Top 10 Best Years in History

The Top Ten
1 2017 2017 (MMXVII) was a common year starting on Sunday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2017th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 17th year of the 3rd millennium, the 17th year of the 21st century, and the 8th year of the 2010s decade.

This year was one of my favorite years. Funny YouTubers like iDubbbz and Filthy Frank were at their peak. We still had trends like fidget spinners, dabbing, and saying the word lit was actually cool. This was also the year of diss tracks. I miss this.

This year has been a rollercoaster ride for many people. But we should not forget the amazing things that have happened this year. We have seen the rise of new technologies and innovations, as well as new leaders and role models. This year has been a great one for many reasons.

2017 is the best year because it is filled with new opportunities and breakthroughs in all fields - from politics to technology to science.

Well, the stock market is at an all-time high, and the US reestablished relationships with Israel (thanks to Donald Trump). It may be a good year! We're only 28 days in, though. Fingers crossed!

2 2010 2010 was a common year starting on Friday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2010th year based on Anno Domini/Common Era designations. It is the 10th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 1st year of the 2010s decade.

It was awesome because we had new technology like smartphones and good computers, but it wasn't a problem with people being glued to them, and our life didn't revolve around technology. Probably the best year of my life so far. 2012 comes very close, but this year was special because the music was better, and the world was a better place.

It was the most beautiful year, with parties and loyal friends, and there were no stupid ideas spread socially. Everyone was fun and interesting. It was a year in which we witnessed many developments, including the emergence of touch devices and beautiful shows.

Connected with a girl I liked. Lots of great music was produced that year. Pretty sure Bin Laden was assassinated around this time. Alright year for me at least.

3 2000 The year 2000 (MM) was a century leap year that started on a Saturday according to the Gregorian calendar. It marked the 2000th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations. It was the last year of the 2nd millennium and the 20th century, and the 1st year of the 2000s decade.

The Year of the Dragon. More specifically, the Year of the Golden Dragon (search it up if you don't know what that last part is). It is also the start of a new millennium. I feel so special to have been born in this year. Other than that, things were good in 2000. It was way better than 1999.

Great year. The only year of the 2000s with a strong economy, the beginning of the millennium, the year of the dragon, a leap year, and I could go on and on.

The 2000 was an amazing start to the new millennium. The world did not end, pop culture was still decent, T.V. shows on my local T.V. stations as well as PBS were amazing, and there were not many tragedies unlike 2001, 2009, 2016, 1939, 1941, 1914, and many other years. If only the years that followed (especially the late 2000's and 2010's) were as good.

4 2013 2013 (MMXIII) was a common year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2013th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 13th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 4th year of the 2010s decade.

It might not have been for you people, but 2013 is hands down and forever will be the best year of my life. The music was really hype that year, the TV and movies were as well, and to put the cherry on top, I went on a cross-country road trip from my home in Indiana and did a complete circle around the West Coast! Hell yeah!

Why is everyone hating on this year? I thought it was great. We had good music, and there weren't many bad things happening in the world. It was really the last good year before smartphones and social media took over and ruined everything. Should be higher on the list in my opinion.

This year should switch places with the crappy 2011. This year had lots of good things, like games, music, and books. The only good song I can remember from 2011 was Hang Em High by Dropkick Murphys, and even that wasn't very good. I can't even think of a good game from 2011.

5 2012 2012 (MMXII) was a leap year starting on Sunday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2012th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 12th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 3rd year of the 2010s decade.

This year was a really good one for me. I was 9 years old at the time. Back then, YouTube seemed to be just right, not too old and not too modern. I also remember some songs like Gangnam Style that were extremely popular towards the end of the year. Overall, it was one of the best years of my life. I'd give it a 9/10.

Honestly, 2009-2012 was an awesome time to be a kid. There were no smartphones. Music, movies, and cartoons were all still good. Video games were awesome. Kids actually still went outside to play instead of being inside on electronics. That era was just absolutely amazing! The past couple of years just haven't been the same.

I don't know why, but there was something so magical about 2012. I just can't put my finger on what it was. Something about it was special, though.

6 2011 2011 (MMXI) was a common year starting on Saturday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2011th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations.

