Top 10 Best Years in History

The Top Ten
2017 2017 (MMXVII) was a common year starting on Sunday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2017th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 17th year of the 3rd millennium, the 17th year of the 21st century, and the 8th year of the 2010s decade.

My personal life was pretty good, despite my trypophobia returning and my grandmother having minor health issues.

The pop culture was much better than in 2024. No Skibidi Toilet, no brain rot, no Gen Alpha pop culture, better music, better TV shows, better movies. I was also happier, less busy, and my personal life and pop culture were good until 2020 or 2021, when everything fell apart.

Great pop culture. It was better than 2024's.

Some of the greatest albums, like Flower Boy, Number 1 Angel, Utopia, Sacred Hearts Club, Songs of Experience, Palette, and Walkin', were released! Also, standalone singles from Carly Rae Jepsen and music artists from Asia brought great music.

My personal life was good despite my trypophobia returning and my grandmother having minor health issues.

2000 The year 2000 (MM) was a century leap year that started on a Saturday according to the Gregorian calendar. It marked the 2000th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations. It was the last year of the 2nd millennium and the 20th century, and the 1st year of the 2000s decade.

The new millennium was highly anticipated. I was not born then, but I would have loved to experience it!

2001-2019 were still as good. 2020 was when the world went downhill. I really want to revisit years before 2020!

The Year of the Dragon. More specifically, the Year of the Golden Dragon (search it up if you don't know what that last part is). It is also the start of a new millennium. I feel so special to have been born in this year. Other than that, things were good in 2000. It was way better than 1999.

Great year. It was the only year of the 2000s with a strong economy, the beginning of the millennium, the year of the dragon, and a leap year. I could go on and on.

2010 2010 was a common year starting on Friday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2010th year based on Anno Domini/Common Era designations. It is the 10th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 1st year of the 2010s decade.

It was awesome because we had new technology like smartphones and good computers, but it wasn't a problem with people being glued to them, and our life didn't revolve around technology. Probably the best year of my life so far.

2012 comes very close, but this year was special because the music was better, and the world was a better place.

It was the most beautiful year, with parties and loyal friends, and there were no stupid ideas spread socially. Everyone was fun and interesting. It was a year in which we witnessed many developments, including the emergence of touch devices and beautiful shows.

2013 2013 (MMXIII) was a common year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar. It was the 2013th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 13th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 4th year of the 2010s decade... read more

I get nostalgic for all the years before 2021. 2013 was a very memorable year. I didn't have many problems, and my life was easier. Seven years before everything went to hell.

The pop culture was better too. My personal life was easy, despite my trypophobia at the end of this year, which continued until early 2015.

A classic year. Better personal life. Towards the end of the year, I got trypophobia, but it did not affect me that much. Still a good time.

It might not have been for you, but 2013 is hands down and forever will be the best year of my life. The music was really hype that year, the TV and movies were great as well, and to put the cherry on top, I went on a cross-country road trip from my home in Indiana and did a complete circle around the West Coast. Hell yeah.

2018 2018 (MMXVIII) was a common year starting on Monday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2018th year of the Common Era (CE), the 9th year of the 2010s decade, the 18th year of the 21st century, and the 18th year of the 3rd millennium.

2018 was not as good as 2017. In fact, it's not even close.

2018 was just more boring because it was not that special, in my opinion. However, it was still a great year, to be honest. School was great for me, but the summer vacation was one of the worst because I started having travel sickness.

Regardless, though, it was still a great year because it had a decent F1 season, and it also had great music, video games, and movies.

Not as good as 2017 or 2019, but it was nostalgic. Like I said, all the years before 2020 make me nostalgic. My trypophobia went away in February, which was good, but it didn't make 2018 better than 2017.

The pop culture and music were still good. Expect me to feel nostalgic for all the years before 2020.

2012 2012 (MMXII) was a leap year starting on Sunday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2012th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 12th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 3rd year of the 2010s decade.

This year was a really good one for me. I was 9 years old at the time. Back then, YouTube seemed to be just right, not too old and not too modern. I also remember some songs like Gangnam Style that were extremely popular towards the end of the year. Overall, it was one of the best years of my life. I would give it a 9 out of 10.

