President Trump handled the economy very well, and our country was running smoothly. I do not remember anything negative going on in my life during these years. Truly the best year of my life until 2020 came and Sleepy Joe took office.
Most eventful year of the late 2010s, in my opinion. Infinity War might be my favorite movie, a lot of memorable trends happened on the internet, TikTok wasn't big yet, and YouTube was a mixture of good and bad. Still a noteworthy year, however.
This year was a really good one for me. I was 9 years old at the time. Back then, YouTube seemed to be just right, not too old and not too modern. I also remember some songs like Gangnam Style that were extremely popular towards the end of the year. Overall, it was one of the best years of my life. I would give it a 9 out of 10.
Honestly, 2009-2012 was an awesome time to be a kid. There were no smartphones. Music, movies, and cartoons were all still good, and video games were awesome. Kids actually went outside to play instead of staying inside on electronics. That era was absolutely amazing. The past couple of years just haven't been the same.
The pandemic stuff was not great for some people, but for me, it was a great year. I could stay at my home doing nothing, and that was great.
The best year in the 2020s, in retrospect, was 2021. With Covid restrictions loosening, Euro 2020, and the Tokyo Olympics 2020 finally being held, peace still prevailed in Ukraine. However, Afghanistan fell to the Taliban, Russia flexed its muscles on the Ukraine border, and we lost Prince Philip, Desmond Tutu, and Frederik de Klerk, two anti-apartheid fighters.
For me personally, this has been a lot better than 2020. The coronavirus pandemic has toned down a bit, and I was able to travel by car around Southern Sweden, which was a nice semester!
My childhood! Ode to my father - that movie was awesome! Movies, sports, and video games were amazing. Now, Gen Alpha ruined everything 10 years later.
2024 sucks!
My peak happiness year. Where I lived, my childhood was happy, the days were long and warm, and the music was amazing, particularly Pumpin Blood by NONONO. I really wish I could go back. It was so full of optimism, too.
Best year ever, in my opinion. It was the best year for sports, music, and a great year for video games. I had so much fun that year and really want to go back.
Oh, phew, Obama ended the Iraq War. That year also saw Moves Like Jagger and the rise of One Direction. But I will never forget that a tyrannical app was invented that year.
I am forever grateful I grew up around and before this era. Everything was cool, childhood was enjoyable, and I had tons of fun with family and friends at school. TV shows were really great, going outside and to different places, seeing relatives, and traveling lots.
The music from this year, or that I heard from this year, is incredibly nostalgic. I don't know, 2011 was just a milestone of my innocent/golden days of being a child.
2007 and 2008 are the years that I have good memories of. Sometimes I get flashbacks from those years and I almost cry. I spent so much good time with my friends outside. Now they are gone due to drugs, disappearance, moving away, or talking with different people. I hope a time inventor is created and can move us back to the years 2007 and 2008.
So many great video games came out in 2007. Team Fortress 2, Super Mario Galaxy, God of War 2, Manhunt 2, Metroid Prime 3, Halo 3, Mario Party 8, and Modern Warfare were just a few. There was so much more!
The year of the third season of the recent Doctor Who. This was my favorite year because of the companion. I also believe there were no global catastrophes.
In a way, it feels uneventful, but at the same time, it feels like the default and most peaceful year of them all. It was the last year before the small problems started in 2016, and now the big problems after 2020. Am I noticing a pattern? Hopefully, 2025 means a comeback to peace, but I feel like it will just be even worse.
I see why people hate this year, with terrorism, bombings, shootings, and so on. However, some of the good things were that our economy was pretty good. It was also a good year for movies, animation, video games, and some songs. There's good and bad to every year, even the year 2000.
Oh yes, H.W. Bush becoming president was good. He said he would cut taxes, and the Cold War ended in his term. It all went tragic when H.W. Bush checked his watch in the 1992 election, which Bill Clinton won. I would not have voted for Bill Clinton in 1992 if I were alive.
It was a great year. The Berlin Wall fell, giving East Europeans the freedom to travel to Western Europe and vice versa. Pop culture was great, and The Simpsons first aired (and it was at its best).
I wish I was born in 1989.
And for those of you who think that this year sucked just because Taylor Swift was born, grow up. She may have come into the world, but at the time, we did not know she would end up being the terrible pop singer she is today.
So far, this year has been WAY better than 2020 and 2021. Usually, at the start of January, something bad always happens at the start of the 2020s. This year took a different turn and actually did good. Go '22!
A very memorable year. So many things happened. If I had the ability to time travel, I'd surely time travel to the year 2022.
Taylor Swift came out with the album Midnights.
This was the best year in the world. Many good things came out, like Doom 3 for the original Xbox, Quake 4, and King Kong the movie.
The world became an amazing place for once. I was born! And YouTube was created in 2005, so, you know, I actually HAVE a YouTube channel... Random Pete.