Oh phew, Obama ended the Iraq War. There was also Moves like Jagger and the rise of One Direction. But I will never forget a tyrannical app was invented that year.

I am forever grateful I grew up around and before this era. Everything was cool, childhood was enjoyable, and I had tons of fun with family and friends at school. TV shows were really great, going outside and to different places, seeing relatives, and traveling lots. The music from this year, or that I heard from this year, is incredibly nostalgic. I don't know, 2011 was just a milestone of my innocent/golden days of being a child.

2011 IS THE BEST! 2011 really changed my life, and everything in that year for me was good! I praise 2011 for what it has done for me every single day. The memories of 2011 shall live on FOREVER!

7 2021 2021 (MMXXI) was a common year starting on Friday of the Gregorian calendar, the 21st year of the third millennium, the 21st year of the 21st century, and the 2nd year of the 2020s. 2021 was scheduled to host many major events that were originally scheduled for 2020.

In addition, many pandemic restrictions from 2020 were lifted in 2021 leading to the reopening of many businesses and schools,... read more

The pandemic stuff was not great for some people, but for me, it was a great year because I could stay at my home doing nothing, and that was great.

The best year in the 2020s, in retrospect, with Covid restrictions loosening, Euro 2020, and the Tokyo Olympics 2020 finally being held, and peace still in Ukraine. Although Afghanistan fell to the Taliban, Russia flexed its muscles on the Ukraine border, and we lost Prince Philip and two anti-apartheid fighters, Desmond Tutu and Frederik de Klerk.

For me personally, this has been a lot better than 2020. The coronavirus pandemic has toned down a bit, and I was able to travel by car around Southern Sweden, which was a nice semester!

8 2007 2007 (MMVII) was a common year starting on Monday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2007th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 7th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 8th year of the 2000s decade.

2007 and 2008 are the years that I have good memories of. Sometimes I get flashbacks from those years, and I almost cry. I spent so much good time with my friends outside. Now they are gone (drugs, disappearance, moved away, talks with different people). I hope a time inventor is created and can move us back to the years 2007 and 2008!

So many great video games came out that year! Team Fortress 2, Super Mario Galaxy, God of War 2, Manhunt 2, Metroid Prime 3, Halo 3, Mario Party 8, Modern Warfare, and so much more!

The year of the third season of the recent Doctor Who. This was my favourite year because of the companion. I also believe there were no global catastrophes.

9 2015 2015 (MMXV) was a common year starting on Thursday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2015th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 15th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 6th year of the 2010s decade.

In a way, it feels uneventful, but at the same time, it feels like the default and most peaceful year of them all. It was the last year before the small problems started coming in 2016, and now the big problems after 2020. Am I noticing a pattern? Hopefully, 2025 means a comeback to peace, but I feel like it'll just be even worse.

2015 was a great year. I remember my first-grade class so vividly. Everything was so hopeful, and there was a great balance between technology and just going outside.

I see why people hate this year, with terrorism, bombings, shootings, and so on. However, some of the good things were that our economy was pretty good. It was also a good year for movies, animation, video games, and some songs. There's good and bad to every year, even the year 2000.

10 2018 2018 (MMXVIII) was a common year starting on Monday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2018th year of the Common Era (CE), the 9th year of the 2010s decade, the 18th year of the 21st century, and the 18th year of the 3rd millennium.

America was so much better in 2018 and the years near it. President Trump handled the economy very well, and our country was running smoothly. I don't remember anything negative going on in my life during these years. Truly the best year of my life... until 2020 came and Sleepy Joe took office.

Most eventful year of the late 2010s, in my opinion. Infinity War might be my favorite movie, a lot of memorable trends happened on the internet, TikTok wasn't big yet, and YouTube was a mixture of good and bad. Still a noteworthy year, however.

I would not be the person that I am today without this year because things changed and happened like it was nothing this year!

The Contenders
11 2014 2014 (MMXIV) was a common year starting on Wednesday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2014th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 14th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 5th year of the 2010s decade.

My peak happiness year. Where I lived, my childhood was happy, the days were long and warm, and the music was amazing, particularly Pumpin Blood by NONONO. I really wish I could go back. It was so full of optimism, too.

Best year ever, in my opinion. Best year for sports, best year for music, and it was a great year for video games. Also, I had so much fun that year. I really want to go back there.