Honestly, 2009-2012 was an awesome time to be a kid. There were no smartphones. Music, movies, and cartoons were all still good, and video games were awesome. Kids actually went outside to play instead of staying inside on electronics. That era was absolutely amazing. The past couple of years just haven't been the same.

2011 2011 (MMXI) was a common year starting on Saturday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2011th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations.

Oh, phew, Obama ended the Iraq War. That year also saw Moves Like Jagger and the rise of One Direction. But I will never forget that a tyrannical app was invented that year.

I am forever grateful I grew up around and before this era. Everything was cool, childhood was enjoyable, and I had tons of fun with family and friends at school. TV shows were really great, going outside and to different places, seeing relatives, and traveling lots.

The music from this year, or that I heard from this year, is incredibly nostalgic. I don't know, 2011 was just a milestone of my innocent/golden days of being a child.

2014 2014 (MMXIV) was a common year starting on Wednesday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2014th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 14th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 5th year of the 2010s decade.

Six years before everything went downhill. My life was easier, despite my trypophobia and having minor health issues at the beginning of this year. I was still living in Seoul and experienced better pop culture instead of the Gen Alpha trash from 10 years later.

My childhood! Ode to my father - that movie was awesome! Movies, sports, and video games were amazing. Now, Gen Alpha ruined everything 10 years later.

2024 sucks!

Best year ever, in my opinion. It was the best year for sports, music, and a great year for video games. I had so much fun that year and really want to go back.

2021 2021 (MMXXI) was a common year starting on Friday of the Gregorian calendar, the 21st year of the third millennium, the 21st year of the 21st century, and the 2nd year of the 2020s. 2021 was scheduled to host many major events that were originally scheduled for 2020... read more

Best year of my life! School was good, and with COVID protocols loosening bit by bit, I appreciated normal life more than ever.

The pandemic stuff was not great for some people, but for me, it was a great year. I could stay at my home doing nothing, and that was great.

The best year in the 2020s, in retrospect, was 2021. With Covid restrictions loosening, Euro 2020, and the Tokyo Olympics 2020 finally being held, peace still prevailed in Ukraine. However, Afghanistan fell to the Taliban, Russia flexed its muscles on the Ukraine border, and we lost Prince Philip, Desmond Tutu, and Frederik de Klerk, two anti-apartheid fighters.

2015 2015 (MMXV) was a common year starting on Thursday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2015th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 15th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 6th year of the 2010s decade.

2015 was a great year for me. It was better than 2022. My trypophobia ended in the spring.

I miss all the years before 2020 now. It was a good time. I was 8-9 years old. Good pop culture, better than now. Good music artists, such as Carly Rae Jepsen, Tame Impala, Grimes, Meghan Trainor, and Elle King, released new music.

In a way, it feels uneventful, but at the same time, it feels like the default and most peaceful year of them all. It was the last year before the small problems started in 2016, and now the big problems after 2020. Am I noticing a pattern? Hopefully, 2025 means a comeback to peace, but I feel like it will just be even worse.

The Newcomers

? 2024 2024 (MMXXIV) was a leap year starting on Monday of the Gregorian calendar. It was the 2024th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations. It was the 24th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 5th year of the 2020s decade.

Why is this not in the top 10? It was amazing. The 80s have been coming back recently. I am glad I don't have to deal with the crappy 2010s pop culture anymore. The 2020s will always be better than the 2010s. It is a fact.

It's the best year by far, especially for TikTok dances.

? 2025 2025 (MMXXV) is the current year and is a common year starting on Wednesday of the Gregorian calendar. It is the 2025th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 25th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 6th year of the 2020s decade... read more

Way better than all the years in the 2010s. Pop culture has been improving since 2021. I love how everything now is influenced by the 80s. No more stupid and lame 2010s! #2020sForLife

2025 has been looking great! The 80s are coming back. Thank you, Gen Z celebs! No more 2010s!

The Contenders
2007 2007 (MMVII) was a common year starting on Monday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2007th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 7th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 8th year of the 2000s decade.