I get so emotional when I think of how much I'd love to go back to this year.
Best year. WWE was great, especially Jeff Hardy, Japanese manga and anime, X-Play, music, television, and the Nintendo DSi, which helped shape Nintendo consoles. Naruto was just great when people weren't into phones and when people had BlackBerrys with Let It Rock as the popular song.
Good movies, like Inglourious Basterds. This year was the best year for me because so many great things happened! I got my video game console for the first time, and Assassin's Creed II came out.
This was my year. Everything I did was very memorable, and all my sports went well, mainly Federer winning the French Open and Wimbledon.
Don't forget the excitement of watching the build-up to the moon landing with the earlier Apollo missions in 1969. Also, Concorde's first flight, Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Waters, as well as Woodstock. The first microchip and ARPANET were also introduced.
We thought science and technology would solve all our problems back then. And why not, with all this going on? It was also the year Star Trek was first shown on UK TV.
It was a great year to be 11/12, like me, with the future looking so bright.
This year was crazy! COVID, insomnia was at its peak for me, but I did a lot with family during the pandemic. Bike rides during the day were a blast.
Remote learning from school had its ups and downs. I had great times with my best friend around this time. The number of people who died this year was overwhelming. It made me feel uneasy because there were too many to remember. I'm not saying it's a good thing, I just thought it was crazy.
Video games were my best friend. Building and playing with Legos was pretty epic. I played Minecraft for the first time this year because of the Nether update. I also started doing long runs.
The media, news, and internet were haywire. This decade was the reason for losing 90 percent of "friends" who were not even real.
It makes me feel good to see 2002 near the top, not just because it was the year I was born in, but also because it seemed like a great year in general. Even though most people were still recovering from 9/11, there were a lot of neat things that happened that year.
Great movies, great TV shows, great video games, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network were at their peak in quality - you name it!
The year I was born! There were also lots of great TV shows out there, great games, great music, and lots of other great stuff! I think this should be number 1. Although, if time travel ever existed, I might go back to 2000 and see what it was like.
2010 was the best. 2011 was very good, and 2016 was great as well. Every other year I feel like just had too many problems, 2014 almost had that feel but it was just trying too hard.
Dude, 2016 is so underrated. This year was the best year for memes. Everything was so interesting, like the Election, No Man's Sky, YouTube drama. The events that were "bad" in 2016 honestly made the year better. 2017 was a pretty good year also, but 2016 is so low I had to vote.
The best year in terms of music, fashion (you can't lie, it was iconic), the uprising of the galaxy trend, and the first season of Stranger Things.
This was the best year of my life. I was 9, and the world was my oyster. Sure, I was being systematically oppressed, but it was still fun.
TV was way better than it is today, especially the cartoons. Not just the cartoons, but all of it. Games were way better too.
My favorite game of all time, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, was released this year. A lot of good rap music came out too, like College Dropout, Encore, and Madvillainy.
Half-Life 2 was released this year. Do I need to say more?
Populism started to fade. The Dow index rose to a record high. The Tokyo Olympics were set to begin in 2020, and I got an A for the first time in a Japanese exam.
Nice year. I can't remember what happened that year, but I remember I used to have great times.
Listing stuff that came out each year to help people vote.
In 2019, some movies we got were Captain Marvel, Avengers Endgame, Toy Story 4, X-Men: Phoenix, HTTYD Hidden World, and Rise of Skywalker. The anime Demon Slayer started that year, as well as Helpful Fox Senko-san.
Games we got that year were FNAF Help Wanted, Dota Underlords, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Showdown Bandit.
You can reply with anything I missed.
Great year for rock music, in my opinion, because my favorite album came out that year, One-X, which is from Three Days Grace. It was also the year Evanescence, another one of my favorite bands, released their album The Open Door.
Can't believe it's been 10 years now. It was a great year for me, I still remember the Emo and Myspace times and having awesome friends.
This had the best music ever. Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, Fergie, Usher, and Justin Timberlake. The years following were good too, but they do not compare to 2006. There were no people walking mindlessly around on their phones, and people were generally more respectful from what I know.
The Dark Knight was released this year. Should I say more?
1999 was the greatest year in history. I mean, everyone loved that year and is nostalgic for it. That year was part of the golden era, which ranged from 1995 to 2006.
Everything was at its peak: music was so great, some movies and TV shows were excellent, and it was also probably the greatest year ever for sports. If I had a time travel machine, I would absolutely love to live in that year.
The year I was born in and the year the Euro was put into circulation. My soul goes out to Europe, particularly the UK, because of Brexit. Hope they can figure it out. By the way, I'm a South African.
Toy Story was released this year, which was not only the first Pixar film released in theaters but also the first-ever wholly computer-generated film. Microsoft also made history with the release of Windows 95, and the dot-com bubble started. Likewise, the DVD was invented.