This was one of the best years for movies. We got Whiplash, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Edge of Tomorrow, and so much more.

12 1989

Oh yes, H.W. Bush becoming president was good. He said he would cut taxes, and the Cold War ended in his term. It all went tragic when H.W. Bush checked his watch in the 1992 election, which Bill Clinton won. I would not have voted for Bill Clinton in 1992 if I were alive.

It was a great year. The Berlin Wall fell, giving East Europeans the freedom to travel to Western Europe and vice versa. Pop culture was great, and The Simpsons first aired (and it was at its best). I wish I was born in 1989.

And for those of you who think that this year sucked just because Taylor Swift was born, grow up! She may have come into the world, but at the time, we did not know she would end up being the terrible pop singer she is today.

This was a very important year, and a lot of good stuff happened. Why is 1945 all the way down at #56? One of the worst and most deadly wars ever ended that year!

13 2005 2005 was a common year starting on Saturday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2005th year of the Common Era and Anno Domini designations. It was the 6th year of the 2000s decade.

This was the best year in the world. Many good things came out, like Doom 3 for the original Xbox, Quake 4, King Kong the movie, etc.

The world became an amazing place for once... I was born! And YouTube was created in 2005, so... you know, I actually HAVE a YouTube channel... Random Pete

I get so emotional when I think of how much I'd love to go back to this year.

14 2009 2009 was a common year starting on Thursday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2009th year of the Common Era and Anno Domini designations. It was the 10th and final year of the 2000s decade.

Good movies, like Inglourious Basterds. This year was the best year for me because so many great things happened! Got my video game console for the first time, and Assassin's Creed II came out...

This was my year. Everything I did was very memorable, and all my sports went well. (Mainly Federer winning the French Open and Wimbledon.)

Best year. WWE was great, especially Jeff Hardy, Japanese manga and anime, X-Play, music, television, and the Nintendo DSi, which helped shape Nintendo consoles. Naruto was just great when people weren't into phones and when people had BlackBerrys with Let It Rock as the popular song.

15 1969 In 1969, humanity achieved a monumental milestone as NASA's Apollo 11 mission successfully landed the first humans, Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, on the Moon. The Woodstock Festival, a symbol of the counterculture movement, brought together hundreds of thousands of people for a celebration of music and peace. This year also marked the debut of the Internet's precursor, ARPANET, which laid... read more

Don't forget the excitement of watching the build-up to the moon landing with the earlier Apollo missions in 1969. Also, Concorde's first flight, Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Waters, as well as Woodstock. The first microchip and ARPANET were also introduced. We thought science and technology would solve all our problems back then, and why not, with all this going on? It was also the year Star Trek was first shown on UK TV. It was a great year to be 11/12 (like me), with the future looking so bright.

This has to be the best year. It is interesting how on all of these 'opinion' sites the younger generation chooses only those years that they remember and ignores anything that actually happened. Do they still teach history in schools?

The pinnacle of human scientific achievement: the moon landing.
The pinnacle of human artistic and musical achievement: Woodstock.
It's all been downhill from there.

16 2002 2002 (MMII) was a common year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2002nd year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 2nd year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 3rd year of the 2000s decade.

It makes me feel good to see 2002 near the top, not just because it was the year I was born in, but also because it seemed like a great year in general. Even though most people were still recovering from 9/11, there were a lot of neat things that happened that year. Great movies, great TV shows, great video games, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network were at their peak in quality – you name it!

The year I was born! There were also lots of great TV shows out there, great games, great music, and lots of other great stuff! I think this should be number 1. Although, if time travel ever existed, I might go back to 2000 and see what it was like.

I was born, The Eminem Show was released, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City came out, Spider-Man made its debut, and much more.

17 2016 2016 (MMXVI) was a leap year starting on Friday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2016th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 16th year of the 3rd millennium, the 16th year of the 21st century, and the 7th year of the 2010s decade.

2010 was the best. 2011 was very good. 2016 was great as well. Every other year I feel like just had too many problems. 2014 almost had that feel but it was just trying too hard.

The best year in terms of music, fashion (you can't lie, it was iconic), the uprising of the galaxy trend, and the first season of Stranger Things!