2007 and 2008 are the years that I have good memories of. Sometimes I get flashbacks from those years and I almost cry. I spent so much good time with my friends outside. Now they are gone due to drugs, disappearance, moving away, or talking with different people. I hope a time inventor is created and can move us back to the years 2007 and 2008.

So many great video games came out in 2007. Team Fortress 2, Super Mario Galaxy, God of War 2, Manhunt 2, Metroid Prime 3, Halo 3, Mario Party 8, and Modern Warfare were just a few. There was so much more!

The year of the third season of the recent Doctor Who. This was my favorite year because of the companion. I also believe there were no global catastrophes.

2005 2005 was a common year starting on Saturday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2005th year of the Common Era and Anno Domini designations. It was the 6th year of the 2000s decade.

This was the best year in the world. Many good things came out, like Doom 3 for the original Xbox, Quake 4, and King Kong the movie.

The world became an amazing place for once. I was born! And YouTube was created in 2005, so, you know, I actually HAVE a YouTube channel... Random Pete.

I get so emotional when I think of how much I'd love to go back to this year.

1989 1989 (MCMLXXXIX) was a common year starting on Sunday of the Gregorian calendar. It was the 1989th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 989th year of the 2nd millennium, the 89th year of the 20th century, and the 10th and last year of the 1980s decade.

It was a great year. The Berlin Wall fell, giving East Europeans the freedom to travel to Western Europe and vice versa. Pop culture was great, and The Simpsons first aired (and it was at its best).

I wish I was born in 1989.

And for those of you who think that this year sucked just because Taylor Swift was born, grow up. She may have come into the world, but at the time, we did not know she would end up being the terrible pop singer she is today.

This was a very important year, and a lot of good stuff happened.

Why is 1945 all the way down at #56? One of the worst and most deadly wars in history ended that year!

2022 2022 (MMXXII) was a common year starting on Saturday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2022nd year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 22nd year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 3rd year of the 2020s decade.

So far, this year has been WAY better than 2020 and 2021. Usually, at the start of January, something bad always happens at the start of the 2020s. This year took a different turn and actually did good. Go '22!

A very memorable year. So many things happened. If I had the ability to time travel, I'd surely time travel to the year 2022.

Taylor Swift came out with the album Midnights.

2019 2019 (MMXIX) was a common year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar. It was the 2019th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 19th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 10th and last year of the 2010s decade... read more

My second-best year. It was so good. Fantastic video games, a terrible F1 season, but the rest was just that good: music, movies, and TV shows, as well as great vacations that I had.

It was one of those final years of prime life, but there is no denying that it is top two on my list since everything was just so damn good. It is just one of those years you could never forget.

The last good year. Pop culture was good. My relatives had more free time than in 2018.

However, in 2020, things went all the way downhill. In 2021 and 2022, I began experiencing Gen Alpha pop culture. In 2024, it sucks so bad!

1969 1969 (MCMLXIX) was a common year starting on Wednesday of the Gregorian calendar. It was the 1969th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 969th year of the 2nd millennium, the 69th year of the 20th century, and the 10th and last year of the 1960s decade... read more

Don't forget the excitement of watching the build-up to the moon landing with the earlier Apollo missions in 1969. Also, Concorde's first flight, Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Waters, as well as Woodstock. The first microchip and ARPANET were also introduced.

We thought science and technology would solve all our problems back then. And why not, with all this going on? It was also the year Star Trek was first shown on UK TV.

It was a great year to be 11/12, like me, with the future looking so bright.

2009 2009 was a common year starting on Thursday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2009th year of the Common Era and Anno Domini designations. It was the 10th and final year of the 2000s decade.

Best year. WWE was great, especially Jeff Hardy, Japanese manga and anime, X-Play, music, television, and the Nintendo DSi, which helped shape Nintendo consoles. Naruto was just great when people weren't into phones and when people had BlackBerrys with Let It Rock as the popular song.

Good movies, like Inglourious Basterds. This year was the best year for me because so many great things happened! I got my video game console for the first time, and Assassin's Creed II came out.

This was my year. Everything I did was very memorable, and all my sports went well, mainly Federer winning the French Open and Wimbledon.