Dude, 2016 is so underrated. This year was the best year for memes. Everything was so interesting, like the Election, No Man's Sky, YouTube drama. The events that were "bad" in 2016 honestly made the year better.

2017 was a pretty good year also, but 2016 is so low I had to vote.

18 2004 2004 was a leap year starting on Thursday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2004th year of the Common Era and Anno Domini designations

This was the best year of my life. I was 9, and the world was my oyster. Sure, I was a SPED being systematically oppressed, but boy, was it fun.

TV was way better than it is today. Like, the cartoons were so lit! Not just the cartoons, but all of it.

Games were way better too.

My favorite game of all time was released this year, called Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. A lot of good rap music came out too, like College Dropout, Encore, Madvillainy, etc.

Half-Life 2 was released in this year. Do I need to say more?

19 2022 2022 (MMXXII) was a common year starting on Saturday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2022nd year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 22nd year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 3rd year of the 2020s decade.

So far, this year has been WAY better than 2020 and 2021.

Usually, at the start of January, something bad always happens at the start of the 2020s. This year took a different turn and actually did GOOD.

Go '22!

A very memorable year. So many things happened. If I had the ability to time travel, I'd surely time travel to the year 2022.

Taylor Swift came out with the album Midnights!

20 2019 2019 (MMXIX) was a common year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2019th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 19th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 10th and last year of the 2010s decade.

Populism started to fade. The Dow index rose to a record high. The Tokyo Olympics were set to begin in 2020. I got an A for the first time in a Japanese exam.

Nice year. I can't remember what happened that year, but I remember I used to have great times.

Listing stuff that came out each year to help people vote.
In 2019, some movies we got were Captain Marvel, Avengers Endgame, Toy Story 4, X-Men: Phoenix, HTTYD Hidden World and Rise of Skywalker. The anime Demon Slayer started that year, as well as Helpful Fox Senko-san.
Games we got that year were FNAF Help Wanted, Dota Underlords, Seiko Shadows Die Twice and Showdown Bandit.
You can reply with anything I missed.

21 2006 2006 was a common year starting on Sunday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2006th year based on the Common Era/Anno Domini designations. It is the 6th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 7th year of the 2000s decade.

Great year for rock music, in my opinion, because my favorite album came out that year, One-X, which is from Three Days Grace. It was also the year Evanescence, another one of my favorite bands, released their album The Open Door.

Can't believe it's been 10 years now... It was a great year for me. I still remember the Emo and Myspace times and having awesome friends...

This had THE BEST MUSIC EVER. Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, Fergie, Usher, Justin Timberlake. The years following were good too, but they don't compare to 2006. There were no people walking mindlessly around on their phones, and people were generally more respectful from what I know.

22 2008 2008 was a leap year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2008th year based on the Common Era/Anno Domini designations. It is the 8th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 9th year of the 2000s decade.

The Dark Knight was released this year. Should I say more?

23 1999

1999 was the greatest year in history. I mean, everyone loved that year and is nostalgic for it. That year was part of the golden era, which ranged from 1995 to 2006. Everything was at its peak: music was so great, some movies and TV shows were excellent, and it was also probably the greatest year ever for sports. If I had a time travel machine, I would absolutely love to live in that year.

The year I was born in and the year the Euro was put into circulation. My soul goes out to Europe, particularly the UK, because of Brexit. Hope they can figure it out. By the way, I'm a South African.

The year the world got Tom Cruise playing a sex guru. Probably the best performance of his career, I might add.

24 1995

Toy Story was released this year, which was not only the first Pixar film released in theaters but also the first-ever wholly computer-generated film. Microsoft also made history with the release of Windows 95, and the dot-com bubble started. Likewise, the DVD was invented.

25 1991

The Soviet Union dissolved, ending the Cold War for good. There was also a total solar eclipse that occurred on July 11th of that year. In addition, Nickelodeon made history with its debut of its first three Nicktoons (Doug, Rugrats, and Ren & Stimpy).

The Soviet Union, America's worst enemy, split up and became Russia, and communism fell around the world.

The Greatest Childhood Movie of All Time Came Out in 1991... My Girl. It featured Macaulay Culkin and Anna Chlumsky. Such a classic! Also, Sonic the Hedgehog came out that year too!