2002 2002 (MMII) was a common year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2002nd year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 2nd year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 3rd year of the 2000s decade.

It makes me feel good to see 2002 near the top, not just because it was the year I was born in, but also because it seemed like a great year in general. Even though most people were still recovering from 9/11, there were a lot of neat things that happened that year.

Great movies, great TV shows, great video games, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network were at their peak in quality - you name it!

The year I was born! There were also lots of great TV shows out there, great games, great music, and lots of other great stuff! I think this should be number 1. Although, if time travel ever existed, I might go back to 2000 and see what it was like.

2004 2004 was a leap year starting on Thursday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2004th year of the Common Era and Anno Domini designations

This was the best year of my life. I was 9, and the world was my oyster. Sure, I was being systematically oppressed, but it was still fun.

TV was way better than it is today, especially the cartoons. Not just the cartoons, but all of it. Games were way better too.

My favorite game of all time, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, was released this year. A lot of good rap music came out too, like College Dropout, Encore, and Madvillainy.

Half-Life 2 was released this year. Do I need to say more?

2016 2016 (MMXVI) was a leap year starting on Friday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2016th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 16th year of the 3rd millennium, the 16th year of the 21st century, and the 7th year of the 2010s decade.

2016 was the BEST year ever. Sports were great, music was good, and everybody was at peace.

School was pretty good too. At the time, I was five and in kindergarten. It wasn't too hot, and it wasn't too cold - it was just perfect. Everything about that year was immaculate.

A better year than 2023 and 2024. I resonate with the pop culture of 2016 more than now. I liked the music then - the good music and pop culture that I really enjoyed.

I want to go back so badly. I hate 2024, which sucks. I feel the same for all years before 2020. It was better for me and probably everything else.

2020 2020 (MMXX) was a leap year starting on Wednesday of the Gregorian calendar, the 20th year of the third millennium, the 20th year of the 21st century, and the 1st year of the 2020s... read more

This year was crazy! COVID, insomnia was at its peak for me, but I did a lot with family during the pandemic. Bike rides during the day were a blast.

Remote learning from school had its ups and downs. I had great times with my best friend around this time. The number of people who died this year was overwhelming. It made me feel uneasy because there were too many to remember. I'm not saying it's a good thing, I just thought it was crazy.

Video games were my best friend. Building and playing with Legos was pretty epic. I played Minecraft for the first time this year because of the Nether update. I also started doing long runs.

The media, news, and internet were haywire. This decade was the reason for losing 90 percent of "friends" who were not even real.

2006 2006 was a common year starting on Sunday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2006th year based on the Common Era/Anno Domini designations. It is the 6th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 7th year of the 2000s decade.

Great year for rock music, in my opinion, because my favorite album came out that year, One-X, which is from Three Days Grace. It was also the year Evanescence, another one of my favorite bands, released their album The Open Door.

Can't believe it's been 10 years now. It was a great year for me, I still remember the Emo and Myspace times and having awesome friends.

This had the best music ever. Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, Fergie, Usher, and Justin Timberlake. The years following were good too, but they do not compare to 2006. There were no people walking mindlessly around on their phones, and people were generally more respectful from what I know.

2008 2008 was a leap year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2008th year based on the Common Era/Anno Domini designations. It is the 8th year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 9th year of the 2000s decade.

The Dark Knight was released this year. Should I say more?

2023 The year 2023 (MMXXIII) was a common year that started on Sunday of the Gregorian calendar. It was the 2023rd year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations. Additionally, it was the 23rd year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, as well as the 4th year of the 2020s decade.

It was the best year because everything went well for me!

2023 has been perfect so far, and I hope it will stay that way.

1999

1999 was the greatest year in history. I mean, everyone loved that year and is nostalgic for it. That year was part of the golden era, which ranged from 1995 to 2006.

Everything was at its peak: music was so great, some movies and TV shows were excellent, and it was also probably the greatest year ever for sports. If I had a time travel machine, I would absolutely love to live in that year.

The year I was born in and the year the Euro was put into circulation. My soul goes out to Europe, particularly the UK, because of Brexit. Hope they can figure it out. By the way, I'm a South African.
